The original podcast is back on Podcasts, I believe this was the first fishing related cast which I avidly listened to, now there is much better Podcasts out there namely Baitworks and Thibking Tackle I think the boys have lost their touch.

I swear they make a 'comeback' 4 times a year. I will still listen though, it's one of my favorite podcasts still, even though they lost their way the last few years ago.

They seem to start out with good intentions of getting regular content out there. Then seem to fade away eventually disappearing..
To be fare it must be difficult for all these Carp fishing podcasts to put out content that has been done to death many times before.

There is still loads of content for podcasts IMO.
Nash did a different guest every week & it always remained interesting.
Like the Carp Cast guys 0 they have a great outlook & are probably the most relatable to most normal carpers
Latest episode (came out yesterday) was a very hard listen with Jamie's lad in the background.

jamie only re releases the carp cast when he's got something to sell, something to promote or wants something.....reality is he uses it for his own marketing...loves to tell us how much it costs him to keep the podcast running, promises there will be competitions and prixmzes and fish ins with him and Mark...it was good,it's now not good and it's all about cast competitions.

It's like watching itv or one of the other channels with adverts every 15 minutes
I'm sure everyone's used to that by now, don't mean you go and buy everything on the tv.
And the pods are no different

I don't mind either the bait works or Nash podcasts. I used to like Korda before the change of presenter

They just seem to be dying off, Nash and outlaw pro haven't done one in ages. There was quite a few a couple of years back. If anyone knows of any good podcasts let me know, it doesn't have to be carp related as there only seems to be the carp cast, the Korda and bait works ones left making content. I love podcasts and once a month just isn't enough I need more!

Baitworks is prob my fav also.

I said in another thread a while back that they will die a quick death. Nash had the right idea by interviewing some lesser known chaps, and Baitworks diary pieces make them more interesting, however I don't think the platform as a concept will last.
As per usual, carp angling is struggling to maintain content after the boom has occured. You saw it with mags, you'll see it with podcasts.

Really? I see the complete opposite. The Internet killed the Mags off, what do you think will kill the podcasts off? Podcasts seem as popular as ever.

completely agree. I love em
I think the DL numbers are still quite high - it's just that the guys that set the standards have moved on & have been very hard to replace. (Hassan at Nash & Simon at Korda).

Lots of shops died because they did not evolve, and the same goes with magazines. If the internet was truly to blame, Carpology and Total would have died alongside the others. Fact is, they both adapted and amalgamated themselves into the modern scene and picked their niche.
As I've said before, pop into WH Smith and ask yourself why train spotter and twitcher magazines have a larger presence in print compared to fishing magazines, yet what have they got to sell?
Magazines turned into advertorials and many could see through it. Those of us who started carping pre-2010 already new what we liked, so we are the wrong target market. We seem to have found a balance now where Total caters to the flip floppers and weekenders, whereas Carpology is aimed more towards those who like reading about campaigns and enjoying a story.
The thing is, the companies are now killing off YouTube content too. Not naming names, but there were channels I once enjoyed that are now non-existent or heavily product based due to who the anglers owner is.
what do you think will kill the podcasts off?
Repetition and lack of variation. Podcasts in general are booming because of the people they interview. Whereas in angling, Interviewing the same blokes year after year about the same topics will start to feel dated. I'd like more "local heroes" type interviews and diary pieces. Like the Baitworks pod, i'd like forum-esque natters that aren't heavily censored to protect the feelings of a company.

Hassan left?
*checks instagram*
Christ, have they not put out any content for that long?
Nash have done sod all for months, stopped doing the content which truly made them who they were, and for some reason brought in Martin Bowler to do some DnB vids on the 'gram
.
YouTube in general has been very poor the last six months for content.
How many times can you reinvent something or tell the same story?

and ask yourself why train spotter and twitcher magazines have a larger presence in print compared to fishing magazines,
The same reason caravan, canal boat and crossword magazines are still rife and thriving. Because they generally cater to an older audience, and people who are far less likely to be on social media.
I don't believe for a second podcasts will die any time soon. They will go up and down in popularity for sure, but someone will hit on a new format soon that will reignite a lot of the dormant ones, and there will be a huge boom, then they will all rinse that to death untill the cycle starts again.
Youtube in general has taken a hit recently, it's not jist angling. It all stems down to when they introduced Shorts, trying to compete with tiktok. It has completely changed the structure off youtube in a bad way. Youtube didn't differentiate the viewers of shorts and long form videos, which are two completelh different audiences, and its made many chanels take huge hits in viewer numbers. Go take a look on suggested on youtube and scroll through, then click on the subscribed page, they used to be pretty similar, but not anymore.

I listen to the top two and Shaun Attwood ones, brilliant, love a bit of crime and violence
The carp cast was the original and I thought was very good initially, then as usual everyone jumped on the bandwagon, like most things carpy they get thrashed to death sadly

Specifically designed for those with short attention spans.
You notice it more and more with kids channels. People shouting to give kids the feeling that something as dull as painting an apple is THE MOST FREAKING EXCITING THING EVER MAN
Carp Angling in a lot of ways is reflective of society. Zero patience and an I WANT EVERYTHING NOW mentality, whereby if you ain't stimulated by something within 30 seconds you get bored.
Sounds like my sex life to be honest....

shorts are designed to be addictive. lots of short quick films. the longer you are on the site between films, the better as far as YouTube is concerned as they can show more ads.
I do think there is still a big place for podcasts. Talk radio has been around forever & pods aren't too different from that - plus you listen to them whenever you want to.
