This young lass is an incredible breath of fresh air, for the carping fraternity
I´d rather watch all her videos on youtube, than wasting countless hours watching egotistical, so called high profile anglers, full of themselves.

This young lass is going places ... stay real Sophie, and enjoy the ride

I have seen the odd video floating around on social media, obviously she enjoys it, and that all that matters, but I must admit, as a father, posting videos up for randoms online to view is something I wouldnt be prepared to do with my daughter. Horses for courses I suppose

In a way, I tend to agree.

I also have no doubt that she will, or already has been earmarked for financial gain from companies.

It's nice for them to record their fishing

But it's everywhere on Facebook , loads of groups and pages .

It's great the little girl enjoys fishing but it feels a bit like the Dad is using her love of fishing in exchange for some free swivels and a hoody.

Understand exactly what you guys mean, and unfortunately, the good comes with the bad In this day and age, parents tend to "groom" their young`uns, at an early age, to excel at whatever sport they choose to proceed with, be it tennis, golf, footy etc. The outcome isn´t just for fame or financial gain, but that seems to have taken over completely, unfortunately.

True sportsmanship has gone out the window, replaced by 6-7figure contracts I enjoyed watching footy, way back, when the likes of Glenn Hoddle, Ossie Ardilles, Ricky Villa, Keegan etc had the crowd on their feet. Then came the bookies fixed matches, modelling sideshows etc. Money corrupted the sport Young´uns flashing Patek Philippe and Rolex watches, and speeding in Lykan Hypersports, Bentley Mulliner Bacalars, Ferrari Monzas etc, of which some of em can´t even spell properly That´s all left a bad taste in me mouth, and i no longer watch footy as much as i used to ... sad state of affairs.

There´s a fine line, when it comes down to "pimping" your young´un on social media, or documenting your kids progression and love for the sport. Unfortunately, social media decides which group you fit into, once the light shines on you. Nowadays flippin´ influencers are getting paid millions for advertising crap, and high profile carp anglers are getting free hooks and munga

Sofie seems to be enjoying her sport, and if someone decides to "support" her in her future progression, then it´s upto dad to make a wise decision

You can clearly see she absolutely loves it, the dad's supportive, clearly loves fishing too, there's no harm in what they're doing, it's a breath of fresh air, I think pimping the daughter out is a bit strong. They've built a following and they get given free stuff, same as any other free sponsorship.

I think you're being a touch naive about it, once pictures and videos are uploaded, they are essentially online forever. The world is a horrible place and so is social media, probably even worse, with truly horrible people lurking in the depths.
Personally I dont see why the dad just doesn't share the pics and videos with family and friends, I genuinely cant see what the benefit is by sharing it in multiple fishing groups

And she wouldn't get the opportunities that she's had? Off the top of my head, they fish some pretty exclusive waters, she's fished with the England woman's team and gets free stuff, she might even get a bit of pocket money out of it too. It's hardly a chore for her and she loves it.

I can't see how it's any different to any competitive sport and children competing.

How old is she? 8? what opportunities does an 8 year old really need in fishing? And as others have alluded to, why do you think she might get free stuff?? You also cant compare angling with competitive sports, because simply it isnt a competition

If it was just to share and document your child's live of fishing , why spam it to every page and group . There is no harm in it , and other than the early ones where it looked fun as she hung on , now I don't bother to look at link and videos as it looks to "set up" rather than just having a phone handy . Like all free videos , the choice is your 👍

Each to their own, but if any or all of my daughters enjoyed fishing (i have 3 and they dont lol) I'd be more inclined to enjoy the time spent together rather then filming it and plastering it on social media. As already pointed out, some free PVA and a hoody isn't worth it. I'd rather enjoy the special time with my kid without all the social media and 'sponsorship' BS.

I do agree in a way, although I do have pictures of my children fishing. My youngest daughter and son with their first fish, him with big chub and perch and my eldest daughter throwing lures out with a spinning rod and multiplier, her first 20lb carp.

I think that we have the social media culture, everything we do has to go on Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok etc, and that is the norm.
Yes there is the pride, but we have also forgotten personal privacy, everything we do is easily available.

I've met Sophie and her dad and she seems a very pleasant and polite young lady.
Personally I don't like the whole coming up with 'Sophie the carp catching kid' thing and setting out to make her a fishing celebrity. Just doesn't sit well.
Like I say she's a nice kid and dad seemed nice enough to.

Doesn't sit right with me either, nowt wrong with getting kids out fishing, but the social media thing, mmm. Also what happened to starting out fishing for silver, trotting a float etc, and the other thing that concerns me a tad is the pics you see of these young kids holding 20lb plus carp (well any carp really), if it throws a fit fit no way she's keeping hold of it.

Bit of a puppet in my opinion if you want to take your children fishing fantastic and record their experience great but not something i would do to make it public shear it with friends and family on Facebook but that's as far as I would want it to go.

Unfortunately, these are the times of "social media", especially for kids, who need to be thoroughly monitored, otherwise the perv and his deviant neighbour gonna have a ball

Remember the days, way back then, when mum brought out the photo album for the guests Baby pics in me birthday suit Imagine if social media was in, back then

My eldest son now 41 and grandson aged 12 eat sleep and breath fishing/angling, carp, pike, fly, sea, river, canal, you name it they do it. My grandson is pretty damn good but you won't see him on any magic tele, they do it for their own pleasure.

I can't believe some of the views and opinions in this thread!
Sophie is obviously well into her angling and has a fair amount of natural talent for it. Her dad is obviously very proud of her (as he should be) and uses social media to express this. Fair play in my book. Most people use social media to express their lives in some way or another and I take my hat off to the bloke for being a good dad and spending his time making memories with his daughter. Priceless!

Get a life people and stop judging others.

Without having watched it, because it seems a bit creepy. Anyone with young kids will know of Alex & Gabby or Ryan's world, these kids pull in millions each year with their videos; what parent wouldn't want a slice of that action!? The difference is they are doing kids stuff and broadcasting it to kids.
But without seeing it and going by the fact it's predominantly a pastime enjoyed by, to be polite, opinionated dirty old men. I wouldn't want my kids to be watched, judged, spoke about in a derogatory way and have people imply they're being PIMPED. That's the most disgusting term anyone could've chosen. This girl already can and no doubt will read these comments.

Youtube carp angling fame hunters are bad enough, begging for sponsorship from the latest particle baron or PVA punter, but when someone brings their daughter into it, who lets be honest is too young to understand or make her own judgement, it doesn't sit right with me and obviously some others too. Its not that hard to understand surely?

Dear Sophie, if you are or will read these comments, either now or in the near future, please excuse the negativity being spread by pathetic old men, longing for some attention These sorry ol ´ disgruntled men have had abit too much Stella this evening. Instead of spreading negativity, they should spend more quality time on the bank, with their kids

Keep enjoying your favourite pastime with your dad, and cherish those special memories

I don't think it's that aspect anyone is getting wound up about. If it was just to document their adventures then why not just post the vids on their family and friends FB feed? It's spammed across multiple groups, and that clearly is looking for views/sponsorship/monetising the channel.

It's a different world we live in now and there's real money to be made doing this stuff, there's nothing wrong with that but it does make you wonder how many of these young kids with their parents constantly knocking out videos, and the pressure to keep producing new material get fed up with it all eventually.

and the pressure to keep producing new material get fed up with it all eventually.

I think a lot of older anglers go through that as well, especially with angling being such a niche market. You can only film the same water a few times before 'you' and your viewers get fed up with that.

Let's face it, normally only anglers will watch a specialist video or programme with a few exceptions, John Wilson being a rare one, although Mortimer and Whitehouse came close (yes after criticism i made on another thread I did just say that), they did gain non angling viewers.

It is pretty much only fishing that gives away 'freebies', and being a full time angler is not going to give you a living out of it, again with a few exceptions.
Catch a big fish and get free tackle and bait has been going on for years, Anglers Mail, Angling Times, Mainline monthly awards in CarpTalk, or even letter of the month in Carp World.

We do seem to have become dependant on social media and influencers which does not sit right with me; everyone wants their '15minutes of fame' for life, and we are educating our children into the same.

Your whole life on social media, from birth to death on Facebook...

Sophie may or may not have the choice, her father may be pressing her into fishing, as many parents do, every week: "Come on son, tackle him, shoot".
Not every footballing child is going to be the next Harry Kane or Marcus Rashford. Sophie could be in that (fishing) bracket or she may get fed up with it.

well, ive just watched a 40second video and so this is first impressions .. so hearing her Dad shout "Oh sh*t the other rod is going off Soph, sh*t Soph the other rod!!" so not a great start for me and she's already using the dreaded so called carp angler jargon like "banger" etc .... just awful!

edit .... Ok, just watched another video ... and i stand a little corrected .... she is quite infectious and has a great smile .... difficult to not be charmed by her
