Hi guys thinkin of try baitworks this year especially with the sale that's on but not sure about it anyone use it on here which one they like??which do they not and why?? They have been round a while so must be ok as they passed the test of time. I was using nash to good avail but they have stopping doing the one I used and I have to order a 100k roll if I want to keep using it so fancy having a change what you guys think.

Cracking company and products IMHO.
Have been an Atlantic Heat user for some time now. Gave the Monster Red a go on a runs water but less convinced about that one, and whilst I am sure their other baits work perfectly well, when you are on something that you have confidence in there is no reason to change.
Had a couple of fish on some of the original Scent From Hells (when they were just 'specials'), but the newer version I have been less successful on, definitely smells like a recipe change, that only to my nose and obviously the effect that has on the carp I have no idea, but less confident in them now.
Never had a problem with any order, always been very easy to contact, mostly via social media for myself, so have nothing bad to say regarding their service in any way.
From memory I believe Simon Scott was an avid Atlantic Heat user, even during the Korda filming when it was geared more towards Mainline, and whilst I wouldn't base using a company on his say so I do have the utmost respect for his knowledge in the world of carp feeding/breeding.

It's a company I really want to like. Have used their Atlantic Heat for a year or so a couple years ago, ordered a bit myself and had parts of bulk orders from mates.
One thing that put me off is that one batch of Atlantic Heat I purchased was very different to another and after that point I lost a bit of faith. I know there is seasonal variation etc but consistency to me is important.
The current scent from hells are quite different to the baits from a few years ago and the oils and liquids seemed to me to contain a lot more bits and bobs in the past.

Never used RM, that is their newest bait as far as I am aware, catch reports seem good but I'm not one for changing all the while AH is around.
Monster Red was very garlicky IIRC, and just didn't hit it off for me. AH is a spicy fishmeal, broken up it just looks a quality bait with good ingredients, and it continues to catch me fish so have never changed since I got on it, obviously sometimes have varying hookbaits, i.e. use different pop-ups/wafters but on the whole AH is part of my make up wherever I am.
Agree what Tom has said though, there does seem to be a variance at times (usually minimal), but it never seems like the quality is compromised.

I changed from DNA S7 to Atlantic Heat when S7 got difficult to get . It clearly is a decent fishmeal, but the fishes reaction when watched in the margin was far more positive to the S7 than the AH. Think I'll stick with S7 in the future,

Couldn't buy a bite on AH or scent from hells a few years back.. blanked for 10mths changed baits and caught instantly. Could have been other factors at play but didn't fill me with confidence

Honestly the best bait firm i have used,
I was persuaded to switch by the comments on hear and i have not looked back, i can not remember the last season i did not catch at least one or two cracking carp. i use pretty much all the range of boilies but atlantic heat has been my favorite and the scent from hell pop ups have caught me countless fish at this point. I find the baits are always high quality and also the glugs and powders etc are second to none. Sadly you just missed the black friday and new yer 20 percent off offer, i just ordered a shed load.

Alantic Heat and Royal Marine, are excellent baits however Monster Red has been poor for me, might be the waters I fish, who knows.
The Original Scent From Hells were excellent, however not particularly taken with the newer harder, less buoyant versions. I will say I seem to do better on the Scent from Heavens, and recenrltly had a couple on the Sea Monsters. I do seem to have to drill the pop-ups out and insert cork to keep them up over longer periods.
Overall I don't think you'll find many companies that are any better.
I rolled my own bait for many years but lost interest in it, Baitworks and DT are the 2 companies I have confidence in since I stopped rolling.

£7kg at the factory. Slot around the waterpark are on the stuff. I use all 3, at the same time. I put in a big bucket. Half chopped, half hole 15mm. Couple bottles of the AH glut over them plus a few other bits, and I just leave it all to soak in. Ends up as if coated in marmite.
I fish a different bait over top and have been doing enough fish to keep me happy.
I like their scent from heaven this time of year as well

My poor misses doesnt complain but it smells the house out for ages and even makes your gear smell!? The frozen bait is ok, no better than a lot of others not as good as the Essential products.
Steer well clear of Baitworks pop's and waffters, truly shocking.
The flouros are no better than average, Scent From Hell may or may not work on your water, you pays your money you takes your chance.
The liquids can be bought elsewhere cheaper, the powders read well but you'll never know if they make a difference.
Don't ever buy the bait outside the Christmas/New Year promo's because that;s the price all bait should be and it isn't worth paying much more for, if you want to pay more buy B5.

Each to their own, but I think the frozen bait is top notch. It's the bait which I choose to use and I have no loyalty or connection with any bait firm....I am also quality not cost driven,
B5 is a good bait as well, don't get me wrong, but I don't see many using it nowadays.....many seem to have gone on to baitworks.
The cork dust pop ups are gash though!

I didnt say the frozen bait was bad, i'm quality not cost driven that's why Baitworks is in my freezer. Is it as good as Essential ? No its not but there's very little in it. give it time though.
What you need to remember is B5 gained it's reputation before the Facebook age, no bull**** YouTube vid's or product placement on a Korda tv show, B5 is based solely on fish in the net. looking at what Baitworks has done I'd say they took Essential as their template, funny how AH is very close to B5 in design
Id happily use either .

Used both before I was even on Facebook, found B5 to be a mediocre bait, went onto Atlantic Heat and it was all guns blazing, had a season on Royal Marine which was great, but missed the smell of AH so back on there. I know where my boilies are being bought from.
Agree with the comments around wafters and pop ups and use ones from different firms.

I mean the content is a high majority of cork dust, and the boilie is almost a binder. By all means give them a go yourself, if you're ordering bait anyway, the pop ups are only a fiver. Be aware, the photo on the website is of the old pop ups. I love baitworks and have been using them a long time, mainly AH, but have tried the range. I used to be a huge fan of the AH cork dust pop ups, which caught me PB mirror and common from two very difficult and low stock venues. I would love to see baitworks rolling back on the original recipe again. I understand there may be some changes around use of a certain red colour, but the consistency and ability to retain flavour has changed massively. I am not slating baitworks in any way at all, and will likely continue to use their freezer bait, however I'm still looking for a quality pop up. I've attached some photos, the original is the red, smooth bait, and the newer coarse, brown bait with a high quantity of cork. I have no doubt they're ok on commercial waters etc, but I can't afford to be questioning my hookbaits.

Joe. You seem to think like me, that the hookbait is the single most important bait that you use. I'm fishing a low stock pit and after going through loads of manufacturers of pop ups that I simply didn't like. For the last couple of years I've been making my own and I'm so much happier. I know exactly what's in them and what amounts. I can have any combination of colours or buoyancy etc etc. Plus it takes an hour to do a one egg mix and you get tubs and tubs of them. With some really great help from a few guys on here I've even managed to get them to the exact hardness I like. Have you considered going down this route as well? I get all my ingredients from BAF.

no good making the perfect boilie a complete food source for carp and ignoring the hookbait!
id be more confident casting a single bait coloured well and made with top attractors that fishing a garbage hookbait over top notch boilies.

Agree with all of the below comments. I've got great confidence in the freezer bait, and know it's good quality, but there is no point in the hookbait being the least attractive item out there. I like to get my rods on the spot and leave them for the majority of the session. I'm very pleased to hear I'm not the only one who thinks they appear to be rubbish!
Rolling my own - I have considered it and any tips would be appreciated. I need to have 100% confidence my hookbaits are booming on the spot.
Speaking to baitworks - Yes I have, I was rather miffed last year, I ordered 20kg and 3 pots of pop ups, dissatisfied doesn't come close. They were good and came back with a free bottle of booster, but again, the pop ups just don't have the ability to take on any long term smells, or curing. I would love BW to go back to their original recipe, but I can't see that happening as they appear to be OK with what they're sending out now. I actually sold all of the pots on eBay as I will not be using them. I did send BW the comparative photo, but they just said it was to improve buoyancy.

I will do my best. I'm not a bait expert by any means, but I know what I like in a bait and I catch fish on what I roll, so to some extent they must be ok. I'm sure if one of the proper experts on here saw what I put I'm they'd tell me there's too much of one thing, or not enough of another, or I'm wasting money by using two things that do the same job etc. I'm not that clued up enough to know. But I'm happy to try to answer any questions you have from my basic experience and I'm sure the more knowledgeable guys will chip in anyway.
Should have added I only make hookbaits these days.

I need to do some corks myself, are you using the matching basemix for your food bait or using something else?
Watching a trap in the margins the other day the food baits were crawling with naturals after ten minutes and the low pop up stood out like a sore thumb as it wasn't covered in snails etc

If I make match the hatch type hookbaits then I tend to use either a dedicated hookbait kit, or boilie basemix which I add a bit of extra attractors to, I then make cork balls using the CC Moores ball maker machine as you basically can't get it wrong.
For my fluro hookbaits I tend to add a lot more additions to the BAF mix as I think you can get away with it. Cos it's not a thin skin like on a cork ball.
I've tried with cork dust in the past but the results were hit and miss at best.

Try something like:
70g BAF pop up mix
10g Egg Albumin
10g Whey Gel HG80
5g Paprika
5g Chilli powder
1ml Paprika Oleoresin
1ml Black Pepper Essential Oil
5ml Shellfish Sense Appeal.
This should get you quite close to original Atlantic Heat, (minus fishmeals) . As Wayne says, the BAF mix is excellent.

Yep, follow the vid and you won't go far wrong. Remember to soak the cork balls in egg white first, makes them easier to roll and hardens your the baits nicely.

Any ideas on what to use throughout the winter as a hookbait fished over pellet?

From baitworks, or just in general?
First of all I'd make sure any pellet I used were low oil content. To be honest I always just use bright over flavoured pop ups in winter fished as a single. Unless it's a very busy well stocked lake then I think you've only ever trying to nick a bite. With cold water temperatures slowing the leak off and reduced light levels, I favour an in your face bait.
