I hear of some anglers from time to time saying how unreliable Spombs are. I've always found them generally good. Occasionally they sometimes don't open depending how they land during flight. But this session, must have had 40% of casts not open up. It looks like I've not cleaned it properly since last session. What ever liquid I've used (and I'm talking sticky, Snoop Dog sticky) it's almost welded on. Anyone else use anything to remove sticky liquids from their buckets/Spombs? Thinking perhaps WD40 might engage the spring action again.

I've used spombs for years, and put out 100s of KG of particle with them. I've actually only ever owned two, and I only bought the second as I cracked the first.

Does it open properly if you drop it in the edge? The only issue I've ever had with it not opening, is when you very softly hit the clip, and it almost lands on its side. Or when you're casting low into a hole.

If you overload the spomb into the spring chamber with hemp, it will either not open, or open mid flight!

Don't think you'll do any harm soaking it in something over night, maybe some kitchen cleaner?

I have had to stretch the spring before after a lot of use. Wasn't opening religiously after doing this it worked fine.

I've also had issues with mine not opening in the past and for this reason, put it away in the garage. I've got a session coming up where I really want to spomb out some pellet that I would like to use up. I would say 3 out of 10 casts, it doesn't open for me on average. I am not massively experienced with it so it may well be the way I'm casting/hitting the clip that is causing it not to open? I have heard before some people say you can change the latch system on the front which makes it open easier?

Any advice would be massively appreciate

Just replaced a spomb. On the packaging it describes rotating the red button assembly 180 degrees to change the latching strength. Never done it. Might be worth a try.

Yep, this does work. Seems to make the spomb open up a lot easier. It can be a bit fiddly if i remember correctly - there are a couple of lugs holding it in place that you have to release it from in order to rotate it... there's probably a YouTube clip which shows you how to do it.

I found the only way to get it to open every time was to hit the clip high and let it drop vertically. It works but makes a noise like the fat boy at Hiroshima. Sometimes I just use a spod as I can lay it on the water with very little noise.(comparatively almost silent).

Update....Spun my latch round on the bank! Its really tricky to do and made absolutely no difference what so ever

I got some from. Ali Express, the are see through, £1.19 each..
I thought they would be rubbish but they are really good.. :0)
