Just seen on the Socials that long time North west Carp angler Paul Selman has passed away. Used to love his writing's in Carpworld. And his book Carp Reflections is up there's one of my favorite books on Carp fishing ever. Fishing the likes of Darenth Tip lake, Rodney Meadow and Harefield. Always admired these Northern anglers who's desire for big Carp had them travelling many miles south in pursuit.

Very weird that his name has just sprung up on here today...I was watching a recent Korda underwater video earlier today and Adam/Daryll were referring to the Mainline Cell as Cellman (Selman).
He used to be a be part of FishingWarehouse forum in the old days. I had a run in with him as I used to redirect all banned members to his site if they tried logging in here. He wasn't happy. It was childish of me...but no harm was done and like I said to him, his site needed more members

That's terrible news, my condolences to his family.
I remember that forum. Starting out in the late 80's early 90s he used to be in the press a lot back then. My memories getting hazy now but I'm sure he did a stint on Lymm Dam after or around the same time as Bill Cottam, possibly a year or 2 before I gave it a go.

I met Paul in the mid eighties at Rodney Meadows when he was teaching, several long sessions in the summer break were the norm for Paul. He always had a story to tell or discuss tactics whilst fishing. We continued to meet during the 90's due to both our involvement with the Carp Society but we lost contact in the early 2000's. My condolences to his family and friends RIP Paul.

Yes he bought a lake in France. Tell me if I'm wrong but I think his Fishing warehouse Forum was the first of its kind. He was also Editor of the Carp Society Carp Fisher magazine for many years also. The Warrington wallet worshipper as he was also referred to..

Sad news.... one of the few from the NW who was involved in carp fishing media when I started in 1990.

Very sad news indeed. His lakes in France were Etang de Breton, think there were 5 lakes on the site, fished it about 20 years ago, very quiet.

Money.. wasn't to keen on parting woth it apparently. Think Maylin mentioned in one of his books he got caught out buying a round in the Horse and barge once. Ended up tapping someone up to pay for it. Which hurt..

from memory the very first was Craig Banks ubboard forum followed by CarpTalk which got closed down pretty quickly.
always liked Mr Selman - a decent guy who wore his heart on his sleeve & didn't suffer fools gladly & loved a wind up even if he did once cost me a case of beer to calm someone down after he was particularly mischievous.
RIP Paul buddy. Will raise a glass to you over the coming days

Thats sad news crossed paths with paul numerous times on north west waters. I knew he had been in and out of a care home in france for awhile but still a shock. R.I.P Paul
