Got to the lake Friday morning and barrowed all my stuff round to my swim. Set up camp then put the barrow next to my bivvy with rod bag, bivvy bag etc. on it and the barrow cover to keep stuff hidden.
Saturday afternoon im rummaging around in the bivvy when i heard a loud bang. Ran out of the bivvy to see what was going on, thought someones bait boat had exploded but couldnt see anything.
Sunday morning i wheeled the barrow into position ready to load up and to my horror, the front wheel was fully deflated with a hole of about 10 inches long in the side of it. I searched around to see if i had left it on anything sharp in the ground but there was nothing there. I actually had to load the barrow up and drag it backwards to my car.
Still perplexed as to what happened. The wheel wasnt even fully inflated as i had forgotten to do that. Its also only about 3 years old so not exactly an antique.
Any ideas?

If the tyre was under inflated it would put more stress on the side wall and the constant flexing will weaken it .

Usually keep them well inflated but just forgot to top them up this weekend. Definitely wouldnt say they were seriously under inflated as i didnt have any issues pushing it round to my swim.
I have emailed Carp Porter customer services to see if they have any ideas.

As already been said it sounds like you've weakened the side wall of the tyre,it really doesn't take much to do it.If I don't fit a puncture proof tyre when I get a new barrow I add some tyre sealant from Redwing

Just looked at new tyres and puncture proof is £35 so ill be ordering one of them.

That's a weird one, especially with no sharp objects around and the wheel not even fully inflated. It's possible the tube inside (if it's not solid) got pinched or deteriorated over time. Some cheaper or older wheels do randomly fail like that. If you've been using it regularly with heavy gear, it might've just reached its limit

I have no trouble understanding that a tyre can fail, what I can't understand is why an underinflated tyre would go bang and leave a 10" rip in the side wall. I would've thought the tyre would have to be under a lot of pressure to do that.

I would go with that, my experience of carp porter tires is that they are cheap crap

I had the same experience years ago with a cheap barrow, the tyre was not overinflated, but I made the mistake of leaving it in full sunlight on what turned out to be a hot day. Fortunately the guy in the next swim lent me his barrow to get my gear back to the car. I now fill my tyres to 20psi, when they are rated to 30, and make sure it's in the shade on hot days. Nothing like a painful experience to teach you a lesson.

All that was on it at the time was my rod bag, bivvy bag, bedchair bag and unhooking mat bag so not as if it was loaded up. Would have thought it would have blown fully loaded while i was making my way to the swim.

Tyre wasnt even in direct sunlight either as I have a trakker barrow cover and most of the barrow was covered up. Was only about 18 degrees at the time as well so not majorly hot either.

I've got a mate who breaks everything. I bet he could puncture a puncture proof tyre. Either that or he'd just set fire to it in some Coleman related incident lol

I wouldn't put this down to a manufacturing fault, not only because of the way it has split, but also because of the age of the tyre. I can only imagine that something had penetrated the trye and led to the tyre splitting later down the line.'
Something sharp? You mean like Conan the barbarians sword to leave a ten inch slit?
Age of the tyre? 3/4 years max and used maybe once a month. It's not like i been using it on my car!!
