Well the saying goes 'A fool and his money are easily parted' I think it should be changed to 'A carp fisherman and his money are easily parted'. If it's not tackle companies adding huge percentage of carp tax to identical products you can buy in other markets for a lot less what is with all the 'tackle giveaway' sites that are popping up?
This weekend alone facebook has kindly introduced me to four new places I can gamble away hard earned cash rather than just save it up and spending it myself. Sites like UK carp Tech (formed feb 2020), Carp gear giveaways (formed jan 2020), Carp gear ltd (formed Jul 2020) and now Fisholux (formed May 2020). I am sure there are others.
Looking at Facebook some people genuinely believe these businesses are giving away tackle out of the goodness of there hearts, to quote 'in these difficult times its so good to see you helping others'
I corrected one person along the lines of 'company XXXXX are a business, they sell tickets at 2 or 3 times the RRP of the product which they then no doubt pay trade prices for...they then make a profit'...I got banned from that facebook page 
Am I the only person that would rather save my money and then buy what I can afford when I can afford it?

Agree mate, I have zero interest in the business model of these companies. I too was bombarded by Fisholux and have blocked them on every platform.
Part of me says that if Anglers are gullible enough to get involved then that is up to them but the other half thinks it is nothing short of gambling and should be considered so and governed by the Gambling Commission......I bet none of them are!

Not just carp tattle though, cars, motorcycles, and what's with all the lotteries even charities are starting there own to raise funds. The only one I would like to see do any of the above to fund themselves is the BBC.

There's so many of the businesses about one called BOTB doing raffles for cars and watches etc.
So many popping up as people are seeing how lucrative these companies are, on some of them they will not even run the raffle until they have enough tickets sold which could be never!
Bit of a scam but if people are falling for it then more fool them

This is not a little raffle at the local working mens club or a charity once or twice a year, it a business model.
I like businesses that make stuff, build things, educate people, add to society. These take money for nothing

I never like to see companies fail but I really hope this Fisholux fall on their arse with this.
Take the Delkim "competition" for example, (it isn't a competition, it is a draw) 300 tickets at £3.79 per ticket means that if all sold they will bring in £1,137 for a set of alarms and accessories which retail for circa £600. Bear in mind they will have been obtained at cost price as well and the profit margin is even bigger.
Hopefully most will see through this and wont be taken for mugs...

yes they will make money but someone will get alarms for 3.79! It is not like if people wouldn't know that it is a lotery kind a gamble... and it is 1:300 chance, not that bad it is only 4 korda swivels worth

I saw that one 😂 I generally don't mind these types of things and people earning money, but some of the profits are just outrageous. Then when you mention it you get the old “we have to pay for advertising” etc
I play the bonus ball type ones now and then but am under no illusion that it's a dead cert. but the profit made on the items isn't ridiculous so don't mind playing it. Wouldn't catch me playing the fisholux or whatever one though

I'm sure that Jag won't mind me posting this. A few months ago they received a phone call from a guy who was just calling to give them his address. He'd won a complete jag pod kit in a Facebook raffle and apparently it was being dispatched directly to him by the manufacturers. Jag knew absolutely nothing about it. We're not involved in anyway and I can confidently say wouldn't be supplying any stock at trade prices to these kinds of outfits. Queue one very disappointed and pissed off caller.

I got a bit caught up in this when one site first started at the beginning of the year. Won £400 of Korda end tackle, Korda Distance sticks and in March i won a Trakker Tempest Advanced 150. I totalled up how much i'd spent on "tickets". It was about £150.
To be honest, i didn't really need any more end tackle, i already had distance sticks, and the Trakker has just joined the many other bivvys in my garage on the off chance i may go to France sometime in the future.
I would like to think myself fairly level headed, but it would have been all too easy to become an expensive habit. Haven't bought any tickets on these sites since. I have been tempted a couple of times, but have now left these FB groups..

I have had a couple of goes on the carp giveaways one. I only do the mini comps and only the ones that are between 99p to £2 I only do the ones that I want to win with decent odds on winning to.

I've won a few things on raffles and If I totalled up the amount I'd spent on tickets, it would still be WELL under the price of the stuff I had won. Set of TXI-D's, Indulgence MF60 and SS3 Wideboy and about £600 worth of various other bits too. Each to their own of course, I do not expect everyone would like them but to say the people are scammers is just stupid, nothing scamming about it Blankosaurus

Well clearly there are people out there who have jumped on the band wagon and are running dodgy raffles, cos I didn't make up the phone call did I. All I was saying was be careful. Maybe don't take each one at face value.

As you say be careful. Definitely too many suspicious ones about for me to take a chance. Highly unlikely that even the genuine ones make a loss, the odds will always be in their favour.
On a lighter note my wife seems to have the lucky gene, we went to a high end watch presentation on a cruise and there was a free draw for a watch that my wife won. Another cruise she bought 5 tickets and won three prizes, she was a bit embarrassed about that one.

Pay a quid get 6 numbers right for what 4 million quid
I'm sure the national lottery make a bucket load of cash out of what they are doing but no one moans about that.

I can't help but always look at it that way too.

BOTB is no scam. There's a fella I know who won a Porsche 718 Cayman and £20k in cash! He kept the car for six months and then sold it. Agree though, there are some dodgy goings on out there, but BOTB isn't one of them.

I too won a Skoda in a raffle...
Before I picked it up from the dealership I asked the salesman if it was the 16 valve model.
He replied Skoda only made 8 valve engines .

Sadly a lot of people get hooked on these sort of things
be it lotto , or scratch cards, facebook raffles all are ok if you buy into it and not EXPECT to win problems arrive when people see things they dont have a realistic prospect of owning and get hooked into thinking they will win

I work at a bank and we actually don't allow these sorts of businesses to open accounts with us...says it all!
Having looked into it a bit, cos I initially assumed it was a scam, most of the companies seem perfectly legitimate. Whilst there are no doubt scammers out there, the main thing that bothers me is they try to make out that the punters are all part of some great community, it seems people become both financially invested and emotionally. The people that run these companies whilst doing nothing illegal are morally bankrupt.
Should add, No issues with people having a flutter as long as people aren't being duped.

Years back one of my colleagues set up a lottery syndicate at a quid a week.
I declined the offer to join.
4 years later they had a win and came into work all excited as they had scooped 92 quid each.
They all took the piss out of me for not joining and one colleague called me a loser and said that I bet your pissed off now.
I then pointed out that I was over 100 quid better off overall.
The look on his face was priceless.

I've seen loads of these on Facebook etc. Don't do them personally. Prefer to work, save and buy my gear. On a slightly more serious note gambling can quickly become addictive, so be careful.

You never know though. My old mans boss never got involved in his work syndicate and called it a waste of money..........the numbers came in and they shared out 2.2 million. My old man got something around around the 100k mark. He brought me my first set of hand built rods 👌

A friend of mine runs a raffle company. Among other raffles he does TWO every day, that sell £1500 worth of tickets to win £1000 each. He lost a lot of money setting up the buisness not selling out tickets and doing the draw at a loss. But it seems to be paying out now. Although I'm pretty sure the tax rules for these kind of things are insane now.
I had 1 3.50 ticket in a raffle to win 48hrs at linear. All bait and food inc and a venue expert with me.

A friend of mine won a Golf R32 from Dream Car Giveaways. He bought one ticket, first time he'd ever done anything like that and got the winning ticket. When he picked the car up it wasn't quite as good as he was expecting so he put it on eBay with a start price of whatever the raffle ticket cost him and no reserve. It ended at something like £6500.
