I have to store my (shelf-life) bait indoors, does anyone have a good idea on how to stop the smell from getting about?
Have 20kg to store, and notice the smell seeping from the bags even though they are sealed. I have tried putting the sealed bags into vacuum bags, and for a bit I thought that had fixed it, but after a few days the smell has seeped through them as well and I can smell it again. No idea how scent can get through two bags that are fully sealed, but it has, pretty impressive really!
Thankfully it's DNA Bug which basically just smells of malty chocolate, so not unpleasant, but would still rather stop it.

You could try some air tight sealed plastic containers,I got some from B&M.Just make sure they are the good ones with a really good seal on them

In the dna bag inside an airtight bucket mate should do the trick

One of my best purchases was a professional quality Vacuum Sealer !
initially for prolonging the life of bait and by god does it do that exceptionally well !! It will solve your problem and extend the life of any bait
but also its amazing for food I make up all sorts stews ,currys ,fry ups , ready cooked steaks etc the list is endless and you just need a pan of boiling water chuck the vacuumed bags of food in to heat up without mess

Vacuum sealer won't work as I've already tried vacuum compression packs and the smell comes through still.

not sure what you mean by vacuum compression packs
but TRUST me a proper Vacuum sealer 100% does work I have been using them for years and years I am on my second one I wore out the first one they work by properly removing all the air creating a vacuum
thats why things cant go rotten and the bags used are heavy duty designed to be boiled in boiling water ! not some soppy little thin shyte
and I have stored some very very smelly baits and no smell what so ever

To be honest, even bait in the freezer in the bag, I can smell through the bag.
Shelf life baits, double bagged, I can smell through the plastic. I have to keep them in a cupboard or in a bucket when I top up what I have used the previous trip.
It could be worse, my Monster Crab does stink, hence why they are kept in a sealed bucket

As far as I know the only non permeable bags are nylon evidence bags used for petrol and other explosive liquids and their smell. . They are usually found in forensic supplies. They are expensive but reusable.

For example.
What you are talking about:- Vacuum Storage Bag
What Gerry is talking about:- Vacuum Food Sealer Roll You'd need one of these aswell:- Vacuum Sealer
Storage bags would be no good IMO

That's what i thought he was talking about, i bet your hoover smelt too.
The good thing about the proper vacuum bags is it can change the shapes of your bait if soft enough (I was using shelf life)

Different sure but the material of the bag and the roll is basically the same right, it's just a different mode of sealing the plastic sheeting - heat sealing v a mechanical valve - the issue I'm having is that the scent is coming through the material not the seal.
Sounds as if I need something with solid walls.

And if all else fails maybe some vinegar or coffee in the vicinity to neutralize the smell. Worked for me and too many bottles of flavor in a closet.

As Gerry has stated (in his own unique way
) they are different materials.
I use the clothes ones (mechanical valve and pump) for clothes and the food ones (heat sealing) for my boilies.
I wouldn't use the mechanical valved bags for food and vice versa.

Probably this one built in roll cutter does wet and dry and storage jars etc good specs cheap too
(( there is a newer version cheaper for a reason they took off the roll cutter

What do you like about them? I was just going to buy a couple of different size rolls as assumed they was all the same kinda thing

top quality and really handy size great value for money
and instead of having to make a cut then 2 seals on every bag like you have to do with a roll its just one seal and done if you got 10kg of bait to do the time saving is massive
and its good to have a quick ready made bag as an alternative to the rolls I use both all the time depending on if its grub for freezing then reheating on the bank or whatever

Deliberately sought out sturdy vacuum compression bags that are pretty thick-walled, have done cooking classes with sous-vide using this type of vacuum sealer and the ones I have already are thicker material than that sheeting/bags. Must be 1mm thick or so, and the smell did still come through after a few days at room temperature. Others seem to say that the smell will come through basically anything other than v heavy duty forensic plastics or a solid walled sealed box/bucket.

I like to split a 5kg bag into 8-10 bags
I used to do it in 5 bigger bags but found its much much easier to stack in a freezer or in a box with the smaller bags lovely flattish square packs

Mate I can only tell you I live in a 1 bedroom bungalow with very little space as I got **** loads of stuff I have a cupboard stacked just with bait that I have vacuumed sealed and I dont get any smell from it ?
my machine is a very high quality semi professional one thats sadly not made any more and most things it extends the shelf life by at least 7 times it does distort and squash them a bit on the highest setting but I like that

Got mine last week. Very good indeed and have used for boilies and food storage. I ordered 4 extra rolls as recommended but found that they are quite large so you have to peel off a few layers first so that you can shut the device when a new roll is in place. The rolls are quite wide as well so you have to squish everything down into as much as possible.
Just ordered a box of the bags today as they do seem easier to manage than the rolls.
