hes as good as terry hearn at at storys, if not better?, everybody loves terrys just bcos its terry, he cant do no wrong,they are great , but lanes are different and capture the whole goings on ,good and bad, imo

The first few minutes of part 4 says it all for me about how carp fishing was back then. Non of this over hyped bollox thats around at the moment. It's fishing ffs.

I think we all paid Dave Lane's wages for the majority of his carping ‘career'. Seems fairly content at being a sponge in his early books, a reason I've never really taken to him despite his obvious ability.

In the early days he became an artexer via Maggie Thatcher's Enterprise Allowance Scheme in the 80's, he talks about it in one of the vids, worked as little as possible, enough to fund his fishing

No different to many incl Hearn. He admits to scavenging everyone's left overs ect. Peck admits thinks like phoning in sick ect all depends how much you want it and what youl do for it I guess

loving them, even the horton stuff which for me is quite something, never liked reading about horton in the old days, there was just no mystery to it and all it seemed to me were people just chasing weights in a square hole in the ground.
but whats coming next is another matter completely, oh my god, i cannot wait till he gets going on wraysbury.
i think we will all have to pester him on all media after he's done with wraysbury to get him to do the BM and sonning as i dont think he will do them as he's still selling that book

These videos have been one of the best I have seen in a long time. I have spent the last two seasons on Church lake so for me the viewing has been fascinating, especially seeing the lake as it was back then which is very bland and less mature. Wonderful stuff by Mr Lane

100% Chuffy. I read the book before joining and have a copy at home, in some ways reading the book was very much a motivation towards joining the place.
What is very good is having read the book then seeing the footage from 92/93 really brings a lot of the stories to life. As below I have thoroughly enjoyed watching them, really looking forward to the Wraysbury chapters up next.

been some great lines... loved the bit about being employed by others before he eventually turned self employed... especially when your fully on the carp fishing.... "they just didn't get it, if the pressure dropped or the wind turned to a westerly... I wasn't going to be turning up for work.... I got it, my mates got it... but they just didn't get it!" hahah... can relate to this when conditions are bang on and im stuck in the office thinking of the excuses to pull a sick day....

I watched episode 17 or 18 last night, it has kept me entertained throughout the lockdown with an hourish or so of content nearly every other day I thank him for his efforts, I bought Obsession With Carp in 1998 when it was first issued and it was an excellent read I don't know why but never bought the other two until last week glad I did now as I think it was the one I watched last night where he said the Flick of the tail stocks are dwindling thats not to say they may not do a reprint but it could be as difficult to get as his original in years to come, I thanked him for his efforts by hitting the Buy Dave a pint tab on his website, 45 quid all in for two books and hours of entertainment documented in a period of unprecedented boredom deserves applause.
