yesterday I was making rigs up for my france trip pulling knot tight slipped and my size 4 barbed hook was stuck in the side of my hand trip to local hossy local anasetic and hook pulled out

I once had my rod on the ground whilst i was baiting my hook. My mates rod went, he stepped over the rod and set off running towards his rod, he picked the line up with his foot and pulled the hook right down to the bend into my thumb. I went crackers with him and cut the line. Thought i would end up at the hospital, sat there for about 20 minutes pulling and tugging at the hook, painfully manage to get it out. Moral of the story, never lay a rod on the ground whilst you are baiting the hook

Not a hook but I once managed to stick one of the old Gardener baiting needles with the barb on it right into the palm of my hand.
I called a mate to come down to pack up my gear and barrow it back to the car for me then I managed to drive to A & E one handed to have it removed.
Had to explain to everyone at the hospital what it was. Eventually after an X-Ray they decided it wasn't touching any nerves so just froze the area around it and yanked it out.

I pulled a size 2 through my finger while rigging up, on fish, on the first day of a France trip. There was no way I was going to hospital so I just gripped it between my teeth and yanked as hard as I could. Lovely gaping hole in the finger, torn nerves, and to this day (5 years later) I cannot feel a thing with the tip of that finger.
I got a take within the hour so well worth it lol.

Pike fishing on Split lake in Yateley years ago when I was 14 and managed to catch one on New Year's day. The small Jack I caught managed to sink the barbed hook into my finger whilst I was unhooking it and Rob Maylin, who was also on the complex. very kindly took me to hospitality to have it cut out.

tightening up a rig, hook in finger. Not sure if I could have ripped it out myself. Turned my head away and got my missus to rip it out. Never likely to make that mistake again.

The moral of all these tales is use barbless hooks. Simples.
Was fishing with my mate and his brother while my mate was recovering from appendicitis late 80,s. My mate had a take which crossed the second rod in the margins. His brother who didn't know much about carp fishing struck so hard the rig flew out of the water leaving Brian, my mate with the hook in his temple dangling like a bad Christmas decoration. So, he had to go to hospital to get the hook and lead off his head. To add insult to injury, brother then beat my mate's pb on his rods while he was away.

14yrs old I ended up with my baiting needle, latched one, diagonally through the bottom of my thumb. Didn't have anything to cut the latch off with so ended up using my pen knife to cut it out of my thumb. Few plasters and wrapped in tissue and elastic bands I managed to catch two that day 
In hindsight I probably could have just snapped the latch off and pulled it back through easily enough but I was young and not thinking straight.
Hook wise, I've always just pushed it through if I can and cut the barb off or crushed it down as much as possible and pulled the hook back out. Not always possible but I've never had one where I couldn't. You do need a high pain threshold though!

did the old bait needle through the thumb trying to hair rig a hard boilie when I was young, luckily someone on the lake had some cutters so snipped the end and pulled it back through.
A few weeks ago had just unhooked a fish in the middle of the night, it kicked and hook ended up straight in my thumb beyond the barb, cursed a few times pushed down and managed to ease it out easier and less painful than I expected and now just about healed.

Here's the picture, as you can see I ended up with a nasty lump full of blood, so must have burst a vessel in there. It did hurt a bit

I once got a size 4 mugga embedded deep into my finger when rigging up just before dusk. A mate was with me on a guest session so i asked him to try and help pull it out, but he had no joy and it was buried deep in there.
I tried to suck it up and take the pain, but at 1am i decided to go to the local A&E to get it checked out. After an x-ray they said it was actually stuck in the bone so they did a little surgery and cut it out.
I arrived back at the lake to find that my mate had managed to pub chuck and fluke out two of the most saught after carp in there just to add insult to injury

Pushed it through, cut the point and barb off and then pulled it out. Didn't really feel a thing.....until my hand warmed up then it REALLY hurt.
And again a couple of years ago fishing with a mate and a jack pike ran through his lines whilst spawning/pre spawning in the margin. Fish wasn't hooked properly but his line got caught in it's teeth so badly that he actually played it in and landed it. As I was sorting it out on the mat it flipped and pulled the bare hook (size 6) into the palm of my hand. Same process, push it through and cut the point and barb off, then pull it out. Liberal use of hand sanitiser and no need to visit A&E in either case.
In both cases I unhooked myself but wouldn't recommend it for the squeamish.
Moral of the stories? Always make sure you have a decent set of pliers with you.

My missus was out shopping one day and right at the end out the day she felt an itch in her leg inside her jeans by her shin, she scratched it and impaled herself in the finger on a barbed size 8 curve hook to the bone - rig was still attached with lead too (unbelievably) inside the jeans and hook on the outside....... so with blood spewing everywhere, the shop staff cut the rig and she went to hospital to have it removed complete with all the injections.
How it got there is when I finished last session I cut rig off, granny knot the line to eye and pop rig/lead into my pocket. There it stayed until in the wash it all transferred to her jeans.
By huge stroke of luck I was on a stag do in Liverpool when it happened and by the time I was home she was ok (ish) about the whole thing.

Didn't hook the wife but did once hook the dog!
Came back from a very wet fishing session and left everything in the outside shed to dry off, including opening the tackle box and putting the unused bait on a tray to dry off. Anyway Taz, the dog, decided that he wouldn't eat any of the tray full of fishmeals but instead went into the tackle box and picked out a baited rig and woofed that down, then came trotting down the path tail wagging and line sticking out of his mouth!
Trip to the vet, Xray to see the hook and hooklink in his stomach, one operation and £500 vet bill later he was fine. Amazingly the other partner at the vet practice came rushing in with his own dog that had done exactly the same thing while he was sea fishing. Thus proving that fishmeal boilies and lug worm are both good baits for dogs.
Didn't hook the wife but did once hook the dog!

Pinged out of a fish on a short line, side-straining to keep it out of margin trees.
Went in the back of my left arm just above the elbow.
Really awkward to get a grip on it, took about an hour to get out but there was no way I was going home!
Point was completely buried at first but didn't think to photograph it until I'd started trying to work it through and got stuck!
Barbless is normal for me, however some places don't like them so I stick to the rules, Sod's law it had to happen on one of those waters.

Not a hook but a stringer needle under my nail on my left pointy finger.Could see it down the side of my nail where it joins the fleshy bit. First day of 3 so i wasn't going home or hospital. spent the next 60 mins cutting down the side of the nail exposing the flesh bit under the nail. boy was that painful so was doing it little by little. dosed up on Ibruprofen and eventually freed it. wrapped it with electrical tape and carried on. Got home smothered it with germolene and let it harden up. i think it took 4 months for the nail to grow out. that was about 15 years ago and still have stringer needle as a painful memory to concentrate on what you are doing and never try to pierce airdrie boils with a needle.

Not a hook but one of those old Gardner baiting needles with a barb on it, me, my mate and his g/f went down to college lake in cornwall during the old close season, at 2am, my mate managed to get it stuck in his thumb and the only problem is that's he's the only one who can drive, so a 23 mile drive on Cornish roads later he gets the the a&e and it's removed. He said it was bloody agony driving there

Ooooohh, some real horrors there. Think we can be a bit more carefl with hooks. Easy to forget the damage a baiting neele can do. Golf could be safer I guess but wtf who looks good in pink pringle?

Not a hook injury...but a few years ago i was packing up after a few days fishing and taking the none essential items back to the car...and one of the bungees was not hooked properly on the barrow and slipped off and hit me square on the lip...i thought I'd knocked my teeth out... my lip opened up good and proper....i phoned one of my mattes to look after my gear whilst i went to A&E.....whom at first weren't going to stitch my lip back together incase it didn't line up and wanted to send me to a plastic surgeon.....this was a few moths before my wedding....i sent the missus photos whilst i was in A&E and i got a call...sympathy not a chance all i got was “what's the wedding photos gonna look like”..luckily enough they stitched me up good and all i have is a faint white scar on my lip

when I was 13 my pal and I were spinning for pike
these were the days when pike care wasnt about we used a pike gag and a Gaff as was the norm back in the day well my mate cast his plug into the tree above us not wanting to lose it he climbed up the tree to rescue it but he couldnt quite reach it Gerry chuck me up the gaff I will be able to get it but dont throw it hook bit first

this did not go according to plan the gaff went straight thru my ring finger and the middle finger
