Looking to get my lad a rod, he's fairly new to fishing so I'm not looking to get him an out and out carp rod. Places I will be taking him will places with a mixed bag, predominantly single figure carp and some lower doubles, but also tench, barbel etc
I'd like to get him used to fishing for a variety of species instead of forcing him down then3 rodnset up overnight sessions which can be daunting.
I was thinking of a twin tip rod so we can do some float fishing, some feeder work etc. I don't want to be spending a lot until his skills improve but also don't want something that will fall apart after a few goes.
Any ideas what I should be looking for up to around £50-60 for a rod that's not to heavy he can't use for smaller species but has enough backbone to use for carp into low doubles 10-12lb max.

I think something with a low test curve, an avon style rod would be spot on. As you said, a twin tip would be a good idea, but I bought a cheap Prologic one for my lad, it was OK but not brilliant. The quiver tip was pretty stiff, and the guides were weird also. Like I say, go for an avon rod.

I did some looking around for a donar rod a while ago, didn't want to spend a fortune and came across the Shakespeare Onmi. It's a cheap rod but has great reviews. The specialist is est 1.5tc and a tackle dealer said he sells a lot to folk fishing nights on commercials, 10lb line straight through. (Maggot downers forum). As you mention cost at £25 it's hard to knock.
£50-100 bracket there's loads but if I were spending that much I'd be on the look out for a Fox Twin Tip 2nd hand. You could also consider a heavy feeder rod or pellet waggler rod, designed for hauling F1s on commercials but still sensitive enough for silvers, rod dependent.
Edit, apologies for being a bit vague re pellet waggles/feeder, I'm well aware of their capabilities but I use Drennan Acolyte which are out of the price range.
The Fox Vario multi feeder is a great rod, they come up on Ebay every now and then.

The Daiwa Black Widow twin tip should be decent quality (I use the Daiwa Nzon twin tip and really like it). £69 on Angling Direct.

What about a John Wilson ,Avon /Quiver ...maybe the travel version..
Can use it float fishing ,quiver tipping all sorts ..Nice rods.
Either second hand ,or the AD versions ..

Would def go Korum for versatility, value and build - really good rods for anyone starting out

There's deffo something in this Vossy,I tried to match my Rovex a whole ago ,but didn't find a nice one....plenty of masterlines around though ..
Tbh...having read the bumph on the Korum all rounders I'd go for them ,they look proper job...!

Definitely look at the Korum range some really good versatile rods at good prices. A nice 1.75lb tc would work nicely for a range of species including modest sized carp

I use a pair of FS Specialist Gold rods for a similar purpose - any Specialist%bar el rod of the 1.25lb-1.75lb t/c would be good I'd imagine, choice dependant on budget.

. . .just 'retrieved' my 11' JW Barbel Travel rod from the loft . . .hasn't been used on hols since 2018 and although stored in a rodbag the eyes appear to have corroded (green verdigris). Started to clean the small single leg guides on one of the upper sections and a couple snapped off in my hands . . . .gutted!

Perfect thanks lads, never had any korum gear before. Are they decent enough? Obviously not expecting them to be amazing but should last a while if taken care of?
