Looking for a new set of distance sticks as the ones I had got nicked.
Any recommendations?

I quite like the look of the ESP sticks.

Not very good if you have hard ground to push them in as they're quite a thin diameter gets a bit painful on the palm of the hand, I prefer a distance stick with an augur point and tommy bar, nothing fancy and for once reasonably priced from Nash are the spot on marker sticks practically half the price with 12' marker band augur points and tommy bar, granted they haven't got the three short markers but a lead placed on the marker band works for me.

The Korda basix ones are pretty decent and good value. Come with a Tommy bar and the fluorescent tip is nice and visual under a head torch when having to recast at night. Given these are c.£20 and do everything I feel is needed from them I cannot justify in my head spending any more

I concur, I have an addiction to distance sticks I've got the ESP ones Korda, Nash, Cygnet, Gardner,Fox and Custom Angling solutions.

Fox Gardner and ESP are shoved in the junk corner I use the others regularly as I have various two rod and 3 rod set up for different waters and they're kept in the rod bags so I dont have to keep grabbing them from one set-up.

Fox ones are excellent value if your only using them occasionally,I don't use mine all the time only when I move onto lakes from September onwards I'll use them

I've got the original Avid yard sticks and they are OK. The newer version has screw in points which is an improvement, IMO. I added rubber o rings to help stop the wraps sliding on the sticks. If money were no object I would get the korda ones. Isotopes and Tommy bar seem a good idea to me. I like the three movable markers on the Avid ones though.

What is the purpose of the short markers?

They are for marking which rod is at what distance. (if that's' what Ian is talking about?)

I have these



You obviously have to know how many wraps rod 1 is etc.. But it gives you a marker.


Side note, if anyone knows where I can get this Taska bag from, please point me in that direction

I use different coloured golf tees red for left rod white for middle and blue for right hand rod

For spots that are not exactly a full wrap and to mark the correct distance between the sticks?

They don't sell them anymore but I got a set of elite distance sticks they are amazing and so well built, come with a little rope to attach each stick to with little toggles for exact spot marking instead of doing the obvious, they are very thin aswell compared to others so they go into hard ground better

Only downfall was the price they are very expensive compared to others but in my eyes they was worth the money

Fantastic bit of kit, got a set in Pink myself (customised) stand out a treat in the dark.

About £50 if I remember correctly

I've got the Avid Overnighter Yard sticks and for years prior (before distance sticks were formally a thing) I always used short Fox Euro banksticks (12") that did the job almost as well.

Upside to the Avid sticks is the 12' distance cord and the 3x adjustable coloured markers as well as the curved top (for easy line retrieval) and the overall length - hate those silly long sticks - completely unnecessary. Downside is it would be better with an augured point for hard ground etc

I had mine with isotopes and think I paid about £70/£75 for mine but I no they did a couple others at different prices mate, I still use mine now and they are like brand new had them for a few years now aswell

cheap one's so if they get nicked again its not so bad

NGT curved distance sticks..they do the same job and only cost £7/£8!

I have used two pieces of garden cane,chamfered down a bit ,or actual stick,sticks ..

I invested in the NGTs after leaving my bits of speed mop handle somewhere..

I'm cheap, on the rare occasions I use them I just use a pair of spare Solar P1 banksticks, or storm sticks (not storm poles) from my brolly.

Not being funny, but I'm blowed if I'm spending money on something that is not an 'essential'.

I'm lucky in that on most occasions I can walk out my lines to clip them up, and I do prefer to do that.

I use different coloured mini clothes pegs from eBay 👍

Went for the Sonik set in the end.
They are superb to be fair.
