After using 12ft rods since the 80s i've been using shorter but softer 1 3/4lb on a runs water over the past two years. After joining a new water my Free Spirit ES rods just feel too long, don't need to cast far and to be fair never had at the small lakes I like.
After much sole searching they are going and to be replaced with 10ft rods. At the moment my choice of replacement is ESP Onyx 3lb 10ft as the action is not too stiff.
Any recommendations for others to look at, not interested in Nash or other tele rods. Rod must have a nice playing action, broom handles are for the beach. Thanks for any replies in advance.

Avid traction pro 10ft 3lber are nice rods bend through lovely and also have full length shrink handle or if you can find somewhere with them in stock the TF gear compact commercial 10ft 2.5lb

I note already mentioned, but the TFG Carp Compact Commercial rod is probably one of the most amazing/enjoyable rods I have ever played fish on. The 10ft comes in 2.5lb test curve and has just the right amount of bend for carp up to 25lb.
I dont normally recommend TFG but they got these spot on.

Have a look at flanx. It's a German brand (relatively new) but their 10ft rods are very parabolic.
Others that could be advised are the avid traction and sportex morion stalkers.

Iv the tracton Pro in 3.5lb 10 footers .
Can lob a lead 100 yards with them and good for under the tip 👍🏼

Google search for tfg compact carp rod carpforum and you will find its been bigged plenty on here.
A wand of a rod, pencil thin, a joy to play fish on, ideal under the tip but will chuck solid bags 60 yards for fun.

A couple of you have mentioned the Avid robs, might have to give them a look.

I recently bought some 10ft Wychwood Extricator Plus rods. Had my first fish on them the other day. Only an upper double, but they were a joy to play the fish on. Nice and light too.

Agree on those TFGs except I would say your being conservative at 25lb.
I'm so glad I bought a spare when supply was suspect, probably never need it but I would hate to damage one and not be able to replace it.

Have you looked at the Sonik Dominators in 10ft
I have the 12 footers and love them I also have the insurgents in 10ft but they are retractable tbh I was sceptical at first but after using them and catching on them I am no converted and they are the ones I use all the time

Tacklebox cf x black edition get my vote I've a set in 3lb tc and their amazing in my opinion lovely to cast with and play fish. Also got the matching utility rod too

I have the Greys Apex 10ft 3.25tc ...great rods and pretty much my go to for 95% of my angling.
The Tackle Box CFX Black are good too, as i have their 10ft Spod/Marker utility rod which is an impressive rod also.

10ft C2 mk2 are better than the 10ft century armalites (2,75lb)- century FBS(3lb)- Nash scopes(3lb), these are all good rods, witch are nice to play fish on, but the C2 tops them.

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has any further more up to date recommendations on 10ft carp rods (non telescopic) . Just sold my insurgents as really didn't like the telescopic

Of extra budget. Been looking at free spirit S-lites any views on these? Or any others currently on the market? Up to around 200 quid is about my limit

Have a look at the free spirit 10ft S range compact rods, l've went from the 12ft es which is a lovely players rods to the 10ft 3lb s range as l didn't want something like a broomstick and found these brilliant for short to medium range.

Thanks for the reply guys, one thing that seems to pop up a fair bit with free spirit is they're quite soft in the tip, I actually cast pretty terribly with anything too floppy in the tip. Any comments on this or any other potential rods to look at ?

Look at the greys gt2s I have 4lb 10 footers cast easy 80 to 90 yards. Had carp to over 40lbs from 200 yards out on them and my mate has had 80lbs cats on them too. Nice and stiff but still forgiving. I am using them with braid atm

Not 10ft I know, but I've never had any hook pulls from my 8ft extractors. Bought for a trip to France, my waters are only up to 10acres and rivers until I need casting range unlikely to go back to longer rods

10' Harrison Aviator 3.25 . . . really nice parabolic action; casts well and bends for bigger fish - so light in the hand paired with balanced reels - a joy to use. 12's are mainly redundant these days . . .

Oops - didn't read the budget bit!
Saying that they're still cheaper per rod vs the 12' variants - a good investment if you want a crisp 10' all rounder!

My thoughts on this are the same. I had a feel of 9 ft 3.5s and they're like broom sticks.

Saw these last week. The 10ft blanks looked superb, only spoilt by 50mm butt rings which looked completely OTT.

yep the blanks are lovely to play fish, only reason they have 50mm on them is tony said they didn't sell without 50mm, I've got 9ft and theure 50 aswell but my god what a rod to play fish on

Prior to my current Aviators I had 3x 10' CTX in 3.25 . . .fantastic little rods but mine had the unfashionable 30mm butt rings that were more than adequate IMO. Still have a matching 10' CTX SPM (with a 40mm br) and use this on both smaller lakes and rivers . . .also now the proud owner of 2x 9' CTX Travel Tamer rods in 2.75; car boot / 4x piece pack down and the same build - used them sea fishing this summer in Croatia (with simple helicopter rigs) and caught some decent bass - they also make good lure rods . . .really nice action
