I will be fishing a very large gravel pit that has an abundance of weed and mussels. Anyone recommend a line for these conditions , currently I use Subline.

Fluorocarbon is reasonably tough, the rest is just marketing spiel, "The latest, greatest blah blah blah" . It will be a pain to cast with. Maxima is fat, soft and not bad but a bit of a compromise, Sensor is similar but I'd use a decent strong line like Technium and use a long leader.

Gr60 mate, in 18lb. Or the korda carp line in 20lb is decent too. Stay away from cm90, mussels cut it like butter

I would have gone for power pro but it's about 180£ per spool (1000yds).

Are leaders allowed as well?

My reservoir has concrete blocks, metal drainpipes and pilings on the bottom. I use 15lb Gardner Pro in light or dark with a 30lb Amnesia Leader and run rings or helicopter set-ups so in the event of a snap off the fish can get rid of everything.

Lost 2 fish last season, both to snapped mono hooklinks, but landed others that had fragged the leader.

@Yonny has seen the pics of one of my shredded leaders after landing a fish.

If you can't use leaders, I would still be comfortable using just Gardner Pro in 15lb.

Good for you, I had no end of problems with it, switched back to Gr60 mid session and problem solved. That's the best I've used, and I've used a hell of a lot

What problems did you have? I am looking at this line as my club have put a minimum line diameter of 0.4mm in the rules.

It shredded like cotton, got cut off using it 5 times and had to strip a load off a few more times after fish, once swapped back to Gr60 had no more issues even though could still feel the grating on the mussels. A real shame as it was lovely line otherwise

Correct I've used it for snag fishing in France in 20lb , I've even had mussels clamp to the line and it's been ok

What breaking strain do you use in the GR60.

For general angling 12 or 15, but for anything where there's snags etc then 18lb, it's bombproof stuff

Looked on the Gardner website says gr60 only goes up to 15lbs.?

Just had a look and nobody has it in stock, looks like they've stopped doing it. Ffs I'm glad I got some when I did but when that needs changing I will be on the look out. The korda carp line in 20lb is a decent alternative, although I've spooled my cat reels with some asso hard skin which looks very promising although I haven't used it yet

There's been some good recommendations already, but don't forget good old daiwa sensor. I've used it in 20lb fishing weedy waters and it handled it perfectly. Cheap and cheerful but more than up to the job.

That's my back up line 20lb sensor top draw always handy to have a spool knocking around
