They sell beef liver powder and a pharma grade beef liver-mino type liquid.
I remember buying something similar years ago, can't remember the exact name.
But otherwise AA are down to chicken liver products. CHX powder and hydro.

I believe AA’s liquid liver is of beef origin, unless you were talking about a powdered hydro they do, in which case I apologise 😁

When I rolled my own I dropped any notion of comparing prices from the start. If you add your labour it's incomparable, you can't compete with scale so there's no point.

As mentioned, for me it was about the satisfaction. Before selling my stuff I did consider it again but the price of eggs or dried alone put me off seeing as we dont keep chickens anymore 🙁

Was thinking the same tbh, quite a few used Malarkey on my old syndicate but then it was £5/kg or less and collectively application was high.
iirc there were a few baits loosely based around the same 'original' mix?

And yes, home rolling your own recipes is part of the satisfaction, mine is about £5/kg rolled, some extravagance with more expensive ingredients but at a useable price.

Nothing wrong with Malarky, friend did really well on it about 15 years ago. However to some making your own bait is a hobby in itself (nothing wrong with that) and then catching on your own bait is another step forward in the enjoyment of fishing 😎

Also for £8 a kilo a home roller can make something really different (and probably better but depends on how you define better) to everyone else which can be a big advantage on some lakes 😀

Maybe something like this?

10% Pre-digested fishmeal
30% LT94
20% Semo
20% CLO
10% Vitamealo or skimmed milk powder
5% Robin Red

Add 20ml Salmon Oil and 3ml of your favourite flavour per pound of base mix

Could do away completely with the Robin Red (not what it used to be) and customise it as you wish.

Well done , iit makes a session special when you catch a few on the first outing with a new bait , definitely a good starting mix
I believe AA's hydro is chicken liver?
It' alway was stinkier than pork..

CLO/egg biscuit can come up a tad dry or lead to more porous bait,
Often just doesn't absorb as much liquid as you think.. then dries up and contracts before you can get the sausages on the table.
to be honest my cereal binders (well the whole recipe) is complicated,
12. 5% yellow egg biscuit, deli nature not a bait company copy full of brown rusk.
10% semo
8% soya
7% eack of maize flour, meal and SG60..
which by the way absolutely hums, not just that wet milled maize smell.
But it doesn't seem to affect the catching.

Re the Scopex, I find with most flavours you get so nose blind when rolling, that inevitably you end up a bit underwhelmed by the smell after boiling it. I guarantee if you leave it air drying and pop out for a few hours, the second you open the front door and walk back inside, it will hit you like a sledgehammer!

Good shout about the oyster shell wrecking rolling tables, I’d forgotten about that but is very true. Fortunately I stopped adding it to my bait before mine got torn to shreds!

6 egg mix and added base mix till consistency felt right as didn't want to with a sticky mix and nothing left to add to it lol. Ended up taking a touch over 600g of base mix.

Got no reasoning for the liver hydro other than I used it previously and done well....this seems a lot stinkier than I remember tho

Everything been bought from aa baits and tbh after drying the scopex does seem a bit more noticeable

Wheatgerm added as someone mentioned 25% clo might not roll well and I didn't wanna add too much extra soya and semo. Will try swapping it out for the SG60

Just about to pack up from a a little 4 hour session. Lost 2 (cos im crap and fished too close to snags) and landed a 16lber so I'd say it's deffo working

Boiled for only 75secs as only doing short sessions. Got a few in a bucket testing breakdown but will probably end up boiling slightly longer for pre baiting

A six egg mix? 300g+ liquids either a very sticky 1000g mix or a very dry 500g mix.
Or adding base until it stops sticking to everything and rolls well.
Trust me I've been there a few times
But then if it rolls really well and doesn't fall off the hair once in the water the job is 90% done.

I don't get the whole 'crunch' thing, unless the bait is bone dry and remains so then there is no crunch ie like a shell. ingredients absorb water and otherwise become soft.
Oystershell wrecks your tables and tbh I think the inclusion is more to do with adding cheap weight to balance lighter ingredients and increased baiting range.
Again maize products for weight- flour for density, maize meal/supergold for texture.
Carp like maize.

AA Baits kelp is a fine meal..rather pleased that it was because larger lumps can expand and split the bait. Again 'crunchy' when dry but still absorbs water.

Still don't see the point of liquid liver and 50g of powdered liver, virtually the same product but for different commercial production methods.
Just that you are paying for water.

I experimented with available liver powders, from 30g/kg to 80g/kg- actually ended up buying as much of the cheapest 'on sale' pork liver from AA before it went out of stock.
Smells like chocolate in the bag, prominent but very smooth in bait.

80g/kg for hookbaits and stringers only, 30-40 /kg for label/flavour (and cost) effectiveness..less can be more.
Very little need for flavour, a hint of maple/fenugreek

But personally I feel higher than 30g/kg in prebait/loose feed is going to go rancid in summer water temps after 24/36 hours, not friendly with silt.
Similar thoughts on wheatgerm, not saying that it doesn't have it's nutrient values but wheatgerm oils are prone to temperature sensitivity iirc old recipes used 1/2oz (3%) per pound. Similar floaty properties to krill.

Is that a 500g or a 1kg mix?
I’m guessing 500g, going by the liquid food levels.
If that’s the case, I don’t think I’d want to go much over 3ml Scopex per 500g personally. Guess it depends which Scopex it is and how much it washes out during the boiling process.

Think I’d also be trying to get some texture in there, like you say, drop the semo/soya down to 10% and get some crunchy kelp in there. I’d maybe even try and shoehorn some oyster shell grit in there for crunch and a bit of extra weight? Can you drop the wheat germ to facilitate that, or will it stop it rolling nicely?

Thanks for all your feedback, I ended up doing:

25% LT94
10% squidmeal
5% liver powder
10% lamlac
15% CLO
12.5% soya
12.5 semo
5% wheatgerm
5% beta yeast

Done a 6 egg mix with

25ml liver
3ml scopex

Rolled a dream although prefer it to have a little more texture/crunce. Think next time I'll add either some help meal or supergold 60, in ppace of some of the soya and semo. Also the scopex isn't really noticeable at that level so will double it for 1 batch and drop it for another that will have garlic and fenugreek added to it aswell
