Thats me, of holding on to things "just in case", I have some old and I mean old flavours, I'm sure they won't be any good now, so I'm thinking of dumping them, AND, is it possible to have just one flavour for boillie that will work all year round, sweet, nutty, fishy or what, can you recommend a particular one that works for you.

Im convinced they are not the same i was lucky enough to use a lot of the early hutchy flavours and combo's and still have bottles of fizz and harvest that have been kept in a dark cupboard for over 20 years they have deteriorated not only do they smell different they are no longer as effective.
i would imagine a lot of the bottles for sale on ebay etc are no longer as good as when they were made

I've done that recently I had stupid amounts of pots but got rid of them all and just kept sticky krill hookbaits (wafters, pop ups and tuff ones) sticky signature wafters plus pop ups 12mm and finally sticky pineapple 12mm pop ups and wafters
So only got 3 different ones now I don't need any different ones these all seem to do me well

Same as. I can't bring myself to Chuck em away just in case I need them one time. Although they will be in the shed while I am on the bank when I do.

If I had to choose one flavour all year round it would be a bun spice flavour I think

Hutchies original chocolate malt and John Bakers Plum would work as my all year bait.
I don't see any "green lipped mussel" or "Liver extract" etc, I used to go by these types for warm weather and sweet for cold, it looks like mainly sweet all year round now.
My all year round flavour that worked everywhere was/is Mainline Maple, this bottle must be 20 years old lol and still one of the youngest I have.

I was thinking maple or more probably in my case maplecream. It seems to work with all base mixes and at all times of the year.
But even then Iwwould want to add a few drops of iso eugenol and 2ml of sweet cajouser so not really one flavour. That's my experience with all flavours they work best in combinations.

add a few drops of iso eugenol
I've never been one to get too involved with complicated or extra special baits, if a 50/50 base mix works thats what I will use, so, what is and where to get it and what doe's iso eugenol do.

It's mainly extracted from clove - you could just use clove EO
Maddocks was using it back in the day, was talked about positively in his bit about tank test.

John Baker sells a flavour called butt ringer, its cream flavour with added iso eugenol and is an easy way to use it but I get mine from Feedstimulants from Holland. They have a uk agent called Baitwize.
As has been said its in clove oil but I prefer the extracted stuff. It is a great attractor and over the years a number of high profile carp anglers have mentioned it.

Has anyone tried the blackcurrant from BAF ? Wouldn't mind trying with a decent essential oil in a Fishmeal bait.
Thanks guys, I'll take a look, BTW I don't think a lot of anglers knew how good Maddocks was back then.

Kevin, was a character, very much a thinker and way ahead of his time, even with bait.
Once a good bait recipe, always a good bait.
But besides the biggest game changes the hair rig being developed by him and Lenny.
Things tackle wise like his ideas on long range ringing, fewer and larger eyes on stiffer Test curve carbon carp blanks, very much standard build now.

Another for Scopex. I seem to remember a John Baker flavour being recommended as a good 'like' for the original Scopex, I'm sure someone will come along weith the name of it...

Must be JB´s Toppex.
I´m guilty of hoarding flavours aswell, but known of the older selection
My bait kitchen is filled with a wide selection of JB´s flavours, Hutchies selection, Catchit Labs, Nutrabaits, and CC Moores
I´m a popup-aholic
Make loads of em, but rarely get to use em

I've tried all sorts of baits over the years, many premium brands... CCMoore, DNA, Mainline, Sticky, Urban etc.
I have my favourites in terms of what smells nice to me personally (e.g. Mainline Cell, Urban Nutcracker - they both remind me of French fishing trips in years gone by) but being honest, I catch 99% of my fish with just four items:
1. Sonubaits Cheese & Garlic oozing hook baits
or
2. Robin Red soft hook baits
or
3. Luncheon meat
...served over a bed of...
4. mixed size standard pellet.
The Sonubaits is my go to bait, but boy do they turn your fingers orange. I think the pots I last bought are about 5 years old.
Just bought a load of fresh frozen CCMoore Pacific Tuna - not not into fishy baits but let's see what they bring over winter.
