I want to visit the UK soon, but, when leaving, driving round in a hire car near Gatwick looking to fill up with a flight to catch wouldn't be much fun with queues everywhere.

I live twenty minutes from gatwick. Pease pottage services have nearly had fuel the whole time, I haven't struggled to get fuel, just have to allow an hour.
There's a Facebook page called fuel- West Sussex where people are posting updates as to which stations have fuel.
It should all even itself out soon enough.

Great news, thanks.
I'm surprised it's gone on so long, surely once the folk who used to drive around with a quarter of a tank have filled up and are now going round 3/4 full, the weekly consumption is the same, no?

It's been amusing listening to the goons blaming 'the media' for the shortages and panic buying...

Everywhere I've come across has imposed a £30 limit on fuel, all it is doing is making it seem like a rationing of fuel and also allowing people to keep topping up their tanks. More people on the forecourts again adds fuel to the fire of panic buying.
Every forecourt has an attendant guiding traffic to pumps so they need to either insist on checking the fuel gauge or imposing a minimum of £40/50 to refuel, it will stop all the idiots who only do school and shop runs constantly filling their tanks. Whilst peoples tanks are being run down before they can fill up again, it'll allow the tankers to catch up and get more stations refuelled. At the moment, as soon as somewhere has fuel delivered, everyone flocks there and it's empty within a few hours!

Be sure to avoid south, east and north London as well as Essex. The ****s outnumber the litres of fuel and available road surface. Ideal if you want a fist fight or a dent in your bodywork

I drove from tower bridge road right back to West Sussex before finding a station with fuel yesterday, it was carnage on the way to work, took me three and a half hours because of idiots gridlocking roads anywhere near a forecourt with fuel.

Spent an hour this morning from 5am waiting for £100 of diesel, the bloke in front put a tenner in a BMW... a ****ing tenner

Don't say that Jon, I have to try and fill up tomorrow, otherwise I will not be going angling next week. I was alright last week so have not needed to go near a garage. I need to now though. I was hoping it would be over by now.

This isn't about voting to leave the EU causing it, as scozza rightly said below, we have a country full of lazy ****s.
I specialise in Velux windows, Velux are having supply issues because the warehouse staff were all Eastern European, because of covid they all went home to be with their families and because of brexit can't get back. Now, in the warehouse, despite there being loads of jobs available for £10ph, they can't fill them because the English don't want to do the graft. That is a fact, I'm feeling the supply issues because of it.

Getting a job driving fuel tankers for the companies that supply filling stations was always highly sought after and dead man's shoes to get in. It was very well paid and working conditions and pensions were very good. These supposed supply issues are manufactured to soften the public ready for the price hikes to come.

It's directly out of our pockets, I heard an interview earlier this week where they said this inflation is transitional. Is it ****, printers printing money like it's going out of fashion, supply and demand causing price increases, wages going up.
Real world inflation is well over 10%, forget 4% officially quoted, its only the interest rates flagging behind to avoid absolute chaos but they can't keep kicking the can down the road forever.

Without sounding like a flash ****. These price increases won't affect me, but it will make a difference to the bloke driving lorry's who can now earn a decent wage
We are all happy getting stuff cheap but there's a knock on effect, and now it's payback time literally and rightly so IMO

But that's the point, everyone deserves more so you put wages up but what good is earning more if everything costs more. 10% pay rise to counteract 20% cost increase equals being 10% worse off than you were before.
I hope the cost of things go down but in a capitalist economy that thrives on greed and has survived on exploitation of cheap imported labour for far too long, once those prices are up there, I can't see them tailing off to previous levels.

It hasn't got much attention in the press, but on Thursday the govt brought in a rule stopping EU citizens entering the UK using their EU ID card. They need a passport now. 200 million EU citizens don't have a passport, as you can travel around the EU on an identity card. As well as a kick in the nuts for British tourism - cheap weekend away travellers will just go somewhere else within the EU (in the last couple of days Easyjet have cut more than half of their flights on the route I use .. coincidence maybe?) it will be just another reason for European drivers to stay put.

FFS sake jon its not a B issue there is a shortfall of 120,000 lorry drivers in Poland, Belgium is 5,000 short and i believe its around 400,000 for the whole of the EU. Where have they gone probably to do better paid jobs that don't involve overnight sleeping in cabs and washing in buckets of water or staying in **** hotels and using motorway facilities.
I started work 3 months ago in a larger supermarket warehouse and as a Brit am still in the minority. The vast majority of the workforce is still young eastern europeans. The lazy ****s in this country don't want to work in these jobs because its minimum wage and hard work. Their entitlement of going to Uni to study and the promise of high flying jobs or becoming influencers is still what some aspire to. I walk an average of 8 miles per 8 hour shift and have a rate to work to, its 3pm till 11pm with the option of extra hours doesnt appeal to youngsters who have their social life to live up to. I'm 58 and my generation are fast approaching retirement or like me some have already retired, we grew up and left school where the unemployment rate was 1 in 10 (wasn't there a song about that :0 ) A different attitude is leaving the job market and it is not being filled with the same attitude towards having or needing to work hard!
Why would anyone want to do this job or be a lorry driver with **** conditions. Its Responsibility, Commitments and Pride but that is fast waining from this country as handouts, dole and freebies are an easier choice for many. All this I cant find a job or have the skill set to work is ********. i didn't need a skill set, exam results to do this job just have an attitude to work hard and put myself out there. There are still jobs available in this warehouse but for some reason the locals would rather sit on their arses and whinge about the state of the country!

London hardly has any fuel, it's being a nightmare for my vans, we're having to make sure we've got fuel before heading into town.

My mate went do Devon over the weekend as his aunt has a hotel there and he said that there were no issues with fuel other than they were limiting how much you could take. I think you will be fine but you may have to visit a few different stations to fill up and get home 👍

Not sure where you are mate, but I got a full tank of diesel at Cobham services between junctions 9-10
on the M25 yesterday. No restrictions, only queued for five mins and that's Shell. Access from both sides of M25.
Ten garages around SE London I tried first were all empty.

Anyone also noticed how slow people are driving now too? Around our way used to be a race circuit but now it's full of ‘Sunday drivers'. I find it quite nice as life needs to slow down a little.

I thought I was imagining it when I went on the M20 yesterday, people doing 60-70. Normally it doesn't matter how fast you go there's always someone else that wants to go faster.

Filled up and drove from Kent to Warwick stopped at services by Warwick and put £20 no queues. Spent 6 days holiday with Mrs and then drove back and just put £21 in. No queues at Warwick and no queue down here. Spoke to the the staff at both and Warwick said no problem with fuel and in Kent it has slowed down considerably. Not a panic buyer but always keep car over 3/4 full!
Travelling on motorways there and back and set cruise control at 70 both ways and was almost constantly at this speed passing loads of cars doing less than this and very few passed me. It was almost like a different driving experience, almost enjoyable this won't last long!
Filled up and drove from Kent to Warwick stopped at services by Warwick and put £20 no queues. Spent 6 days holiday with Mrs and then drove back and just put £21 in. No queues at Warwick and no queue down here. Spoke to the the staff at both and Warwick said no problem with fuel and in Kent it has slowed down considerably. Not a panic buyer but always keep car over 3/4 full!
Travelling on motorways there and back and set cruise control at 70 both ways and was almost constantly at this speed passing loads of cars doing less than this and very few passed me. It was almost like a different driving experience, almost enjoyable this won't last long!

Pass petrol garages round here all day. Most empty or a big queue. Got some last Wednesday at 3am.

Don't worry about it, when they bring the untrained Europeans over there won't be as many petrol stations anyway, I'm sure they will blow a few up, OK boss
