When we look at stuff we have acquired in our lives,I bet most stuff we own isn't used very much,or in some cases not at all..
So.....apart from basics,line,hooks,bait,and license could you go a year or more without buying the latest 'essential,or fad bit of kit'...?
Obviously if your bivvy ripped,that's different of course..!

All you need to look the part is a fat enough wallet, having a fat photo album doesn't always correlate.

Since rejoining the carp fraternity, I've tried very hard to keep things as minimal as possible and generally I've done a good job - still using contis and rigamarole materials I had from before, same with my bivvy, mat and a net.
I got new reels which I've been super happy with but rods, oh my days it feels like I can't go a week without eyeing up different ones, so I'd have no chance going a whole year!
Amount of money I've spent/lost on rods would probably go well into four figures if I added it all up 🙄🤦♂️

Same as mate,cept for the Swingtip rod ordered before xmas..lol
I'm going to seriously reduce and look at my stuff in general ,not just angling..I find it an interesting subject,I gave a load of stuff to kids where I live,never use it...made me feel good seeing a small gesture impacting nicely..
How many just ,buy ,keep and not use things in fishing?..(each to their own)....or follow fashion for no reason ..I'm trying to be individually constant.

all honestly my set up isnt built of the new fad tackle, shimano veloctiys with 5000ts and ECU alarms.
i cannot see myself changing anytime soon as i honestly dont think i need to. i make my own bait so i honestly do think ill be able to go this year and probably the next 2/3 without buying anything significant. the only thing i would like is a better spod rod, but the amount of times i actually use one i can wait until the fat bloke comes down the chimney in a few years time

ive actually been getting rid of alot of gear now as i only wander about with a rod or two, lay them in the grass whilst stalking.
kept stuff back i need for my yearly trip to France with the lads, apart from that i don't fish anymore.
at one point i had
4 bivves
3 x bedchairs
set of 4 x Hi-S rods in 3.5 TC
set of 4 x Hi-s rods in 3 TC
2 x spod rods
3 x markers rods
12 x big pit type reels
6 x smaller type reels
8 x Delks and x 2 receivers
blah blah
and that's not even mentioning my fly fishing gear
absolutely pathetic amount of kit

Few bits there mate...
Edit I once played pool and snooker to a higher standard,had loads of trophies 🏆, cluttering everywhere up..I got rid of them all,even the LMS ,one I won.. I felt ,lighter,difficult to explain really..

stupid mate, i gave bits n bobs away to youngsters who would benefit from it.
still kept my fly kit as i love a bit of fluff chucking, wandering about, swim to swim with a couple of fly rods a net and a bag.

I do Tenkara stylee that's proper minimal..lol
(Well done giving a few bits away as well)..made this lads day I did other day ,I seen him fishing nearby,very keen ,no gear,just keen,...oi, hey up chap ,want a few bits, hang on,his mother came and thanked me..was only a korum quiver,but made his day....plus his dad ,had fkrdd off recently..
I'm going to try and ,do it for at least this year ..frugal.

I have scaled right back to just the essentials; it helps that I have no interest in night fishing anymore.
It took a while but I feel so much more effective when on the bank and the barrow is as light as a feather.

Definitely can opt out of all the BS. My rods and reels are over 20 years old. I think the older you get the easier it is to see through all the rubbish, and now I buy quality instead of quantity

Barrow,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, small shoulder bag with tupperware box of particle, another if using boil lies. Poleroids on and walk round to find a spot or two to bait sparingly. Back to car add a minimal amou t of end tackle and a few 1 and 2oz leads to bag, grab rod and net which are in folded matt and back to spots. My chosen rod for this style of fishing is a 10ft 2.25tc scope as I can also freeline bread or use a controller on it. Now the weather is warming up I will use a larger shoulder bag for drinking water, a bite to eat and sun cream. Bag or mat serves as rod rest if required, rarely take pictures and don't weigh fish.
