Korda Kontour in 18lb is fine if your not casting it anywhere - sinks well and has decent abrasion resistance . . .PB Products Ghost Dragonfly more manageable and 0.37 in 18lb but a lot more expensive and comes in annoying 400m spools which basically means you need to buy 2x bulk spools to properly fill 3x reels (unless your ok with 130M and a load of backing mono). . .this also makes it even more expensive when compared to Kontour / Fox Illusion etc. . . (3x 200M spools of Kontour/Illusion are the same price as 1x400M spool of Ghost)

Gardner Mirage Platinum is the best I have found. It has good knot strength and is fairly limp for a fluro
Love my xline but it's not good for casting

Xline for me, been using it for 18months after using almost every different type and I find it the best alrounder. I use it in 20lb and find it cast as well as the gardner mirage platinum, the berkley CF in 15lb etc.. but it's slightly thicker and stronger and stands up to more abuse and has definitely landed me more fish whether the others failed on me. Especially the gardner which I found too thin.
I can still cast it 25wraps and it sinks like a brick and it's a load cheaper and comes on bigger spools for the money. You can put 300m on each reel (they are 600m packs) so if doing 3 rods you'll have 300m left (if you buy 2 packs) if you have any issues and it'll cost you less.
Also with 200m with the other lines, if you do have a break off say 50m you can soon get to the point where you have to respool as you don't have enough line and it gets expensive.

To be fair I would agree with this. If you are fishing a very snaggy venue or extreme scenarios then the mirage platinum I recommended may be less effective as you only get one diameter choice which is 0.35mm from memory. I have used it on less snaggy venues and liked how it performed.

X-Line 20lb for me, used it many years ago, very good line, give it a stretch & wipe with a cloth every so often and it performs well.

Again x line still for me. Have recently tried esp synchro alongside it but still prefer the sinking ability of x line

It's possible to cast .37 Xline 100 yards with the right gear.

Admittedly my casting is average but I know its even more average even with 12lb fluro - level line casting with 15lb mono over 100yds is hard enough; why take shark rods just to fling some tow rope; believe it when I see it !?

Not saying it coudn't be done but you would crack off half the time with Frap ups.

No crack offs mate, I actually find it an easy cast , not really loading up
There is a knack to casting fluoro but honestly it casts decent.
I use 3.5tc 12ft rods nothing out the ordinary.
Given it does take a few casts to get it right but it can be done. If I was cas6ing that distance all the time I wouldn't use it.

You might. If you're reasonable at casting and know how to look after flouro then most wouldn't. Can't say I've ever cracked off with 20lb X-Line, it behaves well. Many, myself included, use it as a leader with braid for that very reason.

Evening Gents - piggy backing this post but do the 600m spools of X-line come with 200/400 markers? I like to know this before I blast too much line on a spool and run out!!

have hit a measured 123yards with the 17lb X line in the past (0.33)
there are times where it really behaves well and absolutely flies out.

I find it's down to casting style/technique with Fluoro. Definitely need a decent drop on the line from rod tip to the spigot point with the lead. Personally I find heavier leads work well at pulling the line off the spool 3 to 4oz and ensuring you stop/finish the cast at that 45 degree angle to get the snap back in the rod to generate power. Some people have said to me a loopy cast is better , but I find that worse personally.

I use fluorocarbon the way you suggest and haven't had problems so far. Stands to reason, it's heavier than mono , trying to use a light lead isn't going to give it the traction required to maintain the tension required.
