I fish a small very overgrown lake and carry all my gear. Fish go to around mid twenties but average mid doubles. I'm looking for an unhooking mat that I can roll up and attach to the bottom of my rucksack. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Drennaan specialist compact mat , esp quickdraw mat both roll up and have buckle clips on them

Get Army Andy to knock one up to exactly the spec you want.

I like all these compact roll up mats ,right up my street..in fact I have a compact Chub,flat mat,doubles as a bedchair protector on my porter on a longer,barrow needed session..

The only thing that bothers me is the 'unhooking mat 'police'.. you know what I mean,'oh your mats this ,that and t'other.


I never had an issue,just thinking.you can see it coming..out of the box etc,etc..

An over zealous bailiff,despite how experienced,you may or not be..,anyway ,you know what I'm trying to say,or point out..

I like compact,light etc...so not having a turn..!

I use a Fox Camolite mat I think it's called. Lite as a feather rolls up nice and compact and secured with two elastic straps which can be attached to most rucksacks with Carabeanas. Also has a retaining flap which is a bonus.

Thanks for all the replies, some good options. I have actually thought about making one as I have access to and can use an industrial sewing machine through work. I do like the look of the drennan one but I'm not prepared to spend £70 on a bit of nylon covered foam. Korum one looks a good option.

A shout for the Drennan specimen mat. Shop around you'll get one for 40 odd quid. Paid £42 for mine a couple of months back. They're designed to clip on to a ruck sack. The standard Drennan specialist mat (without walls) are around 25 quid. Will also attach to a rucksack.

It doesn't roll-up but I have the Korum transition folding mat, which I find perfect. It folds up very small, is well padded, has sides, and has plenty of options for attaching it to a bag. I actually keep it within my hold-all, rather than externally.

I had one of those,it fitted spot on in my barrow bag,very nice bit of kit it was,...(mine split,had a lot of use)..

Went for the old korum roll up number, should be winging it's way to me this week. Sort of wanted the Drennan one but as it's being used fairly irregularly I thought I'd be a bit frugal (which of course means I'll sit there looking at it wishing I'd just got the one I wanted). Cheers for the ideas.

Will this or the esp quickdraw clip into the speero rucksacks do you reckon?

Its quite expensive but the best compact roll up mat ive owned is the aqua self inflating mat. Good protection and rolls up really compact.
