cleared my van out last week, and by mistake, i slung out my fishing walking boots that were in a bag
i had them for more than 15 years, so gutted
so i'm now looking to get a new pair,
so any recommendations please ?
they obviously need to be comfortable, water proof, and not too heavey,
something simlar to the old caterpillar Alaska walking boots,

Meindl Burma GTX is what I use when fishing - about the only walking boot I've owned that is 100% waterproof, as most that claim to be, simply are not. Comes in half sizes too, so fit is perfect and comfort is exceptional.

I was after some lighter summer boots, got some vivobarefoot tracker ESC, and they are comfy beyond belief, comfier than trainers, lightweight and flexible, I love em.. They are breathable so not mega waterproof and the soft leather needs a dub every now and then which was supplied,
I will probably use them in the winter as well as there is room for thick socks as they are nice and wide... For real wet muddy trecks I will stick to my alt-bergs which are also a good waterproof light ish boot...

Another Meindl fan . . .Meindl Magic 2.0GTX . . .light, breathable, water proof, grippy and comfy . . .price point is high but expect 20yrs + if you look after them

Another for Meindl The Mrs and I bought ours about 16 years ago when we did a lot of walking in the lakes, needless to say mine go fishing. Only point of note, keep them out of the sun at home, the black skirt on my Mrs pair is badly cracked.

I did have some Merrel Moab GTX which I much preferred for summer use as they breath a lot more easily.

Try some summer approach shoes. Goretex in the summer is a silly idea in my mind. If its a ankle support and good grip you want then some approach shoes would be perfect or a pair of mid boots. Only really need goretex in the winter in my mind but each to their own.

Haix cold wet weather boots. Full hide leather with goretex liner.
Get one size up and a wide fitting, unless you've got girlie feet.

All these boots are all well and good, though some are eye wateringly pricey, but being a size 13 I'm really struggling, couldn't t even find any of the army style boots in a 13. My old tf gear welly type bottom with material top boot have given up. Seems as if these are out of fashion now. Really struggling to find something suitable for long grass winter piking.

Miendl sizing reaches to 14UK. I know they are expensive, but as someone else has said, they last a very long time if you look after them. The only walking boots I have owned that keep your feet dry, even if you submerge them in the margins or walk through wet grass, water-logged ground, etc. Just brilliant.

The current army cold wet weather iturri boots go up to a size 13. Also do L size which is the wider fitting. There must be a stockist somewhere that has them.

Altberg go up to 16 i think narrow,normal and wide fittings, im 12 but get a size 13.

Meindl Magic has a Goretex GTX liner . . .the shoes themselves are mesh / leather making them uber breathable - ideal for summer, the goretex means your feet remain dry and waterproof - even when standing in the margins. To be honest I wear these all season until it gets silly wet /cold and then the grub wellies come out . . .

I ended up getting a pair of Northwest Men Hiking Walking Trail Boot
I look up a few reviews and also some comments on a old tread on here,
And nothing but good reviews
So ended up getting a pair size 10
Been wearing them for a week or so
And wearing them for the last couple of days down the pit,
In absolute muddy wet conditions, and so fair they are really holding up,
For the price £49.99 they are really excellent, it is early days,l I know
but no sweat or damp inside the boots
Leather and breathable, so far I really can't fault then
and not heavy at all, there lightweight and very very comfortable
I'll updated in a couple of days if anyone is interested ?

Tim ,does yours have the raised ,waterproof logo bar on them,Northwest territory..if so I am my second pair in four years..

They say just wipe them over with a damp cloth,but I found it best to use a wax boot polish ,this brings them up smart..I use mine everyday to walk my dog,and ,as you say they really are comfy,much ,much nicer than my Brashers,which leaked and the grip on the sole used to slide on the slate ,gravel paths easily..

You'll be happy with your new boots ,a small tip,everytime you use them regardless of weather,stuff two pages of newspaper into each boot,they will last longer,because where the boot creases when you walk,and gets wet,the stuffed newspaper eliminates that issue, I do it on all my footage,including etnies trainers...

Hi mate
Yes they do, and last night when I took them off to get in the sleeping bag
they were dry as a bone inside
and that's after being worn all day, and in and out of thick mud and water,
Like I said, early days, but really impressed so far
And just so comfortable
