I am looking to buy a set of 2nd hand TXI D secondhand from e-bay or marketplace. there seems to be a few sets about at good prices. my question is there anything in particular i need to check when looking at a secondhand set.

Personally I wouldn't buy any electronic item without seeing it and checking it all worked as it should.

If he buys from ebay hes covered if there not as described and faulty.

Not really mate, make sure all the lights are on check the sensitivity and volumes all work etc. have a look in the back make sure the battery bits ain't rusty and there no damage on the body or the little vibration arm thingy

You need to ask yourself why there are so many for sale.
They are good alarms good battery life.
The best part is the after service which is brilliant.
If you buy new you get a 3 year guarantee which you will need.
During the time I owned a set I had 4 replaced due to faults when it rains
I personally would not buy and certainly wouldn't without a guarantee

Never needed my guarantee, had them nearly 3 years so far so good. My mates had no issues either in over two years. 100% reliable so far, cant ask any better than that. I had issue with my txi pluses in thd rain but the latest d version have been faultless 🤞

Don't automatically assume stuff on ebay is not as described. You are covered by Ebays money back guarantee if the product has been misrepresented.
About 3 years ago I bought a set of Fox NTXR's that were described as new, and I could see from the pictures they were immaculate. They arrived exactly as described and still the best alarms I've ever used. No complaints at all.

389 Fox Microns, 159 Delkim TXi's, 287 Sonik alarms. Actually less Delkims than Sonik or Fox!
I've had Delkim alarms for years, ST's for over 20 years and current TXi's for 6months.
Yes, I've been out in rain, and some of the bleeps in rain are the sensitivity is set so high as rain drops hit the line it sets the alarm off. Occasionally rain is so heavy it makes the alarm bleep continuously.

When you buy secondhand gear you are totally at the mercy of whoever you are buying it from.
When I get home from fishing all my gear is spread out and dried out...then cleaned checked and put away for next time.
However...a good friend of mine wanders home with his wet through gear covered in clart and chucks it all in the shed for next time.
I very rarely if ever have anything that breaks or stops working...however he has things which he then regards as crap breaking and failing all the time.
Is it the gear...or is it him

I've had every set of Delkims over the years except the Heron conversion, I have only just had to return one where the LED had shattered which was either a violent take or me being ham-fisted! I did have a flirtation with ATT's which have been put away for my grandson when he's old enough to come with me, I would say for over thirty years using Delkims spread over several versions and only one trip back to them was pretty good value for money

Thank you all for your reply's. i think i will save up a bit more cash and go for new. with the peace of mind that comes with a decent warranty. i have currently been using the Sonik SKS which do be fair have been very good.

Imagine a lot for sale are due to them being “too complicated” for people and them not being arsed to learn how to work them. Lot of people on here who have never owned them make that same claim.
And as with others, I've had all models of delkim over the last wa years, and not a single fault with any of them. I've also never had a fault with fox either though. But I look after my stuff
