I want to get a 2nd set of rods to save me re-rigging my main set up (Torrix TE 12.6) when I fish my other venue that doesn't allow braid etc, I'm thinking of free Spirit CTX as I had some years ago and like a berk sold them, any other recommendations around that price?

Carp scene birmingham are now selling the based on Daiwa powermesh blanks that were made up for future fishing £99 each for the 12ft 3.25lb rods they will do a deal on buying 2 or 3 of them 0121 274 3199

What sort of range will you need to fish at?

TFT have the 12' 3.25 X-Flite for £99.99 each. They were £79.99 last week (I got a set), but they're now giving a Penn Affinity 8000 spod reel with orders over £300 so would still make them a good price.

Dont suppose you know if the 10ft ones still have the silly 50mm guides on do you?

the 9ft ones do so I would imagine they would. tony at ff said they wouldn't sell in the quantities they did if they didn't have 50mm

a little bit more expensive than your budget but take a look at the tackle box CFX range if you get a chance.

absolutely fantastic rods that hold up against anything else around that price point (&quite a lot above it). Closest I have found to original LD Infinities for feel & performance.

What test curve model is like an infinity. Are they as light.

My main rods are 1 12ft 2/34 LD infinity (original) & I had 2 12ft 3.25 tc tackle box rods built to match it. Tackle Box rods are a little stiffer but - Action is very similar progressive with lots of power in butt section. Not noticed much difference in weight.

Right, still haven't got round to buying anything but have narrowed it down to a choice between Free Spirit CTX, Tackle box CF-X and Shimano TX2, which is the best bang for buck of those?

I've had ctx and cfx. CFX crisper and lighter and a better blank imo also got the tackle box guarantee which is worth something 👍

Tried, owned all three.
You won't need a TX2 Tribal in 3.25 tc if you're fishing up to 100 yards.
TX2's are way underrated in TC. Nasty reel seat, guides. Great blank.
CTX are prob overated in TC. Very light, slim, more progressive. Finish? Quality control awful, good luck getting a straight one.
CFX lovely blank, finish, reel seat. You get what you pay for. I've only handled the 2.75 and it's a beauty. Can't comment on the 3.25.
Just bought a Kaizen Green in 4lb TC . Very similar action, power to my 3.25 TX2 Tribal (I think it does need a bit more grunt to compress it) , but better guides, reel seat. Worth checking out in the lower TC for you. For a cheap rod it's great.

I had a CFX Spod rod. Great blank, and very well built.

But I found the handle too short and didn't like the fold-friendly ringing.

I'd suggest looking at them in person before buying as someone else would probably have loved the things that annoyed me.

Lovely rods, I've had a set for years. Mine are the original ones with the green whippings and 40mm butt rings and abbreviated handles.

Gardner Covert Rods, they are like 130 new, ive seen sets on FB market place go for much cheaper.

I picked up a pair nearly 12 months ago and they have been brilliant, nice guides, nice handle, nice really seat. Accurate when casting and has "through play" when playing a fish, not too tipy, not overly soft, just enough power to cast and control a fish without feeling like a broom sitck
