Never having used a gas canister cover before I was wondering whether I'm missing a trick now the colder weather is here . What's everyone's thoughts please.

Keeps the cold air in waste of time really unless you want a green gas bottle rather than grey or blue
Not sure of the heated ones that plug in a power pack though
I'm sure Gerry or someone else posted a link to a usb cup warmer version ages ago

I was given a Camo Fox one for free. Not only will my jetboil not stand up straight I struggle to find it. Took the cover off and found it again.

Waste of money IMO. I bought a Trakker cover so I could put a usb mug warmer inside but the usb plug was getting a bit hot so scrapped that idea. I think that when the gas is flowing it has a cooling effect on the cannister, so the cover only helps to hold the cold in. Mine was cordura, if it got wet it held the water. I've now gone to Go system cannisters, so doesn't fit anyway.

On their own they are a waste of time for the reasons stated BUT if you use one in conjunction with those little teabag style hand warmers they work a treat.
Activate the hand warmer and slip it into the concave space at the bottom of the tin and zip up said cover, keeps the gas flowing for ages.

on there own it makes it WORSE simply because as you will probably have seen in colder weather when you use it frosty ice forms on the bottom of the can when a cover is on it makes this worse
HOWEVER
Simple solution if you take a phone charger power pack ? buy one of these and with the cover on or even no cover at all
your sorted OBVIOUSLY ONLY USE IT WHEN YOU WANT A CUPPA DONT LEAVE IT PLUGGED IN

Lagging anything that gets cold from the inside is obviously not going to work - however I have loads - if I'm gonna sit there blanking the last thing I want is a silver gas tin upsetting my feug Shui.
I've tried the mug heaters and also the usb heat panels you can get off eBay but using power to save power is a bit counterproductive.
Whilst our world Is fishing if there was a decent way then every kebab van, pub heaters would be all over given their usage. If you are doing it to get fuel efficiency then use a jet boil - mine saves me more gas than any cookers I've previously used and I don't now use my Coleman in winter it's that good.

Absolutely not.
Even worse is different gas canister makes are not the same in terms of delivering gas to your stove, EVEN if your stove has a preheater (a copper pipe from gas canister going over the flame to the stove inlet).
Coleman canisters are awful in colder weather, the gas simply does not come out very well.
I did actually compare various brands and rate them with Primus, GoSystem coming out top, and Sunngas I was going to winter test.

I use propane to cook at home as I'm "off the beaten track",
no problem with cold weather works even when there's a hard frost,
only downside is lugging the 4kg bottle to the swim, not so bad with a good barrow.

I have a little parabolic heater, and when one canister starts to ice up and really slow down, I just swap it for one that's been kept a bit warm in my bivvie... when that freezes up, I swap them back..
It does seem to help, as when they get totally iced up - literally nothing comes out

For donkey years now, I have took a small bait bucket with me, I fill it at the start of the session with water out of the pond and when I cook, I just stand the cannister in it and it never freezes up as no matter how cold it is, the water will always be above freezing and when I am not using the tub of water, I keep it inside the bivvy or out in the Sun to keep warm and I never have problems with the cannister freezing up.
And if it is extremely cold and the water freezes up in the bucket whilst in the bivvy, I just empty it and refill it, but, when it gets that bad, the lake is usually freezing up anyway and time to go home.

One plus with the gas canister cover is if you bung the canister in your sleeping bag to warm up (free heat, always available) it doesn't feel cold to the touch against your body/feet like a bare canister does until it warms up.
As a cover outside to warm the can - nope does bugger all useful. ☹️

Now a days i do exactly the same as this... use a usb cup warmer - cost me pennies and works great.
Before they were a thing i just used the reusable handwarmers that you boil. Have two and boil one when you make a brew and then alternate them - they used to be great

Just buy A coleman petrol stove for proper winter carp fishing. Works in the coldest conditions.
