It appears during the Firsrt lockdown a Few Syndicates applied for buisness support Grant's of the Goverment. Some of the Syndicates done the right thing and passed some of this money on to there members for loss of fishing. The Linch hill syndicate was apparently one of them. Anyone on here recieved any kind of rebate on there fishing or not as the case may be.

My place is extending memberships rather than reimbursing. I'm moving on to a new ticket this year so probably won't make the use of it, but I appreciate the thought.

unfortunately for me ill have to write last year off as a loss with 3 sessions 2 runs and no fish but 3 ducks

the syndicate im a member of is very small so its just a small price to pay for the peace and tranquility i can get when i can get away a fish is just a bonus in the current climate to me as escaping it all is great.

Tbh I think all the lakes are suffering enough already, I haven't even asked for my money back on my two syndicates, just going to right it off and let them keep it. I'll be renewing in may so hopefully be better this year.

my new syndicate, unable to fish for 3 months last year with lockdown even though bailiffs were, rammed all summer and autumn to the extent i could'nt even get into the carpark on 3 occasions, and now again shut for nights. No rebates, and fees going up in April, no thanks!

Apparently according to the Carp cast. On the reverse a few Syndicate owners have been binning these Grant's. And not passing on any kind of refund to the angler for lost fishing. Effectively being paid twice.

My syndicate has already extended memberships to cover loss of fishing during both of last year's lockdowns, and has announced that it will be doing the same again at the end of the current one. Can't say fairer than that - appreciated!

I don't see how any true syndicate can be eligible for a government grant, as they aren't run for profit. Day ticket, or glorified limited members pay lake, then maybe, as they are businesses.

My syndicate hasn't said anything about refunds, we paid as normal last year and that was just after the first lockdown started. When it did re-open it was stupidly busy so getting on the fish was a problem and now I can't go because it's not local so I can't travel there. I dont know if they'll offer a refund or an extension but I wouldn't expect them to.

Neither of my 'syndicate' tickets have offered refunds, nor would I expect or ask them to tbh.

Renewals on both have gone up (in line with fishery plans), so have no issue with that either.

Let's be honest, most syndicates are nothing but pay lakes where the owner/leaseholder runs a water to make a profit. In essence you are paying for the privilege to angle for their fish for a season. Unfortunately this year due to no fault of anyone this hasn't been possible. The principle in my opinion is that members should be reimbursed or offered an extension of time. How many members on here have gym memberships that they would/have happily kept on paying without having access throughout lockdowns? I appreciate that this could ruin some fisheries so the decent thing is to offer a compromise, half the time and reimburse that, either financially or extension of ticket (bet you wouldn't accept that at your gym?).
Carp waters hold people ransom in the knowledge that many members will want to rejoin so won't rock the boat.
My own ‘syndicate' was shut for the first lockdown, often rammed throughout the summer, and is now closed to deter people from breaking the fish local advice. Very interested to hear that there is the possibility they have received a grant also.

The only way I could see a government grant being suitable, is if the water in question is a business that supports someone's livelihood, and their income has been impacted negatively by current restrictions. Conversely, and by very definition, a true syndicate supports itself, and is not run for profit.

Most of the time, it's deluded fishery owners advertising and turning a pound coin by using the magic word “syndicate” to attract members...

It's a limited members glorified pay lake, from which money is made. (Plenty of which are no doubt excellent venues but be under no illusions as to the financial aspect.) And therefore I want my money back, or an extension of the right to fish... Which yes, under the circumstances where someone has made money and applied for a government grant, is more understandable... In effect though, it's tax payer supported fishing tickets... Whatever next, full time dole sponsored anglers..? 🤣

Some of the best anglers I've ever met were on the dole 😉.
Funny thing is syndicates I remember forming were set up to get away from rules and stocking policy that made carp angling restrictive. Reducing the cost of your and your mates angling long term was a benefit.
Snobbery in all walks of life though mate and it comands £'s.

If my syndicate got a grant (agreed on I cant see how they could) but id rather they kept the money for developing the lake.

Wouldn't think to ask for money back because of covid rules - its not the fault of the syndicate is it.

In fact on my syndicate there was a call to arms to donate some bait through spring to keep feeding them last year, most members did and the results were amazing for the fish.

I think this business about getting a grant is very rare you have to be a proper registered business and PROVE lots of things to be eligible

Im not in a syndicate BUT I am in a couple of clubs one of them a couple of members mentioned a refund but as our club said the land owner is always paid in advance and if the club approached him it would probably be a quick way to lose that fishery

Mine neither, although a few members are moaning about not being able to night fish and want to be compensated. The two syndicates I'm on are not run to make money and have had their own share of issues due to covid restrictions. One benefit I am seeing is people are dropping out of some syndicates, especially right now as a few of them start collecting renewals - only last week I found out I now have a place on a very special water. First time a in many years they've had anyone drop out and my name was top of the waiting list. Only took 8 years

I used to work in a gym, use it every other day and find time for two overnighters carp fishing every week.
I can't do with being unfit, and at the time I was playing competitive sport regularly.

In terms of syndicate rebates or refunds, I honestly don't see how many could do it.
For many with a fixed 'season', say June to June, it would be impossible to extend the ticket to cover lockdown time, or give a refund. It may be that next season some can offer reduced price tickets or membership, but not all. Gone are the days of a bottle of scotch to the owner for 'the rights'.
I know a number of gyms have extended membership by the period of lockdown, and where I work has cancelled all monthly direct debits from members for both golf, and the spa and gym.

I'm lucky in that my syndicate also offers pike fishing, so I haven't really lost any fishing time other than by my own choice not to go. Maybe I would have fished a bit more could I have done nights, but it hasn't got great winter previous form for carp.
To be honest, with what I have on my syndicate, anglers and fish, I think the cost I paid for membership is cheap.
An ongoing stocking policy, they forked out for a weed cutting boat to remove weed from some areas of the lake, and good anglers who respect each other.

Can't face the place myself anymore. I used the gym to keep fit for American Football and rugby, when I retired I vowed I would never go back in one again. Keeping fit is now walking the dog and the occasional swim.

Everyone seems to have an excuse these days.

Back in the day people didn't need to display a badge, they just got on with life, nower days they want sympathy and a free parking space.

Bye the way my wife is a school head, i know all about ADHD, ADH, etc etc etc. Something changed in this country circa 1990

You really don't have to prove anything, these grants have been chucked at businesses.

My father has a but butchers and in-laws have a farm, none of them applied for a grant but got one.

Excuse me please, your comment is ignorant.
I don't want sympathy, I was making a point.

I will tell you what changed about 1990, less 'educated', or those with difficulties in learning, started to be tested to find out their differences, about why they learn differently or at slower rates.
Autism started to show up in testing, how the brain works for different people, different abilities.
honest

Autistic people take comments literally.

Whether you know it or not, actually from your post, I think not, your wife may be a school head, does not mean she is an understanding teacher.

I don't want a parking space, all I want to be honest, is treated with respect. Which in this case I think you have failed to do.

Very few people indeed know anything about Autism and fewer still have the ability or motivation to try and understand it. That includes 99.99% of head teachers who are extremely busy doing other things. Trained specialist provision is very thin on the ground and quality resources are almost non existent.
As for you SPINBLOWER, your arrogant, ignorant, rude and clueless comment clearly indicates your total ignorance of this topic. About par for the course for you. Time to shut up.

Blue Badges are only given to those who really need them ,and you have to be assessed by a professional before you get one, and please, before jumping in with both feet, bear in mind not all disabilities are visual.

Please explain how my wife who has a blue badge, could go about with anything like the quality of life she should have without it.?
Try suffering with multi tier degeneration of the spine and neck that can only get worse, never better , twenty four hour pain, and having to pop the strongest pills just to get out of bed in the mornings, let along have a normal life that you obviously take for granted.

She is now in recovery from a stroke and bleed to the brain, a Blue Badge is a life line.

Your sympathy is the last thing she would ever want from someone like you.

Well put Nick

Even prior to 'the 1990's' - the previous posters lack of knowledge showing through again - the same kind of thing was apparent in schools in relation to dyslexia. I recall a very good mate of mine who was deemed 'less intelligent' due to this. He was tested later in life and it all made sense.

This is part of the problem with education, for both those within the autistic spectrum, parents and teachers.
It is only from 1990 onwards that children (originally just children) started being tested for learning differences or disabilities.

You had obvious visible differences, like Downs syndrome, who sometimes were unable to express themselves like 'normal people', yet Autism was not known.
People with Autism or dyslexia were 'simple minded' or other equally upsetting terms.
It is really only now that adults are being tested and many are finding that they are within the spectrums of these.

I say differences intentionally, I hate the term disabled, as many within the spectrum are not disabled, not stupid, they just express themselves in a different manner, learn differently, sometimes faster or easier, sometimes they struggle.
Within the Autistic spectrum, Aspberger's in my case, I get (or got until Coronavirus and Lockdown 1) extra counselling to help curb some of my OCD's or 'tics', I don't classify myself as disabled, I'm different.

Sorry, I took the thread way off topic, but if this helps someone understand disability, and difference then it is a positive.

Rebates, I don't think it will happen for many or most.

absolutely - and an interesting tangent is nothing to apologise for.

being an ignorant berk who thinks being married to a head teacher is an excuse on the other hand....

As for syndicate rebates - my understanding of syndicates is a shared responsibility / shared reward (if it's a true syndicate as opposed to a members water) - so a rebate is a non gain really?
