Now we have the colder months looming,the inevitable 'what winter bag' threads will appear! What i'm curious to know is what winter night anglers prefer as a bag liner...grippy warm to touch fleece or a smooth taffeta/ quilt ? It would appear the big brands stick to what they THINK we want not ACTUALLY prefer. A decent winter bag with smooth inner is as hard to find as rocking horse poo..only exceptions are the Trakker 365 and Fortis ?. I used to have the Old Fox ventec all season which had a choice of fleece or smooth and I still kick myself for getting rid..it was awesome. Managed to pick up a Morpheus 7 a couple of years back but unlike the fox its a dedicated winter bag. Currently using an Avid Thermarest 5.. Great as a summer bag with inners off but with them in.. 
. IMO defeats the object of the design!
Couldn't the manufacturers offer a bag with the choice of liners instead of us having to make do and settle for a compromise.When were paying upwards of £130 for such a bag, shouldn't we have a choice?

I can't stand fleece lined bags, yeah they feel warm straight away but I find the grippy/sticky nature awful to sleep in

I'm using gardner carp duvet for first time tonight after switching from fleece lined sleep system and I think it's much better. The fact there is no fleece lining improves it no end it's just as warm but I can actually move about with out getting snagged up. It was recommend by a few forum users and I think it's good value for £120.

The Gardner carp duvet bag is excellent, very warm, versatile with removable inner, waterproof...
Oh and it has a smooth lining 👍😁
Much prefer this to previous fleece lined bags I had...

Cyprinus magmatex 5 season has a reversible inner section so you get the choice of either. I couldn't personally use fleece lining

I have a trakker 365 (new version) 5 season bag, you can take inside out to make it a 3 season for the warmer months.
One thing I don't understand is people saying the fleece sticks to them when they move around, I have never had that problem not even once and I fill my sleeping bag out I'm not a small chap. I love the fleece lining on mine in the winter

I have always hated fleece lining and all this tosh about it being warmer 
yea it is for the first 30 to 40 seconds after that its the same reflective heat IMHO

I have always preferred a smooth lining, i only got rid of the ridiculously warm trakker pertex bag because it grabbed you in a bear hug.
My bag of choice was the original Sundridge heat control with the inner summer/winter middle piece, but I now need to extend it to cover my ample frame.
I also have a mk2 heat control which is a bigger bag and much more winter friendly but it needs a repair so yet to try it out.

Froze my tits off in my ventec light bag after my ccp cover got soaked somehow, grabbed a gardner bag on the way home. Seems decent, only laid in it for a minute. I hope the loose bit at the foot end doesn't annoy me when I actually use it. I might try and add a bit of velcro or something there

I used the avid benchmark lite the other night with no other cover than the one it comes with, and I was sweating underneath it. Had tracksuits bottoms and a T-shirt on under it.

I had one of these, purely because it had no fleece lining in it, and was probably the best sleeping bag ive had apart from the length of it, without looking, i'm sure they were 2 metres long! it used to hang off the end of my bedchair onto the floor, which was a bit of a pain

Which bag was that? The fox ventec lite is 210cm which is snug on my bedchair (215cm), the gardner duvet compact is 230cm.

The Gardner duvet bag, it's really comfortable and warm, but it just hung on the floor at the end of the bed....just played havoc with my OCD lol!

Just a underwater suit with a tracksuit on top (hoody/bottoms) never had a problem, I have worn my waterproofs to bed before when it's been pissing down so I won't have to rush around putting it on of I got a fish and still was fine

I have got the Chub Vantage 5 Season Sleeping Bag which is smooth on the bottom of the insode of the bag, and fleece on the op of the inside of the bag. Perfect.

Another vote for the Gardner Carp Duvet . . .best all round bag I've used to date hands down. Not sure whether its fully 5 season, but I'll be mostly wearing softshell pants and a micro fleece in it as well as lobbing a cover over the top for good measure. My Nash Sub 20 Wideboy is probably warmer, but 5 times heavier and the fleece sticks to you with every movement . .its also wider which means cold spots in the corners

Hi Theres a winter bag post in the Tackle thread. I mention my bag but its a PITA as the foot end is pretty much open and my feet get caught up in the loose leaves.... As for it being peach skin....it still grips a bit but not as much as fleece lol

I'm guessing one of the GT Carp Duvet Compact bags aint going to fit a Fox Flatliter Compact bed. Don't really want loads of material draping over the edge of the bed.

It's the duvet plus at that I had, and they are nearly 3 metres long with the hood 270cm!!
. They are really comfortable but just waaaaay to long! Not sure why they've done them this long tbh

I have put a Gardner compact on my nash ss3 and it fits fine not sure how that compares to your fox but must be close.

I'm in the same dilemma....i have a flat liner and cannot decide between which one to get....compact or duvet plus.....according to Gardner website the plus is 235mm long including hood and 105mm wide......
The compact is 230mm long x 95mm wide....
It states the compact is suitable for standard size bed chairs....what is the dims of a standard size bed chair.....
Next time i get a spare 5 mins I'm gonna measure my bed chair......
The measurement of the compact cover is massive 250mm long x 155mm wide... i think this will be fine as the normal cover is nearly 2m wide.....

According to the dimensions on the angling direct site, your bed is about the same as my trakker bed, so the compact would be the one. The plus model must be for the oversized beds only, bit silly really
