Hi lads

I was lucky enough to finally get through and get a spot on the famous Remire Pool, it's a January trip which I know is gonna be hard but just being there is gonna be epic!!

Has anyone actually fished there in winter themselves on here?

I know forewell it's gonna hard but hey I'm gonna be there 😃😃

Any advice, hints, tips ect ect

I went about 20 years ago, in January. It was tough, we blanked but I would go again!

I gather there was the usual chaos today and that WhatsApp callers did considerably better at getting through, for some reason?

Did the last week of the old season in 2018.

We had just had the heavy snow from ‘The Beast From The East' the 2 weeks prior and there was still snow on the ground when I arrived. The rest of the week was mainly heavy rain. It was a proper cold, soggy winter week session.

I fished the shallows at the top of the pool and the last night down the dam end. This was when the run off from the potato fields used to cause the pool to change colour and make fishing difficult. Fished it with vintage cane MKIV's, Mitchell 300's, corn, red maggots and prawns.

Long story short, 7 fish with one being a lovely chestnut linear 👍 It's a lake like any other and they are catchable 👍

I fished it a few times during the winter over a 2 or 3 year period 20 years ago now! A couple of weekend sessions in January and a 5 night trip one February. I always managed to winkle out a few including a couple of 20's. I was also lucky enough to fish it a couple of times during September including a trip which coincided with the 53rd anniversary of Walker's record. Wonderful lake, good times and feel privileged to have fished there. Good luck, make the most of it and enjoy walking in the footsteps of giants...@wandle, Pete the Sweep caught a 22 from the Willow Pitch on the 13th.

I had a 20 Common out of the Willow on the night of the 50th anniversary.

Also had a ghostly experience one winter trip in the evening pitch.

Got a bit of form that Willow Pitch on the 13th September then. Great result and what a memory that must be. Loved fishing the place but not sure I'll ever go back now.

I would agree, been three times over the years the last trip was after the work had been completed and the first two trips spoilt me. I will leave it for others to experience now. I've known Les Bamford f0r 35 years and he's a nice bloke and I know the work had to be done but as I said previous trips outshone the last one.

I love Redmire but I gotta be honest I wouldn't say no to a crack at Gigantica either.

I fished it back in February 1992. There is an atmosphere just reserved for proper fishing, beauty and history.

I'd like to go back.

We had a winter trip in 2021, it was pretty cold and we struggled in the main, but my mate had a lovely 28mirror on the first night out of stumps. There was a thick strip of weed running from the dam end up the middle of the pool. I think the fish were all pugged up in there. If I was doing another winter trip I think solid bags with maggot/caster/crumb poled out to the edge of the weed would be the one.

I fished it during New Year's Eve 2009 if memory serves me .
Woke up to Redmire being frozen over.
Packed up and a long miserable drive back to Norfolk.
Still felt lucky to have the chance to fish there

It's certainly something to look forward to
