I've been down that road and my conclusion is this idea of mixing baits is put out by the industry to try to encourage people to buy more bait just my opinion. I even see bait companies saying these particular two baits work well mixed together.. Sorry im not buying it.

My angling definitely improved when i decided to have one go to bait, carry a lot less hookbait varieties and just taking them decisions away from me and concentrating solely on putting what i am using in the right place. I think its a sign of inexperience and a lack of confidence in your approach using lots of different baits and only confuses the angler rather than the fish.

Probably should have said that the 80% bait is always a quality food bait and the 20% bait usually a poorer nutritional bait but with higher flavour levels. If I've got the food bait right they will start to search it out.
Having said that this year both baits are food baits but it's a bit early to say how this is working out.

Over the last three years I've changed baits several times using single flavours and mixtures and I've caught when I've been on them and haven't when I've not.

I've settled on one bait for the rest of 2026 from a small local bait company who have been around for quite a few years.

The roller is a great guy and very knowledgeable (his advice has caught me fish) so I'll continue to spend my money with him rather than give it to one of the big boys as a faceless online transaction.

So these three years has confirmed to me that there is no wonder bait, in fact bait doesn't matter if they aren't in front you and you don't have a half decent rig so focus on those two elements of your fishing more than bait

Interesting read this. Do you think if you upped the 20% to nearer 50% the bites would become even?

I often mix my baits. Using roughly 80% of the main bait and 20%of an alternative. I experiment with various hookbaits, including combining both, but usually over time the main bait starts to dominate takes, which I would expect. But there will always be surprises.

I've always used Krill & Manilla mixed together with a dose of Tigers thrown in the mix. never done me any harm keeping the items whole or very large chops means I can use the mix with either bottom bait or popup over the top too

I’ve been using ABS baits for a very long time now and have no need to look elsewhere. Generally I tend to use the Hydra K/Rock Lobster & MC Nut.

I always usually fish 2 rods over the fishmeal and one on the nut (on a different spot) or the other way round and this got me thinking….

Would it be a good or bad thing to mix the feed baits 50/50 giving me a large spread of boilies of two different flavour profiles and loads of hookbait options? By that I mean fishmeal hard hooker with a nut type pop up on a snowman etc.

I tend to use all the same size to be accurate-ish with the throwing stick. Just interested to know if anyone has found an improvement in catch rates by combining boilie flavours.
