I haven't wet a line now since 2021 - when it was, what turned out to be (ironically?) a session of a lifetime as well, so I don't no what went wrong
Anyway, work (newish job), travel/commute and life got in the way I haven't been out...

most recently nash have stopped making bait, jim shelley has been through 10 bait company's,collaborated with cypography and fell out with cypography.
short rods are all the rage and most manufacturers are now.doing them.
hamidi has left korda and now set up his own company propped up by his very own sugar daddy, hes now releasing all kinds of chinese tat with **** names aswell as an item that hamidi was balling his eyes out over which turned out to be a death rig ...then hamidi went to great measures to try and prove it was safe but then he released a mk2 version because the mk1 was safe !!! but the mk2 version is still unsafe and banned by all but the daftest of fishery owners.
we had hormone gate where a few known anglers were accused of cheating in matches with hormones only available to the vetinary world....this caused all kinds of trouble and law suits were threatened a plenty and retracted accusations were in abundance. then after a prolonged period of meetings and stories being aligned it turns out that the hormones were just infact chopped worms that sent the carp onto a feeding frenzy.
The carp cast has made several come backs, with jamie clossick new business ventures usually being the reason of the carp cast comeback....most main manufacturers now do a podcast.
tackle competitions are all the rage and every man and their dog are trying to get you to buy a25p ticket to be in with a chance of winning all kinds of tackle and even a vans...they're cashing in big time and theres only 1 winner, ill let you work out who that is.
every man and his dog are now tik tok famous, all doing lives and begging for gifts or sucking up to tackle company's to be the next carl and alex...theyre all super cri gy promoting positivity and niceness to each other just to extort gifts off you during their lives.
thw ronnie/spinner rig lives and hasn't blown yet 🤣🤣

Not much mate, still gotta find um and you can still catch on boilies.

Yep that's about the size of it. The whole thing seems to be full of wannabe's who think they're next Terry Hearn, so no real change since 2021. What I'd like to know is Who's Ali's sugar daddy?

You cant carp fish unless....
You are covered in Tattoo's, one has to be a koi carp on your arm or leg.
Have a VW transporter or a Custom Transit. An estate? Go back to the 80's mush!
Are generally rude and obnoxious and possess no courtesy to others.
Take the kitchen sink and cook everything on a cobb inc a cheese toastie.
Occasionally comes out of £1k Trakker bivvy to stand over rods and go C'Mooon or some such sh*t.
Wears sh*t awful crocs and long socks.
Has PB water bucket ready to soak his equally gormless mate.
Knows a few fellas in the trade and sponsored cos you blog or hashtag some guff on your insta page. Hashtag #carpy w*nka

Your not a man if you cant cast 35 wraps and spod the granny out of it. 30k minimum. 20k of worms, maggots and munga.

If it was 2021 then you have t missed much and the bit you did miss was definitely missable.
The covid years where carp fishing became shouty and street. When government furlough money was spent on the latest flash gear, boats, drones and day ticket 50s. Where you not only had to book a lake but book a swim. Where the ‘geez' next door had Stella a plenty and a Chinese arriving at the gate. A time where every fish was left in the net to get it ‘back out in the pond' before retaining the poor blighter while ‘Dave” came round to do the snaps.
The stain of covid is still about, but with every ‘top name set up' available for sale we claw a little bit back, but it will never be the same. Carp fishing was eating itself anyway with the help of instagram - 2020 - 2023 accelerated that.
Strange really as since covid wherever you go ‘oh I/xxxx carp fish' do you use boilies was a daily thing, before covid it was rare to meet everyday people who fished and wanted to shout about it. Every bit of water seems to have been monetised to the max, clubs have 20 year waiting lists - but slowly the bubble is bursting.
If you fished in 2021 - it hasn't got worse - it may even be slightly better - now get out there and show us a photo of your boiling kettle and dew hung grass backdrop

I have been away since at least 2015 and it seems to have changed a hell of a lot!
Was out on a day ticket over the weekend doing a 36 with the old man, had people asking how long we were going to be etc on the Sunday, madness!

Having had a longer sabbatical than the OP, and reading the very good summaries above the main observation for myself would be the sheer number of bait companies there are now!
Tickets do still seem obtainable though and i think the 'closed shop' status reading between the lines is 'closed to idiots / pop-up / instant anglers(just add water)'.
At the lakes, seems anglers are no longer walking the lakes, taking a lot of kit, and setting up in the comfy swims and just staying put; all that might be a little distorted due to lake i'm currently on.

I used think the same and wore them all year round, but wait till you walk around your bivvy too close and a "T headed" tent peg gets caught in a hole in the side of your croc and stops you in your tracks, next thing you know you are flat on your face laid down.
Then when your in a gently sloping downwards peg covered in grass that is wet and slippy, next thing you know you will have slid into the pond as fast as an RNLI lifeboat being launched.
After a few times of them occurences happening, I deemed they are to risky to wear and had visions of tripping up and falling on my rods etc and smashing them or even breaking my wrist or my arm etc.
Some pegs I will still wear them if I have plenty of space to give my bivvy a wide berth or they are stoned covered etc
