I wouldn't have got in if it were otter fenced. All lakes need it unfortunately.
There was one living on bank of the river Arun at amberley for a few years.
I get it's expensive but still can't understand why all lakes ain't otter fenced, surely the cost of the fence would be out weighed by replacing the whole stock!
One lake near me had a otter on it last year, when questioned on Facebook some of the regulars (new ones) and even the owner said due to the weed it's impossible for the otter to catch the carp!
So they said they won't otter fence it, they are nuts there is mid 30s swimming round in there but the owner said there is no need for a otter fence

Not been over for a while, but it's basically a lake in a public park, right? Even if it was fenced....would you trust the general public to do the right thing?!

It is a park lake with numerous issues such as multiple access points, a stream running into it and along one bank into another stream which runs along another bank and leads to the river crouch. It could be done but as already stated the public would probably be the problem. I really feel for the chap Nick who runs it as he has really turned the place around with some half decent fish not to mention all the kids tuition days he runs throughout the summer holidays where he gets people such as Alan Blair etc down all free of charge for the kids with everything supplied and given to them.

There was one in the river itchen last month, not sure how it got in, maybe the flooding aided it, or it crossed a road from the tidal bit to the fresh bit.

Oh no I used to fish that regularly from 2007 to 2013 had a few carp from there and a 22lb pike on a boilie I did hear there was otters there as well so that's not good news,biggest carp I believe was a 26lber which was in carp talk a few years ago an old fish,some knob head put it in mansbridge rezzie and I caught it at 27lb then it got caught again and then got put back in the river.

Seals used to, or even still do, get up the River Yare to the Wensum Norwich city stretches in Norfolk. They have been up as far as New Mills Yard, right the way through the city and out the other side.
Otters have been seen in daylight all the way through the city.

Indeed alot of fish get moved around that area, quite a few from the gpo lake have ended up in the river or other ponds around the area.
I actually saw the seal it didnt head to far up stream, the birdlife certainly wasnt happy about its appearance.
Seen the cormorants take a lot of nice roach these past couple of months. sad to see.

Spot on mate. It's a fish eating mammal and shock horror it will eat fish! Angling needs to be set in the context of the natural world that's part of what we love isn't it?

I just read on the Internet they tranqualised it to re home it but it died under the anaesthetic. Bloody shame it couldn't be re- homed successfully.

The truth of the whole sorry episode was they missed it first shot, hit it second shot then it obviously bolted undewater never to surface again. The group had a diver on hand to rescue it but he couldn't find it unfortunately
