Hi, just seen a couple of pictures of TA new rucksack, looks like it has a couple changes , has anyone seen one in the flesh yet ?

Not seen it. Interested though. I had the original, liked it, but just horribly to carry.
Is it a new rucksack, like a larger model that is actually comfortable to carry. LOL

Or just a another different material of the original design ?

Saw it as a new item on Johnson Ross website
the top section has a tray can't see the other differences though
size looks similar

Be good if bigger I don't see the need for trays tbh no good adding trays and it's to uncomfortable to use just make it comfortable I had one sold it was gutted then later bought another to give it another try same problem sold that I spoke to dozens of people round the lakes in few years and not one said it was comfortable if better I will order one today thinking anglers is good gear I can't see any photos of new padding which I think is important to see simple just copy the esp or drennan ones harness they are so comfortable

It dosent look very comfy in the video on the website. Its hanging down off his shoulders. That camflec camo pattern is horrible.

Why do people continue to buy rucksacks sold by fishing tackle companies (rhetorical question)... it's all over-priced rubbish. Just look at what you can get for your money elsewhere... Wisport, Condor, Direct Action - all make rucksacks that are in another league to the rubbish you buy from tackle shops. Just take a look at Miltary 1st and realise what you've been missing...

I mentioned military rucksacks on here a few times, unfortunately the majority won't listen and just keep buying the same garbage time and time again - it's...



The best military rucksack I've ever had is the LOWE ALPINE Sting burgen. It's fully adjustable and as comfy as you're ever likely to come across, and just about the right size for a day pack with loads of room. You could always get the LOWE ALPINE Saracen, that is very big mind, equally as comfy as the former I mentioned. You can always get one of the newer British Army burgens, though they will be too big for many and not as comfy as the LOWE ALPINE ones.

What the hell has it got to do with you what people want to buy and use.I have just switched my gear to Speero it cost me a couple of hundred quid to do.Its not exactly alot of money is it,I spend more on a meal out with my family

I think they just added the to pocket and tray to the TA rucksack. I have the old one and it has the same depth and width when I measure it.
I have the ESP rucksack and to me it's the perfect size. The opening for the main compartment is 20cm x 35cm on the ESP and 20cm x 25cm on the TA. The side and front pockets on the ESP are also bigger.
I know the ESP isn't military spec, but it's designed with a foot print so it will stand up without falling over so I can have it right beside my chair which is handy as I mostly fish day sessions

I do a bit of poaching, so I would actually like it to be at least bulletproof.

There hasn't been one tackle manufacturer that has ever made a decent rucksack to date. There's no doubt that companies have made some trick looking attempts with all the bells and whistles, yet they always fail on two very important aspects: comfort and longevity/ durability.

The big difference between military rucksacks/ bergans and consumer grade tackle companies rucksacks is that the former of recent times are tested over thousands and thousands of hours on state of the art machines in places like Porton Down which are designed and developed to be comfortable to the degree of being useful and will last the rigours of being thrown around, ripped through hedges, generally abused without falling apart in various different environments and scenario's. Tackle companies on the other hand don't have such things as Porton Down at their disposal, instead, the design teams at 'X Tackle HQ' come up with the best that they can, ticking certain boxes and wants along the way hoping something will eventually stick, their design fails and then the MKII super duper wicked is out in a years or so's time, and blokes just lap it up, rinse and repeat.

Crack on chaps, they'll surely make a good one one day won't they? Kek.

That's right when I go fishing I often include a trek across the beacons, chucking my gear in the back of a 110 defender and, doing some FIBUA training.

Military rucksacks work fine but they aren't designed for fishing. Generally they are too narrow and are a pain in the rear to get stuff out of, on top of this they won't stand up on their own, this is again a pain in the rear. The problem is everyone wants something slightly different from a rucksack. If I went and designed my perfect one, it would undoubtedly be very different to yours.

Either went over your head the point I was making or you're being purposley argumentative and ignored my points I've made just for the sakes of argument, but again I'll make the point that military gear of recent times is rigourously tested and punished to find it's weak points which are then in most cases fixed in testing, fishing rucksacks obviously aren't tested to the same degree as the military gear which is why clips blow up, shoulder straps rip off and zips fail for example.

Obviously when we're fishing we're not coming under enemy sniper fire after being dropped off from a Puma and have to tab 20km over mountain regions fully loaded with mortar rounds, bands of 7.62 for the GPMG and spare 5.56 for yourself and others to end up fighting at close quarters at the end of the tab just to do an afternoons mixer fishing...but what we should expect is the rucksack we do buy from 'X' brand isn't torture having it on our backs mooching around a pool or gravel pit and halfway round the shoulder strap tears off because the stitching is sub standard or that your buzzers are somewhere around the lake as they've fallen off coz the fake Molle system is a load of old w..k.

Granted, the military [British Army for instance] stuff doesn't stand up on its own, neither does it have natty internals where 'X' brands specifically designed luggage fits neatly inside - there are compromises - but the trick that recent military gear does have up its sleeve is it's not far short of being bomb proof, it won't fall to pieces or let you down when fully loaded and will last for years and years into the future. As for being too narrow, maybe undo the compression straps? I don't know what ones you've used before, the ones I've used are anything but narrow; cavernous would be a very apt description.

I dont know what fishing rucksacks you have used but I havent had a shoulder strap tear off, stitching come away or a clip blow up in 25 years of carp fishing. I agree with the other comments of hiking rucksacks being to long and deep so your rummaging around in the bottom looking for things and as mentioned its a pain in the arse that they wont stand up properly inside a bivvy.

I have the old (~12 months old) TA camo sack, it can be uncomfortable when you first sling it on, my issue was the chest strap around my throat. If you tighten the shoulder straps it pulls the sack up into position, I then find it perfectably comfortable. I find it ideal for fishing due to the bankstick pockets, easy access to main compartment and pouches.
I have a few 'high end' rucksacks (if there is such a thing) that I use for skiing - whilst they are comfier they would be a pain to use for fishing as lack the purpose designed feature above. I'd end up with everything stuffed in one compartment and have to empty them to get anything.

Ultimately the majority of military gear is made to suit a budget - if you wanted a really high quality product I'd bet that a good mountaineering rucksack would be superior.

Yeah mate, I'm aware of those types of packs. They're probably better than what the tackle companies put out there and tick the boxes for most anglers.

Speero top quality gear I remember some time ago an x soldier on here said that he had the ta one and said it was the nearest you will get to army one he thought it was great I don't agree as I already said but he was saying how comfortable it was I can't see it but that was his opinion and he had used both so we have to respect other people's opinion as all they are doing is telling as they found it being rude to people is very childish over a rucksack

All depends on your type of fishing too, if you park near the lake and walk a couple of hundred years to a swim and use a barrow your requirements are very different to someone walking along miles of river or to remote lakes where you can't use a barrow.

Had a speero bag and the quality was amazing just didn't sit as well as some of the military style bags

The flaw that I notice that is wrong with the Speero design is there's no tension straps on the shoulder area (the same problem with that one you threw up a link to) whereby you can't get the rucksack close to your back. As the rucksack is now, when fully loaded, that will put considerable pressure on your mid to lower back which isn't good at all. When you start clipping the extra accessory bags on top of the main bag, that will only amplify the flaw.

If you watch one of the used and abused videos about this rucksack, when the guy is posing with it, the problem is self evident.

The most comfortable rucksack I've used the harness is a military design but the bag is designed for anglers. It can be accessed stood up or laid flat, the quality is better than military ones I've had but like any ruck it needs to be loaded to distribute the weight to suit the person using it.
It wasn't tested on advanced machines in Porton down but contrary what some may believe neither are army issue ones.

Reminds me of my osprey rucksack. Surely what's needed is something like the osprey harness system with the actual sack adapted for fishing sized boxes and banksticks, buzzer bars etc. Wouldn't be cheap though would it.

This is adapted for fishing size boxes, banks ticks etc and the material has a coated inner and waterproof cover, don't know if it's still available but it's a fox fx.

Very well designed rucksack from Fox there, best I've seen so far. Unfortunately they don't make them anymore.

Very well designed, Probably why they stopped making it.
Lasted longer than a seasoned regular use... maybe even comfortable and hard wearing.

Sooner or later someone, hopefully Thinking anglers, might do it, will get the brief right, a practical, and comfortable to carry Rucksack, with a padded, or hard plate, back length, good shoulder straps, sternum strap, and a comfortable Hip belt straps

What I was going to add to that post before I hit submit was that maybe it came down to a trends thing and that they found out that people had switched to natty little rucksacks that say Aqua was making and dropped the the FX one?

Totally get what you mean. Fashion trends go hand in hand with production.

IMHO you now have two types of anglers now... the barrowers, and the 'old skool' carrying kit. Ever since the TA Ruck came out, it set a bit of a high benchmark, but everyone wishes it maybe a bit bigger, and much more comfortable to carry.

Like the original fox ruckbox, the TA rucky is great in features and looks, once in the swim, stable and practical, but not great to carry fully loaded and for long distances.
