Seems to me the new Solar Shelters are really a cut above the rest if your looking for top quality and a compact footprint with a really decent height
they have totally nailed it IMHO the NEW Solar Compact SP Spider Bivvy is a breath of fresh air top quality bit of kit only 8kg too check it out COMPACT LINKY POO
I myself have bought the Solar Undercover brolly system and not used it yet but had it up in the garden and I am over the moon with it BROLLY LINKY POO
a real decent alternative to the hides and tempests
and of course their chairs AND bed chairs are getting rave reviews too

I have the low chair with head rest a man bag unbelievable quality and so comfortable can't see anything else coming close thinking about getting a spider bivvy too

Im after a lightweight brolly and was going to get a fast and light but im a bit unsure of aquas quality these days so will have a look a d see what solar have on offer. If there as good as my sp chair and so bed then there onto a winner. Is there a video of them putting the undercover brolly up? I dont need a front so wonder if they just do a brolly on its own.

I got the solar bed as recommended on here. The cheaper one, it's really cleverly made, legs push and lock in place, ect it's a touch hard but I had a good nights sleep on it last night, defo worth getting

I have the Spider Compact full system and it is a quality piece of kit.
The SP Chair is so comfy too, bought in 2019 when 1st released and still as comfy 2.5yrs later.
Like the look of the new SP Pro Bedchair , Sleeping Bag and now releasing a Sleepsystem version. Their Bedchair Cover is the 1st ive seen that has a foil type backing to retain heat (working on same principles as emergency / rescue services foil blankets)
Very switched on R&D at the minute churning out lots of good gear
I believe even Solar Bait is making a comeback........

Looked at the bivvy, the material is very skinny, definitely not in the same league as Aquatex.

Didn't find aquatex that good rips easy and if put away wet it all sticks together bought an used atom once had to pull it off all stuck together and was left in dozens of creases

Really? Used an original aqua pioneer ultralite for over fifteen years and never ripped it. In fact when I finally sold it on it was still mint.

You must have had bad luck.
I've had Aquatex bivvy's since they came out, they dont rip easy in actual fact yours is the first post I've seen on here that's ever said that.
Probably the best selling bivvy material ever so highly unlikely there's an actual problem, user error?

I think you where lucky loads of Aqua brollys on eBay with repair patches on I don't think for me you can beat nylon like the tempest material

The undercover brolly is ace. Had one for a while now and won't use anything else unless it's for a long session or with my son. Fast to put up, solid in high winds, quality material, can't really think of anything to criticise it for tbh.

I still have one of the first aqua 60" brollies made from aquatex well over 10 years old still excellent a union jack m3 aquatex which is still excellent and a trakker tempest air (aquatex) which i have had no issues with.
The only brolly i did have an issue with was an aqua 60" made from nylon that was ruined after being put away wet the material all came away on the inside which also happened to my first aqua nylon winter skin which then leaked however my original aqua nylon dillo from around 2002 is still going strong, this has been left in a friends garage for years used 3 or 4 times a year on my french trips

well the original Wychwood MHR and the Compact 50" were made of a ripstop material and had a 5 year warrantee they were imo the best brollys around
sadly its replacement the Mk2 is a lottery brolly loads of them leaked and Wychwood stopped the 5 year warrantee but if you got a good one they are great
as far as comparing the Solar Undercover with them Size wise its in between the 2 original Wychwood MHRs Dimensions W264cm x 150cm x 150cm - Weight: 7kg
the material is 10,000 HH and keeping the weight to 7.4kg all inc is a very decent top quality Nylon its certainly not flimsy in the least IMO possibly the best material of this type I have seen
I cant see it ever leaking I like it a lot !!!!
the main points I like is the height 150cm the weight only 7kg inc the size great footprint the bedchair can go right to the back so the 150cn deep is not an issue but a huge plus in tight swims
rear vents complete easy zip off front
to me its perfect

I'm a nylon fan too, but the Aquatexx fans get a bit emotional if you knock it. Lighter weight, tougher, dries quicker, not as dark in daylight and cheaper.

If you are talking about the SP Spider Compact it's not new Gerry. It was launched last April. Looks like Solar have re-launched the same item saying it's ‘NEW' and putting the price up. Almost certain it was under £300 RRP last year.
Check out the date on the YouTube videos. There were also threads on here discussing it.

It's only a bivvy, all is well that ends well.
I actually nearly bought one of these last year to replace my old Tempest Brolly. Went for the 100T in the end but the solar looks decent.

Agree Wayne some are proper gash had many a pram hood bivvy with tensioning poles and more than useless cam locks Avid Tardis was about the worst I came across about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

got one of the bivvys last year and to me it seems like they really have put a thougt into it really easy to put up an seems prettty sturdy to me .way better than the sonik axs that i had before. i only had it out for 4 nights before winter hit us up here in sweden but it seems to be really well made.

Fast and Lights aren't light and no faster than any other brolly.In fact it was bit of a bar steward to take down. Mine fell to bits after 18 months with a 12 month guarantee. Storm sticks are extra and they are held together at the hub by ferrous metal.
Now have a Solar SP brolly that is discontinued, heavily discontinued by Johnson Ross. I only wanted a brolly with a bit of head room , so no infill etc. It is fantastic, been well tested the last week in the winds and rain. If the newer ones are as good or better then recommended.
