I've used GR60 for ever and never really had an issue with it once it's bedded in.
Thing is I fish a lot less these days and it's not settling on my spools, so every time I go fishing it is wirey and I've had to deal with a few birds nests on the bank which is a royal pain in the ass.
What options are there for a better behaved line that won't turn into a nightmare if it isn't used for a few weeks between trips?
Braided mainline not permitted on the waters I fish.

PB control is very limp. Gains very little memory and easily straightens back. Use 24lb. Its low diameter.

Put a sweat band soaked in warm water over your spools when you pack your gear to leave. Does wonders for nylon.
As Beyonce says wet your line. It's one of the first things I do when I get to the lake (after setting up my net for good luck).
I haven't found a line yet that doesn't go wirey, some are worse than others though.

In 20 odd years, I've never had a birdsnest to deal with on the bank, then two in the last couple of trips which with bad eyes was a real faff to sort.
So sadly it's time for a change.

Have you started using lighter leads? Ive found that causes bother as it doesnt bed in as well on the spool

I haven't mate, always been 2.5oz or a 4oz zip when I I'm feeling a bit Terry Edmunds and wanna cast at a showing fish on the horizon
In the very old days I used to use Krystonite, honestly no idea how that compares to todays 'technology' but I don't think I ever had much trouble with it, so I am wondering if a pure fluro or coated fluro like Krystonite (much cheaper) would play nicer than just chosing another mono unless there was a clear winner

If you can't get on with GR60 you will probably hate fluoro!
If you really want to change (GR60 is a really good line) then I rate Korda Touchdown if I have to use mono.

Fluoro will kick you in the balls the second you arent' looking.
Great line but you have to carry out your admin on it and it definitely carries more memory and birds nest potential vs mono.
I've tried the Thinking Anglers fluoro this season, its better than most but still a PITA when you aren't careful.
I'd go for one of the pre-stretched monos' in a low diameter if you want to avoid the memory. I;ve never had any issue with the Korda Touchdown too

+1 for GTHD. I've been using it pretty much since it came out. I've had no dramas that I can think of at all

What he said , ive used it this year not a long term user but had no issues with it I bought the 15 lb first then upped it to 18 lb and im really pleased with it. 18 lb feels strong as tow rope. very good impressions of it so far.

If you are looking for a line that behaves impeccably on the spool, GTHD is 100% the best that I have seen. It's amazing. As previous poster stated go for the 15lb or 18lb. Admittedly I've not seen some of the others being mentioned here. But in terms of the stuff I have seen or used, GTHD is definitely the best in terms of limpness & behaving impeccably on the spool.
Syncro has always been absolute crap from what I have seen personally. I will never forget me & my mate Jake being on the Thames a decade ago. Him trying to cast 30 yards with a 3oz lead to a wall of a garden opposite where we were fishing to get a clip mark. First ten casts did not land perfect so were reeled in.
Every single time he had to cut the mono and re tie. The line was pig tailing so very badly for a six inch length, exactly where it went through the tip ring on the cast. It was brand new line. I have never seen anything even remotely similar from any mono ever before. It was an absolute joke. The cast was thirty yards maximum, likely more like twenty to twenty five yards. It was a gentle lob with a 3oz lead. This was still enough to make it coil up & pig tail so badly that it was unreal for a very short length. It was definitely being caused by the minimal pressure on the cast, exactly where the line was sitting through the tip ring. There was zero damage to the tip ring.
He pulled it all off instantly & replaced it with 20lb Hydro-Tuff. He still had the same line on three years later.
He said he had previously used Syncro with no problems since its release. But whatever was wrong with that stuff he had on the reels that day, it was horrific. It was not loaded on incorrectly. It behaved normally apart from what is described above. I can only imagine if he had actually landed a fish with that mono, what it would have looked like afterwards.

It's quite a low diameter so the 18 @ 0.39 would probably be ideal for most. It's a very good sinker with minimal stretch which is perfect for me. It's also very difficult to see once submerged which is a nice bonus.
