Am I the only one that has been patiently anticipating next week and the end of the furlough scheme, so that I stand a chance of getting a swim on one of my waters?!
The number of times that I have booked mid week leave from work, or managed to leave work early, only to find that the banks on a Wednesday are busier than a Sunday! I have worked throughout the whole pandemic(?!), and can't help feeling a little bitter and maybe jealous of all of these COVID full timers, that have nothing better to do with their furlough money than spend it on bait!
Rant over...apologies and sympathies to anyone who has fallen on hard times throughout the coronavirus shambles, but good riddance to those that have ridden the Furlough money train of freedom!

job support scheme replaces furlough though...employees only have to do 20% of their normal hours to attract 66% of their total wages.
granted, theres a little more to the above, but that's the basics of it....if they don't do 20% of contracted hours then they should be made redundant, so may be way more on the banks

Find the issue now is people having their french trips canceled and going down in groups wanting to fish together is cause of bigger issues now.

The problems I've found on the lakes I fish are people who have planned to go France for a week but can't so they been booking up other places, but I do agree I'm looking forward to the winter and hopefully some quieter banks

I've been fortunate enough to fish mid week since 2011, back then it was noticeable how quiet the banks were. In the last 3 or 4 years it seems like everyone's self employed or on shift work and now gets to fish mid week. One club water I was fishing had as many midweekers as weekend angler.
I definitely saw a noticeable difference on the banks with furlough but they've been pretty much back to a normal level since July.

I don't think its gonna get any quieter after furlough. More folks are going to be unemployed so in between finding a new job they're more likely to be popping down for a few hours fishing.
I've noticed up in the NW loads of clubs that have had their doors open to new members for years have shut them this year because they're getting battered with new applications. I'm fortunate to be in a syndicate type club which has always limited numbers so right through all this I've still been able to find a swim on my favourite lakes.

Not sure how many employers will take up the new retention scheme. I think a lot of businesses will just phoenix their businesses and re-open with less staff. 50k Corona loan squirreled away, no redundancy and no more furlough.
All those that have wasted their Furlough money over the past 6 moths on overpriced second hand tackle are in for a rude awakening I fear.
I hope I'm wrong.

Totally agree. The problem being a large amount of the "Great British Public" are pig thick morons who think it is clever to go out on the streets the night before their region moves into Tier 3. Utter scum.

Lockdowns don't cure the virus they just postpone it as we are seeing
!! But seeing as the mortality rate is only 0.05% for anyone under the age of 70 less than seasonal flu & the average age for those who are dying is 82 with an average 2.6 underlying illnesses seems a little drastic to tank the world economy for a few coffindodgers or perhaps that's been the plan all along 🤔

I've also been diagnosed with a heart condition and suffered two bereavements in the family this year. Carp fishing is my only release and if that means I'm in the bank more mid week, so be it. Stop moaning like a little girl., you're in a good position compared to some of us.

Why don´t they bring in compulsory euphenasia for the over 65's /67's, we have done our time paid into the system and wouldn´t need to trouble the NHS with OAP medical completes including Covid or be able to draw pensions which we have contributed to for nearly 50 years, sounds like a great idea!

Oh, and coronavirus being spread through schools and universities.

You try telling someone on furlough that they have to stay indoors, live in your prison cell, that is what a house becomes if you don't go out. You can't rely on television or internet to keep you entertained. Fishing at least gives them some release from boredom.
Think yourself lucky, I'm in the hospitality industry, and have already been made redundant, although taken back on as a Senior bar member.
I was a deputy manager in a hotel, restaurant and bar. We have lost all our functions, our income; no weddings, no wakes, no Christmas parties, no corporate events. That is the owners livelihood, and around 100 staff in the local area. If there are any other anglers than myself then they have a choice, day tickets if they can afford it, or season tickets for clubs.

The thing with masks is quite a lot of people think they wear one to protect themselves. They are not for that, they are to protect others. But because it doesnt protect the individual wearing it that is seen as valid excuse for not wearing one or as an appropriate argument against wearing them. Which it isn't BTW.
Some anglers are now on for round 2 of making the rest of us look like mugs whining about whether they can go fishing or not, I'm alright Jack etc etc etc, essential travel blah blah.
Lack of personal responsibility has to got us all to this stage again, and now the warm summer temps have gone this 2nd wave will be worse.

I would never refer to myself as an expert, i just use respirators on a daily basis. You're correct, for the mask to work efficiently and effectively you need to be face fit tested for that type of mask - but that is for it to work 100%. If you are not face fit tested, it still works, but at a reduced efficiency - This doesn't mean that it is totally ineffective as you refer to in your earlier post.

Makes me laugh hearing the so called angling celebrities' moaning about guys on Furlough and how they can't get swims "rocking" anymore. Unlucky and suck it up, welcome to the real world of the working man that has never had the time before to live in a tent for weeks and umpteen years.
Funny how we now see the lack of celebrities' with trophy shots now they are on an even keel with the average working bloke and all of a sudden it becomes noticeable that time was their biggest advantage, not the bull**** that is wheeled out that they spotted a "bubbler" at 200 wraps and got into the "zone".....
