I've just been switching from a transitional holdall to a quiver and amongst other bits and pieces, I've offloaded, 6x fairly heavy NGT banksticks - I think I only used them once? I'm more into my pods, I think I got the sticks cheap at a show once. Plus, I generally fish waters with rock solid banks so sticks aren't always an option!
Anyway, I think I should still keep a couple, well, 4x probably in my bag for emergencies. I'm actually fishing a water this week, where I know I'll need at least one rod off the pod and pointing to the snag I 'll be fishing too... I probably won't have anything new by then so I'll have to take a couple of the NGT's
So, recommendations? Must be light/short etc. I think Cygnet do some nice stuff?

I have got six wychwood 8" extending titanium sticks but they are too short for me.
I'd love some 12" ones but rare like unicorn spleen extract.
I bought some cheap alloy 12" extending ones and they are fine.

I've recently switched from heavy stainless steel sticks to the avid lok down sticks. I've only used them once since I purchased them but first impressions are good. Nice and lightweight and the locking mechanism keeps the stick from spinning sometimes like I had on the steel screw up ones.
The only downfall for me is that they're black and after putting them in the ground a few times they will scratch the paint off but that's just me being nit picky 😄

Why dont you just keep the ones you've got in the boot of the car and only carry them when you need them?

an option is defiant titanium banksticks, very strong and a lot lighter than stainless

I have two Cygnet 16inch sticks. Well made, strong and cheap
If your looking for something special and bullet proof then Keith's titanium as mentioned

Is the use of titanium, carbon fibre and stainless steel a case of overkill, both in engineering and price. Don't think I have ever spent more than £12/£15 quid on a bank/storm stick and often a fair bit less. Cheap, light alloy banks sticks have always worked fine for me and I have some in my gear that must be 20/30years old. They are sticks to rest your rod on that you have to carry.

Depends on how you treat your gear (pretty badly in my case). Cheapo alloy sticks don't last 5 mins for me.
The hard anodised ali stuff is up to the job.
Carbon is decent but I never quite got on with it despite trying a couple of different options.
Titanium is top of the tree imo.
Stainless is too heavy.

I got to be honest, and say I'm not as impressed with the jag black as I thought or heard,
I change over to them earlier last year
After the other bank sticks I was using kept bending and the top section kept coming lose,
The cygnet 20-20, I've been using them a while now, but the quality as definitely gone down hill
And having to keep buying the odd stick, realised it's costing me,
So I ended up getting the jag black,
And on a single bankstick with a 3 rod buzz bar, it does twist,
so I now use them goal post style,
But I've just got some summit black premier back stick in a sale, and no twist what so ever,
Probably due to the inner stick having a flat side, so when tightened up, no twist at all,
Shame I can't get my original carbon backsticks, as I had the for years, with no issues what so ever
not twisting, nothing,
So not so impressed with the jags as I was expecting,

I remember when i wanted some storm sticks for my mhr brolly system. Danson angling tried to sell me some Nash stainless storm sticks. They weighed more than the brolly. I said the whole point of buying the brolly was to save weight. Ended up buying Fox aluminium ones. Some situations just don't need the strength of stainless steel.

I think the increase in weight is negligible when you look at the quality.
Original Solar banksticks will still be on sale in another ten years time (theres a reason some of the older stuff commands a hefty price in fleabay)
As for the likes of Fox Black Label & Nash KNX it just doesn't last due to the awful plastic fittings.

Watched an instagram video of the new fox pod this morning. Needed eye bleach afterwards. My god thats one ugly mother. I know you shouldn't pick form over function, but that looks like the only pen the draftsman had was a bingo dabber

i def do not recommended the cygnet 20/20 range, had nothing but issue with the set I have bought, I have all 3 sizes and the thread's are constantly getting stuck and i end up losing the screw nob which is really annoying.
Plus I have also managed to bend one taking it out the ground without a huge amount of force
Also I have taken the paint of a couple on the inserts as the screw has got stuck and to get the insert out had to use force which has then scrape the paint off.
For someone who uses 6 single sticks I have never really found a set of banksticks at a decent price.
Currently using x 3 trakker storm poles for the front 3 and then the cygents at the back, the trakker poles have been great but are quite heavy

Which I think kinda proves the whole thing about you get what you pay for. I bet you'd have to search quite a bit to find anyone on here reporting the kind of issues you've had whilst using Jag, Defiant, Solar, Dymag etc. All expensive but I doubt they'd bend in normal operation or fall apart.
For someone who uses 6 single sticks I have never really found a set of banksticks at a decent price.

I do similar i use 36" fox storm poles for the front, so much easier pushing into soft clay than the hard bank and jag sticks at the back.
I sometimes don't bother with the back sticks, just use a matrix pile driver to pin the rod butts down.

Fox Euro . . .light, strong, black . . .decent cam lock. In standard or powerpoint - mine have lasted decades - bullet proof

i have got a mix of Tbar and sniper cygnet banksticks which i brought 2nd hand and they have been doing the rounds for the last 5 yrs
they are starting to suffer (keep having to reglue the tops back to the ali body)
look scruffy as hell but do the job
out of interest are the original gardner ali sticks any more resistant to the tops coming loose as they are a brass fitting?
