I went today, its OK to have a look at things but generally better prices online for the items I looked at.
I stocked up on some terminal tackle bits to try and recoup some of the cost of the ticket.
I wanted a particular rod holdall but the price on the manufacturers stand was over £10 more than the cheapest online... Was generally the theme of the day for me... I could have saved a few quid here and there but if I wanted to return anything or had any issues I imagine it would be a hassle.
I wonder how tackle shops can sell things cheaper than the manufacturer/brand can whilst also offering free postage and post sales customer service.

They have to pay an absolute fortune for the stand. They need to get that money back some how.

Yeah that makes sense but then I saw TFT charging less than several manufacturers who were also there.
I guess the reality is that only the organisers are getting the sweet deal, charging punters and for stalls... And yes, I know this is the way it has always worked but there's less sweetness in the arrangement for anyone else these days.
I think there is some evidence of this in the fact the Stoneleigh event was cancelled due to lack of interest and several exhibitors pulling out at the last minute.
Edit - and if the manufacturers need to take the tackle shops cut plus a little extra on top, then not have to pay any postage or offer any aftersales just to turn a profit then the punter has the least sweet deal of the lot in my opinion.

WELL think about it the makes HAVE TO sell it at the RRP
they cant go undercutting the dealers ? its the dealers that offer the deals
ok very occasionally they do a show deal but the dealers really get upset about it the big one always have bargains if you take your time and haggle I found but people who rush round never find them as a rule

I bought a new bed chair last year at the big one got delivered with faulty legs and had no problem at all with it being replaced. Got tiny discount with it being at the show but wasn't a massive saving
I went today, thought it was a fair bit busier than last year which is a good sign for the industry,
Deal wise, not many grabbed my attention but the usual suspects had similar deals to those online.
Nice to see a few old faces and some special releases at the show which looked pretty decent.

Tackle shops won't bother stocking products that a manufacturer is selling cheaper

Organisers are the only winners .
Astronomical cost of a stand and inflated drinks and sub standard dog food .
Surely people don't go to these anymore 🤔
Do they ?

8,000 through the doors on Sat, so yes people do. Deal wise I thought the show prices available was pretty good, even on some of the premium brands. Decent show in my opinion when compared to previous years. Food was however the usual expensive rubbish.

I go just to check out new products that I'm interested in buying.
Least you can hold, compare and decide in the flesh.

I went today and thought it was ok. Didn't buy much but my main reason for going was to have a look at a few chairs and check out the Global Angling barrow conversions.
There did seem to be a few deals around as it got later, I saw a Nash Titan Hide XL for £175 including mozzie mesh for example which is cheaper than I've seen anywhere on-line.
There didn't seem to be as many people there as previous years either which was good, felt I had rooom to walk round and see anything rather than getting involved in a scrum at some stands.
Busiest stand I saw was one more cast where there was a massive queue of people waiting for a selfie with Ali Hamidi!

Went today for the first time since covid. Definately not the show it was. Seemed a lot less exhibitors than before. Would of been slightly peeved if I had to pay for me Ticket ( kindly bought by a Pal of mine). I never go to these shows with the intention of buying much. ( I did buy a few leads ) I am tempted at times but then I give my head a wobble which brings me round to my senses. I go more to have a look at what's new more than anything. Did manage to have a look at the new Korda Springbow net. Which I must say does look impressive. Again the food is heavily over priced the best part of £40 on three bacon cheese burgers a portion of chips and three cans of fizzy but they weren't short of takers so we are our own worse enemy on that score. My Pals young lad managed to blag a few samples and the odd pot of pop ups of some of the bait companys which made his day so not all bad.

That's exactly the same reason I go, sometimes it's just nice to have a look in person plus it's a decent day out

It's obviously the industry leaders annual opportunity for assessing the consumers gullibility status to further aid potential future capital growth
I would rather go fishing than attend a show.

Its not for me either but where else do you get to see so many different brands and see their stuff in flesh all under one roof .... I kinda get why people may go for that.
The whole one grown adult hero worshipping/stalking/selfie taking with so called "superstar" anglers though is a more of a mystery to me

I like being able to compare gear 'like for like', and very few tackle shops give you the option to be able to do that anymore. Not many have Fox, Nash, Wychwood, Chub, JRC, Daiwa and ESP/Drennan, most have 2 maybe 3 bivvy manufacturers, same in bedchairs, maybe 3 reel or rod brands, etc.

This is the reason that I always go dressed in full camo to the shows. It's much harder for any of the superstars to have a selfie with me if they can't find me.
