Hi all

Anyone got any contact details for x-line direct?

When it first came out you used to buy direct and could get 1000m spools of line from them instead of the 250 or 600m available now.

Cheers

Ps no I won't use backing and the reducers leave me mid way on spool options

Ps for anyone else's benefit they were not interested in doing any other length spools, not that the guy seemed very interested in anything on the call lol.

Oh well

Certainly one way of reducing your audience if people can't buy the amount of line they need.

Sink like a brick indeed

You could try approaching companies like Seagur and put the questions to them.
Sounds like x-line have given Gardner the exclusive option and are resting on their laurels.
Talking of Gardner, I guess Cash never did get round to marketing that cheese board.

What have Gardner got to do with X-Line? Are you thinking of Tiger Line?

It's x line I wanted as had used it for years since it first came out, recently moved to Berkley cf600 but had some issues with it so was going back to x line. But I won't if I have to buy a 600m spool and have around 200m left over. (I will not use backing)

When it first came out you could ask for 1000m spools, including back when they used to do 3 for 2.

That's uncalled for mate. The guy made a valid point. It saves the reader the hassle of calling Seagur/Gardner to enquire about X-Line. No need to attack him for it.

Seagur produce flouro for other retailers to rebadge and sell on under their own label, I'll stop short of calling them market leaders because I don't know but they're up there.
Their product is world class, if anyone could help, its Seagur.
That other poster on whose behalf you're offended for can and does make sarky comments but guess what, I don't break down about it. Guess it's a generation thing.

Just pointing out that Gardner do Tiger Line and not X-Line. Not sure where the sarcasm is in that, but never mind.

Would like to know your thoughts on comparing CF600 to Xline.
I know you say you had issues with CF600.
I would like comparison of 15lb if possible?
Mainly because I'm unable to get ahold of 15lb cf600. And 200m spools are not enough for me. I could just about live with 3 x 250m spools of say X line for the price if I decide to go back to fluoro. All other manufactures seem to only do 200m.
One thing I notice with Xline on tackle box tests is 20lb breaks at like 11lb, is it really easy to break?
I wish gardner would do 1000m spools of tiger line. Hate only having 200m on a big pit. If a pike cuts you off and you lose 50m you are almost rubbing on the connection knot and already thinking about having to replace, damn pike.

Ignore the TB breaking strains for flouro. They are flawed. I've told Gary Peet this myself. They have always performed the test exactly the same way with every braid, mono & flouro. They do this sensibly to keep the results as comparable as possible between brands.

The problem is specifically for flouro, that the TB test is on a short length of line. Flouro does not react well to shock. A small length that would never be used in an actual fishing situation breaks at far lower than over a length of 20ft or more. It also needs a simple blood knot for maximum strength, which is also not used in the tests.

Flouro is far stronger than mono in reality in a fishing situation, but not in the TB tests.

Matt, I have used CF600 in 15lb and X-Line in 20lb.

I gave the CF600 a go for a change from X-Line as I rate Berkley lines and on a 1200m spool it was decent value. 1st impressions were good, behaved pretty well and obviously sank well. Needed a stretch every now and then but most do.

After about 6 months it went pear shaped. It would snap like cotton when you gave it a pull with your hands. No knots failing, just line snapping under very little tension.

I pulled off about 20m and it was better for a couple of weeks then the same. It was as though the light or water was deteriorating the line.

I took it off and went back to X-Line. For me it behaves better, casts better and most importantly it's much, much tougher.

I'm going to echo Beyonces findings, but my comparison is 15 on both and then 22lb on cf600

Originally I had 15lb cf600 on a different setup, smaller reels and baby ballista rods. Had zero issues with the line.

Then next time I used big pits with i think it was 22lb cf600 and 3and a quarter tc rods and had no issues when using the line for a month solid in France.

The following year the line on the same reels was breaking far too easily, stripped yards off just in case there were some nicks or abrasions but it kept breaking too easily.

This year I went back to xline, had a few concerns on my first few captures thinking I could snap at any time but it held up. I only had one snap and that was when I think I got weeded and kept too much pressure on. It felt great to be back to having confidence in my line.

My thoughts are, one of the supposed benefits of fluoro being it does not deteriorate like mono seems not to work for the cf600. Possibly if you changed it often then it may not be such an issue.

I'm pretty much only fishing abroad these days so maybe a trip or two a year, and the xline has never suffered if used over a couple of years. I only looked away from xline originally because of the silly spool sizes not matching up to what I needed for filling reels.

Thanks both, really interesting to hear, as I was under the impression x line was really garbage but it sounds like it's OK. I had a similar experience with CF600 after going back to the spools that hadn't been used for 6 months. Also a guy on my syndicate had his line snapping on the cast everytime with cf600 after not fishing for a while. He had to strip it all off and put something else on. Very interesting...I have found gardner mirage decent, the line has held up to the job, only issue has bee pike and as I say 200m spools not great.

That would be seriously expensive tho to have to buy 2 z 600m spools at that price if you compare to berkley cf600 price

I have bitten the bullet - I promised you all recently there would be another line review soon and the time has come, I have had to respool my fluoro due to loosing too much of the previous mirage platinum. It was a decent fluoro. Main problem ultimately boilied down to it only being available on 200m spools and not quite being strong enough. Although it is a strong line off the spool, if you get any nicks in it and it gets weakened due to it being quite thin, it doesnt take a lot for it to snap, I also keep getting bitten off by pike where they are attacking the line in the margin and when you only get 200m on a spool, 1 mishap and it quickly needs replacing.
Anyway I have decided to try 20lb Xline and have bought 2 x 600m spools which cost me £59 which is basically half the cost of other fluoros so it will be interesting to see how it compares. At 0.37 I am hoping it will be a bit stronger than the 0.35 mirage. I may even start using a 25 or 30lb fluoro long leader to help protect the end section. The problem I have been having with pike is generally when the rig is out in the water and rod is on the rest and everything settled, I'm sure the pike just swimming through the margins with mouths open get their teeth caught in the line. Rod tips high to keep line out the margin is the best I have come up with.

Just as a follow up, I'm using my xline again that I spooled up with for august and having no issues with it, definitely better lasting than the cf600.

Thought cf600 was brilliant when it first came out but after less than a year it deteriorated rapidly. I've just spooled up my 4000 size reels X2 will fox illusion trans in 0.35 mm 16lb to try ,hopin it behaves on the small spools once it settles .

That's nice stuff, but found it went wirey after a bit, and that was on big reels, been using turbo juice on the flouros, well worth it impeccable line behavior

Might be a bit of a stupid question, does turbo juice affect the sinking attributes of Fluro? I have recently spooled up with it after exclusively using mono for the past 15 years but due to family illness I have only had one session on it (18lb bs) and although I stretched it prior to casting and had a decent fish that tugged back a bit it still cast like a bag of spanners!
