I've heard it keeps the mozzies away so I've ordered some on amazon. How is it used? Do I need to use a lot of it? Spray it everywhere over my whole body or just spray a little to give me the scent they don't like?

Unfortunately I tried the same a while ago and it had the opposite effect, attracted every mozzie around

You need the original with jajoba and citronella in it,spray it on any exposed skin.It really works well for me and everybody I know who's bought it after trying mine.I put it on about an hour before bed so it has time to soak in,it sprays in a really fine mist so put plenty on a lightly rub in

watch it around the eyes i'm continually having to wipe my eyes as it appears to run and cause itchy eyes. but apart from that it used to be good for me but this year for some reason its not stopping them bought some Incognito to try.
Maybe i should check the dates on it as Mrs brought loads a couple of years ago

They have changed skin so soft the old stuff used to work well
now I find it dont ! but still works superbly on the Scottish midges though

That's all it ever worked on because of the size of the midge compared to a mosquito. Having fished for many years in Scotland and the Lakes, the midge was a constant pain. SSS was always good against the midge (going back to the 90's in my case) - the midge is tiny and cannot cope with the oil on the skin. It effectively suffocates it as the oil can coat the insects body thus stopping the oxygen interchange. They don't breathe through their mouths but through their whole body.
SSS never worked against the mosquito that has long legs and so wades above the oil content that poses such a problem for the midge. I have never used SSS for mozzies cos it never worked.

If you have a good read about mozzy repellents it becomes common advice that effectiveness of repellents changes for each individual. SSS has worked for me pretty well, but so did jungle formula. SSS doesnt dry my skin out and I smell nice which is an added bonus!

SSS has citronella as one of the ingredients - this is what deters the mozzies.
With regards to different effectiveness against different people, I understood it was more to do with peoples reaction to the bites than the effects of the repellent.
Some people have a very mild reaction to Mozzie bites (I'm one of the lucky ones) whereas others come up in great itchy hives (my missus lol)

Yep id agree with that, definitely depends on the individual. I have bad reactions when I get bitten so notice the difference between repellants

SSS does seem to work sometimes on certain people
im sure i read / watched somewhere that mozzies do prefer certain blood group / groups ? .. and if you are sat in a group of people they do know which person they like (blood group ) maybe have a quick taste and then will leave others alone !!

Strikes me that the common theme is the citronella which is well known as a repellent.
Of course some people will still prefer to smell like my nanna so the SSS option is there too

Seems to affect everyone differently, used the SSS years ago and it was fine, also Mosquito Milk when in Sri Lanka / Egypt, it does contain 20% Deet but was very easy to use being a roll-on and effective for us, smelt nice as well.
Just got myself some Incognito because of recommendations on here but this year I've not been wearing any and have had half a dozen bites, my eldest came with me last week and was destroyed, hence the incognito.
If you suffer badly then it might be worth applying 2/3 repellents?

Many many years ago (25yrs ish) it was sold over the counter at cuttle mill ,it worked back then for sure ,we all smelt great and didn't age at all ...what's not to love ,hope it's still the same stuff

Used it for years but always coated my clothes in deet spray. I used just sss last week and sprayed a fair amount on my hands and arms and got bit 5 times. This was daytime and I used and sat near a fire pit. Went this week same spot but used boots jungle cream small amount on hands and arms. Zero bites. Stick with at least some deet. Before someone says this was the orginal dry oil sss. The place is surrounded by swamps and has mozies even in winter.
