I've been using the Nash R3 alarms since they first come out,
I absolutely love them, however they miss and absolute key feature.......
Drop back Differentiation!
This feature is absolutely priceless if you fish places where your rods might be out of view, all you need to do is count the different tones in each direction to know what's going on at the rod. So here lies the problem I have a set of alarms that doesn't have this feature and as such that's causing me a problem.
Now the question is what new alarms have this and are are robust as the R3? I actually can't believe this feature doesn't exist on them, it seems like such a simple thing to program surely?

Fox RX+ have it so do the new Fox mini micron x models with the receiver also the JRC CX have it as well

Think I'd even go as far to say most half decent alarms have this function. I have some Prologic SMX's which have it, my lad has some old Fox N alarms which have it. Depends how much you want to spend I guess, but you should get a bit back if you sell your old Nash ones.

I've never quite got the need for different tones for runs and drop backs. If my alarm sounds I want to be on the rods, doesn't matter if it's a run or drop back. Not having a go at anyone who thinks they need it but I genuinely don't see the need.

The first alarm with the dropback function that I had was the Fox Sx. late 90s I think.
I have flirted with others since ,Delks and Nevilles eg. but have always returned to Fox as the dropback is such an important function. I don't understand why others don't have it.

Got to agree with this as well. Ive had fox alarms with it and always thought a different tone for drop backs was pointless.

Fox SX were my first proper alarms, they had the drop back tone. Have since changed to alarms that didn't require a ring main to the Bivvy if you didn't want the whole lake to know if you had a bite and never missed it. If something happens the alarm makes a noise, look at the bobbin, doesn't need to play me a different tune depending if it's coming or going.
3am in the middle of winter and you get two bleeps. If the two bleeps tell you your bobbin has lifted a little and settled back down then personally I won't be jumping out of bed. If you eyesight is good enough to tell you then fair enough but my eyesight is not that good.
Maybe you're the type that gets up everytime you hear a bleep, I'm not.
It's probably one of those things that if you've never had it, you'll probably not miss it, although it seems some have had it but don't miss it.

I'm with you, I don't always have the Luxury of being able to see the bobbin without having to put waders on and walk out into the lake. Like am I really goi my to do that several times a night or every time there is a liner? No I'm not. It's definitely not a gimmic, I guess some people just don't need to use it, until the day they do need to, and some may not ever be in that situation

Yep 100% with on this, the amount of times I've done socials with mates, having a cuppa and they get a few bleeps, leg it to their rods or come bowling out the bivvy at night and see the bobbin in the same place. Total opposite if you have the drop back tone, I only jump on the rods if I get a constant tone of one or the other. Makes life so much more relaxing lol. And being as I will never fish into or next to snags I don't need to sit on my rods either.

Your bobbin can't let you know if you can't see your rods.
I'm surprised at the number of people commenting who don't seem to want to know if they got a liner or a bite in the middle of the night.

Apart from popping next door for a tea I can't think of a situation where I couldn't see my rods or bobbins, I wouldn't want to not be able to see them.

Drop back differentiation is def useful at night when you're tucked up in your bag / half asleep . . .also when your fishing split rods / a sly in a bush away from the main rods etc and you can't always see what your indicators are doing . . .

This 100% completely agree. If your constantly looking at your bobbins then fine. But when you are sleep or have a rod where the bobbin isn't in view then I want a different tone.
Having used most alarms I wouldn't use one now without this feature.

Not needed 100% there are other ways to detect a dropback but belive me it's handy that you can hear from distance/in your bivvy if you have a dropback or a run.

No its not at all,it tells you more of what is going on out in the lake.If you get 5 bleeps on an alarm without it then it is just 5 bleeps,you don't know what has happened.If I get 5 bleeps and 3 are forward and two are back I know my lead has been moved away from me if I get 3 bleeps back and two forward I know my lead has moved towards me.This shows I have been done and potentially I'm not on the spot anymore.Its a very useful feature to have and all these people saying I watch my bobbins,dont make me laugh.Nobody sits and watches and sees what their bobbin is doing 100% of the time

Or maybe some people don't look and just assume they know by the different beeps? If people want to rely on them, good luck to them, but they definitely aren't necessary
