I wonder if it's possible that the dodgy line is actually a fake?

Has anyone approached Bobco about this?

At least its only £20 and not the usual £100 for 4 spools.

I bought 8 spools from bobco . After reading this i took 4 out and tried a test . All but 1 broke at around 14lb the other snapped at 15. I then dropped all 4 in a bucket of water and left them in for 48 hrs . Retested this morning three snapped at 8lb the other one still at 15. Obviously i wont be using any . Manufacturing error i believe. You do have to wonder why they were selling so cheap . I will contact bobco as they should refund does,nt matter how cheap they are.

It begs the question "Did they know?"

I wouldn't want to be fishing opposite someone casting 3oz leads with this line...and it's not good for fish welfare either. Nobody wants a fish trailing line.

The biggest disappointment of this is my confidence has now been destroyed with the line I have been using for over 20+years ... Gutted!

If the line had been in storage for some time what could've damaged it?
If it were sunlight I'd expect only the top layer to be affected.
So does that just leave that it could have only been stored in conditions that were either too hot or too cold?

It would,nt affect it , its used in water which is warm and cold light and dark . Its in the manufacturing .

I was going to get the new stuff, not a chance now.

I've always rated the technium, I have used the 12lb for many years, I still have a spare spool of the old stuff. I nearly bought some from bobco thankfully I thought it was too cheap and too good an offer to be true. I'm now using Synchro xt in 15lb, and Gardner platinum fluoro, as I bought some 3.5lb rods and thought it best to up the line strength from 12lb to 15lb. Still using the 12lb on my 3lb rods.

All this sounds very odd indeed and I'd like to know what BobCo have to say. I can't see them selling fake, and I can't see them knowing it was a bad batch (if it was) just not good business sense. I suppose there's the fact that they probably sold hundreds of spools and so far only a minority given the sales are showing fault, but like others, I'm not sure I'd take the chance, I'll be using mine as backing.

Makes me also wonder if my initial spool of the new branded stuff was the same back in 2017, or whenever it was, as that stuff was simply horrible, stiff, wirey and pig tailed at the slightest opportunity.

Dont think you will here from bobco, they have went bust and administrators have been called in.
