Really enjoyed listening to this while working in the office today, what a wonderful way with words he has and no sniff of a scaly banger, rig mechanics or bait flavour.

Really don't get carp podcasts, come on 3 hours running around in circles about next to nothing, but i enjoyed my first one with steve briggs and i'm sure i will enjoy this one too:P

Will keep this one downloaded for my next long drive, he's just wired different to most which is what makes him interesting for me I will look forward to this one, as yet whilst I was happy with the return of the Korda podcast I've yet to enjoy listening to one I though Rich was a good choice and perhaps it will change pace a little when he gets someone other than a Korda guest in the chair, atm it feels a little too scripted.

Reckon Hassan did a decent job of this, he just asks questions then let's Chris go on one. Then you just drift into his world with him.

Weirdly i actually found Rich awkward to listen to in the Cyp "for the record" interviews. But since he's done the podcasts i find them much easier to listen to. always found simon a bit jarring and he couldn't go for long without mentioning he fished Savay haha!

I pick and choose which podcast to listen to..Some like Shellys are just a waste of air IMO (apologies to JS fans) ...However, Yates' was superb. As others have said Hassan just let him talk and let his use of grammar flow. It was a refreshing change to listen someone speaking properly...none of this 'yoof speak'. He lives and breathes the country...its sights..sounds....smells...just as Jack Hargreaves did . Still amazes me how he gelled with Hutchy....Two anglers but from opposite ends of the spectrum meeting and complementing one another in the middle. Think I need to dig out my copy of Casting at the Sun.......

I'm the same if I don't know the person on the podcast then I don't listen to it but Yates's was great,another one I listened to was I think on the chronicles and it was the guy who held the canal carp record twice once in 60's and then a few years ago with a 47lb fully scaled,he was amazing and he caught that fish at different weights throughout its life and some in different areas of the Kenner and Avon canal it was a fascinating listen.

Yes I agree fella. I used to find him annoying but he is growing on me, especially after this one. I have found that more people are warming to him.

There's something of a contradiction when stories of Redmire during the 70's and 80's are told. The two large fish that Chris referred to again in this interview and he called them The King and The Black Queen. Seen by many and yet uncaught. The 'dreamers' and the Influencers' have all seen them and yet the Scientists deny their existence. Someone with a copy closer to hand may recall the words of Kevin Clifford in his book 'Redmire' when the entire population of carp came to the surface soon after dawn (during the 1976 heatwave) and stayed there all day. All of the known fish could be identified and yet these two biggies remained strangley absent. I believe the Bishop was the King and no other monsters existed, but I appreciate their inclusion was almost compulsory to a writer like CY. Long live the dreamers...

I did have the redmire book and if I recall someone said to get down here quick via a phone call and the comment was I think ‘now I know there's 40's,50's and 60's in redmire' but I could be wrong,also dick walker found a common that was beached in the shallows that some male carp had chased and he weighed her before putting her back and she was 58lb with spawn,also there was 2 chub in there smallest was 5.5lb and biggest estimated at 12lb plus a Gudgeon that was around 12” long and out at 1lb in weight.

Think they were put in as ex live bait as it was originally a trout water,back to the gudgeon I believe dick waker had the gudgeon in his hands at one point they used to feed on the bits of bread and stuff dropped in the edge

Must admit it gets harder to believe the dreamers when you hear stories of 1lb gudgeon and 12lb chubb from a still water rather than a river.
Redmere was certainly a water with huge fish , but the romantic and dreamy stories need to be taken for what they are .
Lets face it , the fish we loose and never catch are always the biggest

I think it was in hutchinsons 1st book a picture of a carp between weed, it looked big, if the korda boys had caught it I'm sure l would have heard a get in, or a come on, ahhh how we have progressed

I've fished redmire once in January 2011 blanked but didn't care as it's a special water to me as I grew up hearing about all these myths and ledgends

I love the dreamers attitude and some come true.
What struck me reading through this thread is I can't recall any other angler with a picture of the bishop. I read the books many years ago but were there many other captures and if so what was time before / after CY?
If they were very few, then it adds a bit more credibility to large uncaught monsters - I really miss those days and hopefully somewhere there is still the odd surprise - or even myth would do.

Hilton had it prior to Yates, Yates caught it at an earlier date,suggesting it looked old and grey pre 1976.

Indeed, a quick google search will show several images. The great fish must have been caught in the region of 10 times or so. IMO the greatest carp ever caught....anywhere.
Untaught myths in Redmire? Maybe in the 50s and 60s, almost certainly in fact. Beyond then I doubt it. Better tackle was available and some more analytical anglers were on the pool, especially during the drought year.

Just listened to the podcast yesterday. Absolutely brilliant. Hassan did an excellent job,, he knows when to be quiet and let the guest talk, yet interjects to keep the podcast on track.

I agree, and I définately would'nt have said so after his first few, I found him very annoying initially!
