Anything in particular I should be looking for when buying dry peanuts to prep myself? I'm well aware that peanuts need to be free of any trace of aflatoxin to be safe but I believe all peanuts sold in the uk are now is that correct?

Only want a kg to try so trying to avoid ordering online. Hoping to purchase from a pets at home or mole valley locally if they fit the bill

Peanuts sourced from anywhere will be fine. You might even find small bags in the likes pound land. B&M the Range and the like.

I got 12.5kg from Wilko for £20. Keep them away from the mice though!

I've taken to keeping all my particle in those blue barrels with black clip lok lids. Normally used for chemicals and you can find them second hand regularly. Just make sure whatever was in it is wasn't toxic and wash them out thoroughly. Not even rats can get in to them!

Animal feed storage bins are great for that. The 100l ones are two for £30 delivered. The 120l ones are like £45 for two delivered on fleabay. Fox proof, rodent proof. No chemicals in there previously either.

More than double that.

There are 11 animal feed storage bins in total there, all used for storing base mix ingredients.

3 x 120l, 4 x 110l & 4 x 100l = over 1500l.

Thank you Frank, most definitely 1200 and not 1500+ durrrrr

Note to self.... Don't do random calculations in your head after a long day and write them out on the internet.

There's a lot of hook bait base mix ingredients there in those bins. Some of those bins are now a decade old. Nothing has ever got inside them. The foxes used to try. For an angler wanting to store some sacks of particle, or readymades in a shady place in the garden, they are absolutely perfect.

You store those bins outside?
Irregular temperature and humidity isn't a good manner of storing things/meals...

Anyone, including yourself can very clearly see that those bins are outside.

Humidity and irregular temperature from what exactly? Those storage bins are all in the shade, all day long. They never see the sun. They are sealed, and completely weatherproof.

We make all our base mixes from scratch. I have to do this a few times a month, all year. We turnover ingredients really, really fast. One of those bins is full to the brim with readymade baits for the river. All in 5kg bags. They have been there for five years now, in perfect condition.

I've been using those bins to store my own bait at my old home, and all of SHB base mix ingredients for the last 11 years. If there was ever a hint of 'humidity', stuff would not get stored there. Never hurt either. Proof, is in the pudding.

Someone made a comment. I just helped them with my own experience. That's all.

Those bins are absolutely mustard for storing animal feed outside (what they are actually made for), base mix ingredients.... Including meals. Kept in a shady place, they are so perfect for the job.

No humidity whatsoever.

I live in London and the foxes are built like pit bulls Mark.

That one is sitting on my shed at the end of my garden.

They will not get inside those bins. I have had them try numerous times. Like daily, for a decade. They will have a nibble (handles etc), but they can't get in. Because of my work, it attracts foxes and mice big time. The foxes want the fish meal hook baits, the mice want the S2. Really, really bad. There is stuff that goes into the hook baits that attracts them on a grand scale.

I will create a thread when I get a chance, share how I have managed to completely stop both. It will help anyone who has ever had problems with mice chewing up their gear in a garage or a shed. Totally stop the little mofos, forever.

Never thought i'd be interested in a pest control type thread but as i store more bait in my shed now and not always in the most vigilant way, i'd be interested to read some tips on it

If it helps anyone who has a problem with foxes ripping their black plastic rubbish sacks open, I spray mine with a 50/50 mix of cheap pine Disinfectant and water put in an old trigger type spray bottle. Give them a liberal spray when you put them out and it usually keepe the little b##gers at bay.

I'll make a thread at some point this morning.

After being plagued by foxes, and especially mice (both field & house varieties) for a decade, at two different addresses.... This method has completely stopped both. No sign of a mouse whatsoever since the day this started.

It's been nothing short of amazing for me.

So, the bins have a very good seal.
I've got airtight drums with double lids. These are airtight as well but I store all in a dark and cool space like a garage.

But it seems you've have the proof of the pudding to show your manner of storing is sufficient. Indeed, it al starts with a good airtight drum...
