Goning back to the days of the old closed season March to June.
I thought it may be nice for some of us older guys to pass on some tips to help people through this.
Ok I'll start. Clean sort tidy all you kit inc service reels and any repair work.

They were exciting times that's for sure. I think it was the fact that you could not go that made it like a drug, you just could not wait for your fix
Getting all your kit ready, playing around with bait, walking round the target water prior to fishing it, up at dawn to get the best spots, oh happy days, magical really
Clean your rods and reels down properly. I have in that past put car wax on them lol
Roll bait or hook baits
Tie a couple of rigs a day up until you have a few months worth

Roll bait was a big one m8 nowdays most of us dont! Unfortunately the main thing of baiting up and looking for new waters is off the agenda now too. Just cleared out my pond and filter and must admit i did have a cheeky sweep of the net....totaly absorbed for a few hours before my mind returned to our current situation.

We can still find new venues enough to be going with on the net. Stories reports even maps with gravel bars sand banks and silt patches for some venues.

I've started clearing my tackle shed. So far I have recovered all the sections of my baiting pole and found a box of clear acrylic leads. What was the latter about, I don't remember falling for that?

I did all those jobs last year ready for the Winter campaign, then the lakes flooded so that didn't happen, haven't fished since November 
still have the traditional close season on my water and long may it continue ........what a buzz when the 16th comes round

Used to go to Lakes in the closed season to learn about carp behaviour. Totally useless come June 16th as they behaved totally differently under pressure

I remember watching an old boy chucking stones into the water from up a tree, it took me an embarrassingly long time to realise he was trying to find the spots the fish bolt too. He had an epic first night and wasn't seen again

Sounds like that may well have been the burghfeild ninja, you are honoured as to many he is only a myth and most don't believe he even exists.

I have moved to Slovakia , and they still have a closed season from March 15 till the 1st of June and that's on lakes also. Except for a handful of private lakes that are not natural. Weird old rules out here even certain parts of some rivers are still fished . I put it down to that they are allowed to take certain amount of carp For eating and that's to give them a chance. So there isn't much change for me at the moment as wouldn't be doing too much bank time. The only thing is I can't cross borders and was expecting to go to Hungary or Czech for some sessions. There is an added sense of anticipation of looking forward to an open season and takes me back to my childhood when I was dreaming of getting back on the banks on the rivers. Now its just back to reading books , and with the joys of the internet watching some videos . It does feel like your freedom of fishing has been taken away from you . But what we have taken for granted will only make that first day back on the bank will give that big sense of excitement. At least I have an excuse for blanking now.
