Well. Well. Well immmm, fox have made some atrocious reels but then some on par with the much hyped here penn affinity ie fx9 and 11, will these be up to the fx only time will tell.

You mean they are changing to spools that Daiwa have used on their reels for years.I thought Shimano always said line lay makes the biggest difference to distance not the longer spools

I was told by (I don't own a tackle shop) take the piss all you want, that shimarno replace their models every year and the best time to buy them is around March as they move on old stock. As for fox well they always trying to move on old stock

Fox have always churned out pretty bad reels, these wont be any different, even though they do look like carbon copies of many other identical but equally mediocre line gathering devices

It's not quite every year and they do start trying to shift them around March as the newer models used to come out around September time.They used to use the Tackle and Guns show as a release date to show them off

Looks nothing like a Daiwa reel,it's got the same back end as their 12000 mags.Daiwa changed the arse end on the basia,so did they copy Fox more than Fox copied them.

*******s have definitely copied them. I mean, it has a spool, a handle, a bail arm, and a reel body.
I actually think they look quite smart. Was hoping they might be light weight, but they are a similar weight to emblems etc

Meh. It's difficult to tell Fox and Diawa apart these days. I see Fox has snidded Shimano's X Ship logo right where Shimano put there's and Fox have mangled it up to look similar to Diawa's graphics.

Fox were well known for using anglers as field testers. So these will soon be replaced by a Mk2 that may not fall apart after a few months .

Yeah, used a mates one, can't remember the model.
I've learnt my lesson the hard way buying Fox. They only make one thing very well and that's their buzzers and the only kit I'll ever buy with their brand on. I'm sure you and others will disagree with factoids and what have you, don't care, not my problem.

I remember some **** at a local shop trying to sell.me the early fox reels instead of the Shimanos I had ordered. Telling me I was getting much more for the same money. Yeh right.

Tom's latest vlog on his syndicate earlier this year and he was not using these new reels.I guess these have not been fieldtested for the last 2 years

Am sure I've seen Mark Barlett using them a while back on one of his videos and sure Tom Marker was using the at the start of his latest video ( but may need to recheck) but switch to the older ones

With the current supply problems everyone is having, there would be no point promoting a product you couldn't supply with certainty. If they haven't tested samples then they may get a lot of returns. I wish companies felt they could take the time to release a proven product to the market, rather than having to bring out new items every year. There are very few innovators but many copyists out there. Maybe it just takes too long to patent and copyright. Innovation to make it worthwhile.

New shimano reels going to be interesting. Introducing folding handles now, something called cross carbon drag. Which j guess will make them more user friendly in a fight. 45mm spool also.. Expect alot of shimano reels to be on ebay come Wednesday eve. No idea if it's a range or just another new mag coming out , anyone know?

Aarrgghh .The only thing I dislike about my shimano reels is the lack of a folding handle. I like the daiwa handles. However I'm not going to buy a new set of reels just for the handles. Unless!

I dont need any new reels and don't want be tempted just looked and its not as it mentions turning the handle a few turns to fold.I think it's because on some reels you can't fold the handle in as it just flops about

I haven't seen any new Fox tackle in any of the tackle shops I visit in months,
The last set of new gear included a new design water carrier for the explorer barrow....never even seen one of those.
Be lucky to see these reels this side of Xmas I reckon

I don't get this weight thing? A reel either balances or it doesn't. People saying that they cast further due to lighter weight doesn't cut it for me. Isn't a certain well known distance casters favourite reel a Tournament 6000 which weighs 670g?

I've always thought the same. If the reel seat is the point of the fulcrum, then it's surely best to have the rod balanced at that point or slightly butt heavy. Especially considering there will be a lead weight hanging from the top. It must be better for the speed of the cast.

If you like to be mobile and don't use a barrow, then saving 100-200g per reel ads up to quite a difference - particularly if you buy all your gear with weight saving in mind. Easily adds up to trimming several kilos off what you're lugging.

I have to say i have both FX9's (Mk2) and FX11 reels from Fox .... I bought these out of desperation as Shimano's XTB's and XTC's were shockingly bad reels at the time (imo) and so over rated by the fan boys. I have not regretted it since. What is a tad ironic is the Okuma Inc 6000 at half the price of all of them is probably the best of the lot

Problem is with those reels if you get a fault your ****ed basically . At least shimano and daiwa have readily available parts. Now I like to change my reels everynow and then so doesn't bother me if a set only lasts a few seasons. Just get another cheap set. Depends what your after really.
