I currently have a very old RT4 V3 which has served me very well for 8 years with no problems at all. Unfortunately some LEDs no longer work and the motors are a bit noisier now and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I experience more significant problems. As a result I am looking for a new baitboat. I have already discarded the new RT7 - seems to be too many problems and having to deal with Germany for any issues is now not as easy a it once was. So the two boats I am interested in are the new Deeper Quest and the Toslon X Boat. Both have positives and negatives. The Quest appears to be very easy to use, nice PVA bags compartment, compact boat, and sonar on your phone. But I am uncertain about how it would behave in rough weather,? The Toslon however is a beast but this makes it sturdy in any conditions. The XR500 looks amazing but there does appear to be some issues. Anybody offer any advice on which of these 2 boats I should go for - anybody owned both? Many thanks.

Not used the Toslon but I have the Deeper Quest and i cannot fault it.
Ive had a quest for quite a while but ive still never used it but going just from customer service, simplicity of use, compact size all the updates when they work and continuously able to update it and all the other things you can get for it now the quest easily wins it for me. The biggest downside to the toslon its huge size so total over kill for 90% of lakes where the quest will cover just about everything other than huge wave swept lakes which hardly anyone fishes.
I sold my quest to a guy who was selling his tolson. The quest was excellent, only sold it because I didn’t use it enough to justify the cost. I can’t comment on the tolson because I never used it but when I picked up his Tolson I was blown away by how heavy it was and that was exactly the reason why he wanted rid of it.

I’ve had the Quest since end of last year and I’m a massive fan. I’ve had no issues with it, and it has really improved my fishing. Highly recommended in my view!
It’s a very well designed and thought through product. It reminds me of an Apple product - it just works. You don’t need to read the manual, it’s intuitive.
If you are fishing for week+ sessions then spare batteries will come in handy, but I’ve yet to see mine get to even 50% after 3 day sessions. Battery life is incredible.
The one accessory I would recommend is a dedicated tablet and the tablet holder. Using my phone was impractical because of the screen size and the fact you’ll lose internet connection whilst connected to the boat. Just a bit inconvenient. I bought a Lenovo IdeaPad tablet for about £150 and it’s ideal. Any tablet will do so long as it has GPS. Be warned that only cellular iPads have GPS whereas most Android tablets have it. Samsung tablets are also quite popular. Don’t go too cheap as it’s likely the screen will be pants and not get bright enough to be used outdoors on a sunny day. Hope this helps.

Great thanks for the advice. Is your Lenovo ideapad the 11inch 128gb version? No issues with using it for distance work? Stupid question but do you have to boost the signal from the tablet ie have an aerial or anything? Cheers.

Have just got a quest which size wise etc is a cut above anything i’ve had before. However there seems to be issues with the remotes. A friend is using my remote for his boat as his has died and looking on facebook it seem fairly common. Issue being deeper don’t have any stock. So not sure how they can have great customer services when they run out of basic things like remotes.
There’s currently a worldwide shortage of semiconductors due to. AI / Data centre boom.which hit memory hard and now has affected pretty much any component.
Which is affecting everyone / thing that uses them.
So not the fault of deeper. You’ve got to understand they don’t manufacture in millions probably thousands so way down the list when it comes to building product.

My advice if using a tablet - don't skimp and get the best you can afford (processing speed / resolution etc) Peeps spend £000s on Sonars etc but nothing on tablets . . .daft

I broadly agree, but once you get into the £150 to £200 range, if it’s a device exclusively for the boat or sonar then it’ll be absolutely sufficient. Resolution is not so important, in fact a lower resolution (or a scaled up higher resolution) will make for an easier to use interface with bigger buttons on a tablet sized screen - and from experience when you’ve got the rod in one hand, that helps a lot. The biggest issue in my view with the budget tablets will be the brightness. They simply don’t get bright enough to use outdoors in direct sunlight without it being a right faff.

Well I've ordered the Deeper tonight. Good deal at tackleUK where I was able to use a discount code which knocked about £100 off so £1750ish in the end. Tablet also on order - thanks for the advice about the Lenovo! Not sure I can part with the old RT4 just yet - it is showing its age - some lights not working, speed has decreased, odd symbols on the battery display and the motors are a bit noisy but it has served me well for 8/9 years and has never caused me any issues. May end up keeping it as a back up.

The lights one side of my RT4 stopped working, CL said it was increased resistance in the wiring due to age, they replaced it as part of a service at the U.K centre.

Nothing is ever straightforward!! Ordered my new deeper quest from TackleUK with a discount code giving me 5% off. It now seems that royal mail have either lost it or their parcel force express 24 service means delivery in 24 days!!! TackleUK said it was stuck at Exeter and should be here by Fri or Sat - it wasn't! So it seems Iike I will be having a discussion with TackleUK in the morning. Should have ordered it from Tackle Tavern or TFT and paid full price and be guaranteed it turning up!

Sorry to hear that mate. Obviously not TackleUK's fault, though when I order expensive things I like to order from the likes of Johnson Ross as they use a grown up service in FedEx. Either way it's on TackleUK to sort it out and I'd be hammering them to make sure that's clearly understood!

Spoke to them this morning and apparently parcel force are returning the boat to TackleUk. No idea why - probably damaged it in transit! So when they have received it they are sending it out via DHL this time. What a complete farce. Like U say - should have ordered from the tackle shops I usually deal with - lesson learnt!

I would have personally insisted on a new one in case of any damage that isn't immediately obvious, e.g., it was dropped and a pin became loose on one of the circuit boards which, for now, is fine but may not be in a few weeks' time.
I would have offered to pay for a new one, and just return the original, for instance. Just for that peace of mind.

Every time I’ve used FedEx through them they have not been great, packaged often arriving a day late.

Well it eventually turned up and no issues so all is good in the end! I am very impressed with it - just out on the bank now for the weekend and I have to say it is better than my old RT4. Just one question around the maps. When I arrived at the lake I had no problem setting way points and using the autopilot - but I cannot see the map of the lake on the left of the screen. On the right I have the depth finder but on the left it shows where I am but not an outline of the lake. Do I have to download each lake map at home before fishing? This particular lake is very small and I cannot seem to find it even when zooming in on the maps? What doe the subscription give you and is it worth it? Cheers.

The behaviour you’re seeing is usually one of these:
* If the lake doesn’t have a preloaded map, the left panel will only show your GPS position and track rather than an outline of the shoreline. Many small or private lakes simply aren’t included in the base map data.
* You don’t normally have to download every lake before you go fishing. If you have an internet connection when you arrive, the app should load available map tiles automatically. If you’ll be fishing somewhere with poor or no signal, downloading the area beforehand is a good idea.
* If the lake isn’t visible even when you zoom right in, it’s likely not included in the mapping provider’s data, especially if it’s a very small commercial / noddy lake or private fishery.
If you can’t see the lake subscription won’t make any difference
