I'm looking to get a set of 3 new big pits to go with my Shimano TX2s. I'm not looking to break the bank for them.

I've looked at the Penns but struggling to find 3 under £400. Ideally looking up to £250 for the set.

Any suggestions?

First listing on eBay for Penn affinity reels, mark 3 7000, buy 3 @ £105.64 each. If you can stretch your budget a bit they are incredible for the price. I've had my mark 1 set for probably close to 10 years now and never had them serviced, just the occasional clean and they're still going strong. Alot of good things to be said about them on here I'm sure others will chime in

Have a look at the Okuma T Rex 7000 they have great reviews

I've got some shimano speedmaster 14000 xtc and I really like them. Never had any top of the line reels but these feel way better than any other big pits that I've owned. I payed around £300 for three but that was a while ago so you may be able to find some cheaper now.

If you can stretch your budget, I would go without a doubt for the Penn reel

How do the Okuma 8Ks compare with the Penns? I would love to stretch my budget and may well still do that... but the okuma's I used for Barbel fishing are still going strong after 15 years.

8000 reels tend to be absolute units when it comes to reels, well in the Penn's anyway. Mainly used for fishing off a boat if thats your thing

No I'm looking for something to go with my TX2s 12ft that have the capability to reach 120-130yrds

I think that the 7000 size reels are prob best for what I'm looking for but happy to be convinced otherwise

The 8000 Penn's are huge , but that doesn't mean the okuma are too. The numbering of reels varies from brand to brand. The 7000 Penn's are what you want, you won't get better reels

Maybe keep an eye on Facebook market place or eBay for a 2nd hand set of Daiwa Emblem 45's, my old man just got a set and they're really good for distance he loves them.

Not for £250 for 3 you won't.

Don t overlook Okumas !! 8k s for distance work , or t rex 7000 for general carping ... I have a massive reel collection and i really rate okumas against all of the other brands ..

I've got a set of 3 Emblem 19 45's, mint condition inc 2 gold spools (8 spools in total, only got 2 gold as I only use two rods for Barbel fishing). Would sell them for £320 the set, you're welcome to have a look if you're anywhere near Sheffield.

Crossed wires, I thought it was obvious I was addressing that to the OP, he's the one wanting big pits Just replied to your post as you said you couldn't get a set near £250 and mine would be just over that if the gold spools were sold on.

Okuma 8K, solid reels for the money. Feature heavy and well within your budget. A seriously worthy reel.

I don't think I've heard a bad word about an Okuma reel, they would be my choice at your budget. You'll have money left over for line etc too.

TFT have the OKUMA - 8K FD 5+1BB REEL on sale for £55 each at the moment - should do the trick and meets you budget

Yes I saw those. I'm watching a few things second hand on Ebay etc.

I'm going to try to stretch to the 7000 Penn Affinities. I know that the Okumas will be good value but I've heard too many people recommend the Penns so will keep an eye out for them.

Thanks to a pointer from Bradders I got three Penn 7000 affinity III at a really good price from Parkfield Angling. They were super helpful and generous. Then I opened up the box this morning and they've thrown in 1000m of really good line FOC.

Even though I'm the other end of the country I'll definitely use them again. And highly recommend them to others.
