Torn between these two jackets, is one better than the other? Roughly same price, has anyone got or had both?

Sasquatch all day long.

Got an sj9... But you do need to try them on as sizes differ even if all labelled same size...
Once you find one that fits, they are very warm, normally a t-shirt or thin long sleeved top will suffice underneath...
Had mine 3 or 4 years now...been very pleased with it... No issues at all 😊

Have the SJ9 and as already mentioned in a previous thread once one is found that fits is a brilliant jacket. I was lucky in that the one I orderded fitted from the outset. Exceedingly warm and very well made.

I have the FJ6 which is the longer version and warm enough for Iceland
Really warm and keeps the base of your back protected 👍

Got neither, but I considered both of these, before settling for the snugpak torrent. Similar temp rating, but also waterproof. I think it's the only waterproof one they do.

I just felt like an all in one, rather than having to carry a waterproof coat as well as a warm jacket.

The torrent IMO doesn't feel like a normal waterproof jacket and isn't noisy. Good filling, which I think is the same as the Sasquatch and sj9.

Maybe not for everyone - just offering an alternative.

SJ9 jacket for me......awesome and imagine any jacket in their range is equally good.......

got the Sasquatch and superwarm but as others have said not waterproof. i got the snugpak patrol poncho which packs down really small and is waterproof when you need it. That way i can remove the poncho when in my bivvy and not soak everything with a wet coat.

I have a Sasquatch and it is indeed very warm
Also two softies and an elite which I wear to walk to the shops etc 😂
But could honestly advice using two softies
One slightly larger than the other , I prefer the older model
My patrol poncho leaked like a sieve when I needed it most
Also the softie trousers under your bottoms when it gets proper cold is ideal
I know what it's like , you fancy treating yourself so look to purchase the best etc
Let's face it a Ferrari is out of the question
There isn't a breathable warm dry coat available that works
My advice is get warm and then get goretex over the top when rains
Not ideal but as good as it gets 👍🏻

I know what you're saying. I dont really rate gore-tex stuff, and I have breathable waterproof jackets which I use and walk the dog in etc that are breathable but I don't really need a fishing coat to be breathable as it'll only be put on when it's cold not when hiking etc, or even don't think I'd wear it walking to the swim, more just last resort to whack on when it's really cold. Could be totally wrong in my thinking but just sick of having layers on layers to keep warm and dry and not being able to move freely!

Exactly that's why two softies work you can wear one to walk to the swim etc
And when it get nippy bung the other one on
They are cheap and can be stashed in the barrow or vehicle
My Sasquatch is nice but once it gets slimed etc or gets wet I'm knackered

Can't com ment on the torrent to be honest
But have a north face breathable jacket I got for Xmas
As a smart jacket
And when I go out I'm bloody cold😂 to be honest
The softies are UK army surplus
I bought new ones and also German flectarn top and bottoms
Works for me
Maybe the torrent is good but I can't say as I've never used one
The softie bottoms come up massive so go down two sizes

Use a sleeka as an ordinary jacket
Nice as a walking jacket etc
But not as a static fishing coat

Maybe try a softie jacket as a stepping stone
Cheap and reliable

The softie bottoms are good, cost about a tenner from memory. When it's proper cold I put on the the old thermal long johns, joggers over them and then the softie trousers over the top as the last resort

Just bought some softie trousers and was deliberating over jackets.. ended up getting a snugpak sleeka elite, bought the sasquatch then changed my mind as its not waterproof I will need to wear my goretex jacket over the top, made more sense to use the sleeka as midlayer for if its raining, and an outer when dry with an addition hoodie underneath.

I also wear the softie trousers (with softie jacket) when its cold.
The waist isnt great on them so im going to investigate into some braces for them.

I've got a set of the softie trousers and had the same problem at the weekend, no belt loops or drawstring to tighten the waiste and I also thought about a set of braces,if you take them with you and put them on when there its not too bad but they're not great for waking round in

In reply to #18 &21..Answer maybe Swedish Army M90 cold weather trousers...quilted..full length zips..higher back and belt loops/brace attatchments. A fantastic alternative to the softie bottoms..I have both types but prefer the softies myself

I take a medium in all jackets and tops and J would say my medium Sj9 was true to size. Luckily the first one I ordered fitted fine so haven't had the issues with regards to sizing.

I tried 4 or 5 jackets on at the northern angling show,same size and model,every jacket fitted differently,even the bloke serving me thought I was taking the piss,some too tight,some too small...the bloke couldnt believe it and actually checked they were all the same size. I walked away as I couldnt get a decent t fitting one

I must be lucky, I am a large in everything ,got a large softie jacket and a large sasquatch. Both fit as they should and do their job .

All the jackets I own and have owned are large this sj 6 is also large it's the cut of it others have said about tight arms I have a £25 army softie in large fits great

Got the 6 and Sasquatch.

Had them a while now but went for XXL.( 6ft tall and 15 stone)

Good fit but would not be putting a hoodie underneath. Just a long sleeve base layer.

I would never buy another snugpak, unless I could try on beforehand.
Johnson ross used to have a decent selection, probably still do.

Yep, the sizing of their jackets is terrible. I went into JR's and tried on several jackets and no two were the same! Ended up, giving up. The sleeves are stupidly long on their jackets and they come up quite lengthy around the waist, very odd fit. Good luck if you can get one that fits you. Mate of mine found the same thing at a trade show - on their stand! I'd never buy one without trying it on. Even when I see people wearing them , generally they look a bit odd, as it is obvious the jacket isn't a good fit on them. I guess some people don't care too much...

Just get a Craghoppers thermal jacket - a third of the price, quality is goiod and their sizing is pretty normal I find. They do most jackets in some shade of green. Snugpak jackets aren't all that IMO and well over priced come to think of it.

Just taken delivery of snugpak sj9 jacket (not fortis), have to say it fits perfectly!
The arms are a good length which is a breath of fresh air and its long enough which was my main concern. Definitely not getting cold in this!!!
Appears to be fairly water resistant as well.. Happy days

Just bought a sasquatch from someone, they said a medium would fit me and tbh I wasn't so sure as I'm usually xl or sometimes l, the medium is still big on me so their sizing is way off. Not used it yet so can't comment on how warm it is

I have asked the question also - how cold does it have to be to want to wear both?

The XXL Sasquatch is huge. I am a big sod and it is big on me but all that air space means it is warmer.

So are the Fortis SJs more shower proof than fully waterproof?

Do most owners have a waterproof jacket to put over the top when the rain is really bad?

I've been thinking about getting one for a while, as much for being out walking in winter as much as actually fishing

Yes more shower proof, wouldnt want to get it soaked.
It was absolutely lovely wearing last night didnt feel hot sat out in about 8 degrees with a a fleece and thermal top underneath but felt like I would still be warm in minus temps. Really really comfy. Not the Fortis version though.

Cant talk about the SJ's but I did fancy a waterproof Sasquatch. So I got a Torrent Extreme.

Ordered a sasquatch for £97 new from ukmcpro yesterday as they are the only ones that had a medium so will see how the fit is when it turns up, tried on an sj9 Fortis today in a tackle shop which I didn't know stocked them and the fit in large was great, need to see how the sasquatch compares.

Has anyone else tried the Snugpak Torrent? Thoughts?

I have to say, I used my snugpak sj9 jacket in the minus 5 we saw last weekend and it was amazing, it was like a warm blanket around me, very comfortable. My best purchase of 2020. I bought an xxl and I'm 6ft 4 and a fairly big guy and it fits lovely with room underneath, shower proof ripstop type material , although I expect if it actually peeed it down it might get wet but I would use my goretex jacket in that scenario. Would highly recommend for cold weather, and I didnt feel sweaty either, just warm.

I purchased a sasquatch in medium and usually a large and it drowned me so sent it back and got an Sj9 in large and it's great, a little big in some areas but I think a medium would be too tight in some areas. I walked along the river with a spinner on Sunday and it was 0° and was sweating!

My Snugpak Torrent arrived went out for a family walk with it. Big thumbs up from me. Got an XL as I'd be wearing it with a fleece in the extreme cold but it still fits nicely with plenty of room for a layer underneath.

Sadly I think you have just lost probably the warmest thing you have ever worn. The Sasquatch is very warm but if it is a bit on the large size they get even warmer (more air space in there). I have a Sasquatch - it was the first Snugpak jacket I bought. Because I am big sod I ordered the biggest size knowing that they are oversized anyway (to fit over another jacket), Well it was a bit on the large size but I kept it anyway. That turned out to be a good move because the larger size means it is more like a doss bag than a jacket and it is easily the warmest thing I have ever worn. I only ever wear it whilst fishing - I certainly would never go walking in it.

I also have a Torrent and a Torrent Extreme. The Extreme is rated as warmer than the Sasquatch and although it is a very warm jacket, my big Sasquatch is the go to when it is dry.

Maybe,maybe not. Like I said snugpak sizing seems to be quite random. The m is enormous, I could get 2 winter coats under it and it would still fit and I'm usually an XL or very occasionally an l. I would want to try one on before buying tbh

. . .if you want warm and a decent fit look at the Rab Andes in Army - some good prices on this jacket at the moment and down filled so will be warmer / lighter than any like for like synthetic fill . . .

I got the sashsquash in medium and I'm normally large, it's massive across the chest.
Perfect on arms and length.
But being so big works well especially having it on in the bivvy.
