Hi guys
Off fishing tomorrow on a lake near me for few hours,need to get out work 50 hour plus a week so need something to look forward to.
Anyone else still get the excitement of getting ready to go,I've got it all planned and taking my deeper too just to have a flick around in the areas I'm not fishing while rods are out only going for 4/5 hours but really looking forward to it.

The day i dont get excited prior to fishing is when ill stop going....when i go fishing its the only time i dont need an alarm clock as I'm awake will before i need to be

I have always said at least half the enjoyment of a trip is the planning, strategising and anticipation of the jaunt. Along with the discussion with friends about ifs ands buts and maybes. Second guessing the lake conditions, tactics and approach. And the competition against self expectations and buddies with a bit of a side bet.

Every single trip. Hardly sleep the night before. Head can't help but think of tactics, what could happen, what did happen last trip, etc etc.
I'm clearly not your average carp angler who catches a 20 every trip or catches a 30, a 40 and a 50 every season hence the excitement for every trip. Tbh, none of the lakes I fish have a 50 to go at but that's beside the point.

Yeah, look forward to every single trip, usually can't sleep the night before thinking about strategies, swims, etc. I've always looked forward to going fishing, even when I started out going with my old man 40+ years ago.

Due to go on a day session Friday at 06.00 was still awake 02.00 Friday morning just could not sleep due to the anticipation of actually getting out again.

Going fishing gives me a few days off from thinking about going fishing and I've only been doing it for 60 years.

I wind up for about three days for a session
Start sorting all the gear out days before and the buzz builds from there
Still haven't done a session this year will be changing that this week so im on the buzz now

Waiting a bit longer and fancied trying the lake,I've got 5 days on the canal for spring so that's all been planned right now,after one of the 30lb plus mirrors that are in there,town Center area too dodgy even though I've seen a few big ones up that way plus biggest I had out of town stretch alone was 26.9

My father is 90 this year and I asked him last night if he wanted to fish on Thursday. I went round to do mums pills this afternoon and dad has his rods made up already and was asking me how many mesh bags I thought he might need for two rods and if his hair rigs looked ok as he had to tie them with 9lb line because he was using 10lb mainline. He will be in full swing by Tuesday with a full layout, pod, rods, alarms checked and all assembled in his bedroom before he puts the cork on his hooks and carefully puts it all away ready for Thursday morning when he will ring half an hour before the due time telling me that he is ready when I am.
So in reply to your question. In our family anyway it never goes away and maybe it gets worse the more time you have on your hands. Have fun tomorrow

Love this. The ringing of the phone to say he is ready when you are half hour before you are due to arrive just reminds me of my dad. Enjoy every minute with him buddy.

Everytime beforei go i get excited, doesn't matter if its 3hours stalking or a couple of nights. The day the pre session excitement wanes is the day to pack up. Hopefully never!

I can't wait to get out every single opportunity. I was fortunate enough a few years ago to get out for 48 hours every week, and I'll admit at that point I didn't get the same buzz. Now I've scaled back a bit I still fish all year but appreciate every minute.

i do a day session every friday while the lockdown is in force.
i cant sleep Thursday night in anticipation. im planning everyday and thinking about my rigs/bait.

Got out for few hours yesterday although spent most time putting the deeper out but I hate staying indoors,next week I'm off on Monday so I'm off to a lake that's got depths up to 50' be interested to see what the deeper says,may take rods just in case too.

im lucky as my syndicate is ''local'' however that actually is defined.
i get excited just to have a walk around it and watch for a few hours.
i work in a office and get ''itchy'' when i know ive been inside for too long

I've been thinking about my first session of the year for weeks and getting excited about it, and it's only a day this coming Saturday.

I went yesterday..had a great session on my retro gear,mitchell 3.0.0 boomerang check version 5..etc.,cooked a steak,drank filtered river water,cool and refreshing,stopped fishing ,just to read the water!!
I'm going again Wednesday..my point is ,and I cant believe I'm actually saying this,I'm still excited for every trip,even after 51 yrs of being excited..
I work outside,in All weathers,I just couldn't bear to be stuck indoors..its the way I am,I worked once in a factory and it made me end up counting the beige tiles in the processing room,...from total boredom..14.000 of them..!!

I think its great we have a Hobby we love so much that we have trouble sleeping the night before we go, brilliant.
I can never settle the night before so always go on the night even if that means a night mission.
I used to rock up at ferry lagoon at around 2am and stroll around in the dead of the night, no feeling like it especially on a huge wild pit like that with nobody around.

I get excited every time I go to bed when I'm dreaming of all the possibilities. Then when we sit on the bank filled with anticipation, wondering if your chosen method and approach will work we get to see kingfishers at work and grebes doing that mating ritual. It's truly magic.

I love my fishing so much its been a great escape and addiction with gear, but I look forward to getting up at 3 am to make the hour and a bit drive to my Syndicate (when travel is allowed) I get so excited I barely sleep thinking which part of the lake the fish will be in what peg might be free and so on... Its just the best after my family its the best thing in my life
Even last month I went for a day session feeder fishing for bream on a local club lake I was like a kid on Xmas eve the day before getting the gear out the loft and making sandwiches and even managed one of the bigger specimen bream and the biggest perch I've ever caught on a boilie

I had 2 new rods,reels and holdall delivered Monday couldn't wait to get out on the canal yesterday morning even though I didn't catch it nice to be out.

Thinking about going this afternoon for few hours on canal in the town centre,its done a few high 20's in past and rumoured 30 plus too so may try tonight depends how I feel after being up since 5am.

I generally drive very sensibly. On a friday night after work though on the way to the lake though im a maniac.
Sitting here at home 'working' tying rigs for Saturdays day session, going Friday morning 5am before work to see where they showing and will be first there Saturday 5am to cast at them, spook them off and blank

I've joined Wraysbury 1 for the coming season. It's a good 3+ hour journey for me but I actually enjoy it. My first session will be in May but I'm already excited.
This week I have ordered all my gear that I will using to beef up my current set up, including braided mainline for the first time.
I know without doubt that I will be setting off at about midnight for my first session as there is no way I will be able to sleep.
I never get that level of anticipation for my other hobby, golf.

I sometimes struggle to get up for it, but am currently sorting my river stuff for a long weekend on the wye which has got the juices going.

Hi man! I understand you perfectly. I started fishing at 50 and I always get excited before going fishing. I rejoice like a child and collect baubles and fishing rods. I've been dreaming about some unusual fishing for a long time. And my family decided to surprise me. In the summer, my son gave me an unusual tour of Austria. We flew to Vienna from where we went by train to a beautiful mountain lake. There was great fishing! And these majestic mountains around. I'm still under the impression.
I can never sleep the night before a trip if the ferry or tunnel was booked for the morning I would be looking at the clock every 30 mins all night soon got fed up with that I used to do 2 or 3 trips every year
so in the end I used to book the ferry for midnight and drive thru the night instead it worked out great less traffic and I would arrive very early at the venue and have a doze in the car or checkout the local super market etc

I'm fishing this afternoon/evening on the river.
I woke up at 3.30 am this morning in anticipation.......
I'm already planning trips for next week having studied the weather forecast. Sleep deprivation will kick in on about Tuesday !

The night before I'm up all night getting everything organised, bags checked, batteries charged up, food packed into cool box, bait double checked, car packed etc etc. No way I'd get a wink of sleep. Bit brutal I know but I try and catch a bit of sleep once I get there even if it means leaving the rods out of the water for a few hours. So much planning goes into a trip for me and looking after kids etc difficult to sort everything out until I have the house to myself. But yes massively excited, wouldn't get any sleep if I tried.
