I like these little creatures, when it's a hot day,you can sometimes see one or two in the bases of local stone hedges..

One day,I found one on the pavement, and I was with my daughter who picked it up,only for her to shout out as the tail detached itself as a self defence mechanism..

I find them fascinating little creatures..

We get a lot of adders as well,Josh,my sons mate got bitten,and rushing home on the cliffs ,broke his ankle,which turned into a coastguard job,..

Never seen one mate, don't believe they are common around me? Seen them on countryfile though, believe they are common down the south west?

There is a water near me that is popular with walkers, there seems to have been an explosion in adders, never used to hear of them and over the last couple of years I have heard of a few dogs been bitten by them. God knows where they came from?

I know,...its not the first time I've people have said about I bet ,should've seen my daughters face,one part of the slow worm in her hand,the other on the floor,wonder if the tail bit grows back,I dont know..?

Ha,just remembered this,back in the day..nr Clovelly,me and my fishing bud stopped off at Hartland forest, looking for this lake on a site..

So we find this lake,it looks nice,and matey is packing down his kyham carp tent,remember them?..and so as he packed the kyham away,we all screamed like girls,cos under the ground sheet was a big adder,.and he'd been sleeping on it

Would t fancy that myself! Sounds like a perfect place for them to hide though!

Never seen a live adder either mate. Only ever seen one in a Jar of alcohol on the Isle of Islay in a museum, and that's close enough for me, not that big really I believe?

I can only think the ones around me have been released, never heard of any prior to the recent dog bites

One of my mates went fishing down Cambridge once and had a run in with quite a large grass snake, **** himself

Snakes, eels, not my cup of tea at all

Both adders and slow worms galore up here, got a photo af adders if someone can put it up ?

I bet it's beautiful up there...is there much course fishing,and are the small streams Tenkara suited?

Slow worms are awesome. My Mrs is an ecological consultant and she took me on a reptile survey checking all the refugia down in the Surrey heathlands. Saw the lot; slow worms, adders, grass snakes, and was incredibly lucky to see no less than 4 smooth snakes. A really good day out.

I've seen a slow worm with a partially grown tail so presumably yes.

Most I've seen here in a day was 5 when I was removing ground cover in my veg garden before planting.
Also seen one a couple of times on my lawn next to my hedge. Unfortunately a new neighbour has a couple of cats which have decimated the wildlife here so sighting are rarer now.

Also we have a few grass snakes here that hunt frogs, toads and newts in one of my ponds. It's amazing to see a grass snake eating what looked like a full grown toad, took almost an hour to swallow it.

Forgot the way , its been shut that ****ing long !! They just basked in the sun all through the first lockdown on the path , amazing creatures although not a fan of snakes .

Good pics there...yep,seen a few like this,never two though..

Me and Wife went for a walk last year up to this old engine house,there's a deep pool which had some nice perch,but it was cordoned off now..

On the way down the overgrown path,there was brambles,heather and low scrub trees,..half way down wife calls out,ouch..!!,

Something bit the back of her leg..

Further observations revealed two prominent bite mark's,it went very red and itchy,and quite inflamed,eventually...lol,she said,I've had enough,squeeze it..

Which I did,and out popped two fangs,not snake or anything like that,but obviously from a insect,we did loads of research,but have no idea what bit her..

See adders and slow worms regularly in control panels and air boxes that house compressors, have seen air boxes with several skins that the slow worms shed.

I shouldn't worry, even if they did get served, you'd probably be able to outrun them when they're pissed
