Not seen it mentioned but theirs a new series of the Rod Race with Matt Hayes/Mick Brown coming out, exclusively to Youtube.
While I'm sure there are a lot of older anglers who remember all the series from the 90's onwards I'm sure there are some younger ones on here who've never even heard of it.
In any case, Matt's put up a trailer sort of thing, showing clips from the past and I assume clips from the future (not watched it yet), 35 minutes of nostalgia and looking forward of things to come. I'm certainly looking forward to it

I was following their fundraising efforts to finance the show so very much looking forward to watching it. Matt along woth John Wilson were the people that initally got me hooked watching their shows. Apparently as they are no longer relevant (quoting what Matt said) they couldn't get the support from the industry which surprised me but then again most companies make their own material now in house so why would they fund these

You and me both, I think industry has made a great mistake there and I think they'll come back to them, hopefully Matt will see the appeal of the wider audience instead of spiting them, but they are right, media platforms are the future...or are they....Whitehouse/Mortimer...hmm
I'm half way through that programme above, that RR music is so evocative, even today it relaxes me

im watching the pre-show documentary of The Rod Race as i type - A proper nostalgia trip. It reminds us of fishing before the days of over the top shouting/chavvy content we get now.

I watched the early release back in spring time and loved every single minute of it - it brought back so many memories. Would love it if they were to go again - they are legends of the sport!

When I heard about this being released I rewatched all the other series, they're great tbh and I think the TV companies have made a real mistake not getting in on this and instead lining hamidi and co's pockets.
I hope it does well so they make more whilst they can.

Good to see these two back on again. Mick Brown has probably forgotten more about pike fishing than some will ever know. He even forgot that you shouldn't stand up holding a very lively, warm water caught pike for the camera haha. And did I see them handling the smaller fish with warm, dry hands ? And releasing an invasive species ( signal crayfish ) back into the water ? Yep, the fishing police are out tonight 😄 But gripes aside, a thoroughly good watch.

I watched the catch up docco last night. Can't believe Matt has been on the telly for over 30 years. I used to love Total Fishing alongside Go fishing and then enjoyed most of his other stuff - until it got a bit too serious.
What I will say though, is that it's great to have two real anglers fishing rather than those two washed up nineties comedians holding onto the last shreds of famedom.
I wonder if Rex and Bushy will make a comeback too soon, I hope so 🙂

I loved that Garmin GPS & electric motor that acted as a anchor. When they said there weren't any fish there and the frontal fish finder showed the same.. doh..lol....why even fish there.
Critique, in the doc Matt said he was glad to be in control of everything. I know this is the 1st episode and I'm sure this has already been commented on, on social media, but some very basic camera work errors, which imo shouldn't be happening. Filming in the shadow of the sun a lot of the time, not ready for fish shots, missing action. It's even less formal than the old laid back format, a good thing..hmm.
Don't get me wrong, I still very much enjoyed it, there's something special about 2 people totally relaxed in each other's company. Did I spot Mick with a can if beer on the boat, if it was it made a swift exit to the rear...probably to wash down the 3 pork pies
